Is it too soon to start a 1st March (secondary school allocation day) support thread?

DD has six good options on her CAF - we will be happy if she gets any of those six but there are no other local schools we would be happy for her to be allocated/offered Shock - and private schooling is not an option.

So just a bit nervous and already counting down the days until we find out which school she's been allocated (if at all).

No popcorn but i have wine and crisps.
I'm confident of getting the school that we want but I'm having last minute wobbles because we are low on the list of priorities - it's our catchment area school and DS2 is at a feeder school but DS1 will have left and they don't have social and medical reasons as criteria even though you are allowed to select them on the CAF.

MrGrumpy01 · 28/02/2017 18:42

I'm not staying up. There is no guarantee it will be there at midnight and my anti-d tends to wipe me out anyway.

Edna1969 · 28/02/2017 19:38

@JustEatYourDinner thanks I now have classic Europe rock running around my brain!

Less than 24 hours to go now. I'm definately not waiting up till midnight as Herts won't send the emails / update the system until the afternoon. I believe that at least half this thread expect to find out later in the day. I guess if every council released allocations at the same time there's a risk parents would break the internet. And yes have just checked that I can log on. Sadly no mistakes in Herts so no allocation info there yet.

Definately will accept even if its not our choice. I'd hate to be without any school for DD.

Good luck everyone.

MrGrumpy01 · 28/02/2017 20:01

I'm sure for the primary space you automatically accepted the place unless you declined it.

I will fully read the email tomorrow so I know what I have to do.

Trb17 · 28/02/2017 20:03

I think acceptances vary by area. Here it's assumed you accept what you're given, unless you say otherwise. No actual formal acceptance is required. Well at least it hasn't been in previous years but I'll be extra certain to check.

Changebagsandgladrags · 28/02/2017 20:15

Oh well, no waiting up here. The North Yorks login page is down until 9am

Edna1969 · 28/02/2017 20:15

Here you have to actually accept the place or get reminders!

Not sure why or what benefit this is for anyone unless the council is hoping for people to decline and so reduce their problems.

MrGrumpy01 · 28/02/2017 20:36

Trb that does sound like our area. I am sure I had a panic last year when I read on mn about people worrying about accepting places and I knew I hadn't accepted it. I just didn't decline it.

I must have done right as she was there today.

atheistmantis · 28/02/2017 20:38

The local page has changed to say we have to reply by March 15th, presumably after that they process the appeals.

Acornantics · 28/02/2017 20:45

buttercup apparently Lancs primary schools admissions was live at midnight last year, so it may...or may not...be the same for high schools this year. I'm not sure if they automate it, or if someone has to press go, in which case it'll be office hours I guess. They're also sending emails but again, not sure what time they will get through.

Buttercupsandaisies · 28/02/2017 20:54

Thanks - I messaged them earlier in the end asking if it was worth waiting up - they said they can't guarantee midnight (but didn't say no!) so I'm gonna wait up anyway! I wouldn't normally go to bed much earlier so I may as well!

MrGrumpy01 · 28/02/2017 21:00

change that's annoying, especially as those applying from out of area could find out that they have a place at a N.Yorks school before those actually living in the area.

ILovePandas · 28/02/2017 21:19

Awaiting school place for DS tomorrow. Just been and checked website just in case like a few others on here! Fingers crossed but already have DD in year 8 at first choice school so hopefully should be ok.
Good luck all

Changebagsandgladrags · 28/02/2017 21:37

Ah, on more careful reading it says 'by 9am' so it could be midnight or any time in between

whatonaschoolnight · 28/02/2017 21:40

Hi all, this is the first time I have done this and have no idea which website I need to go on to check. Is there a main one or is it local council one?

MrGrumpy01 · 28/02/2017 21:47

what It will be through your council website, but I guess they will all have it is slightly different places, ours is in Schools and Education, then online admissions and I can log in using the details that I used when making the application.

Alternatively you may just receive an email. I did when I did the primary application last year.

Edna1969 · 28/02/2017 21:48

@whatonaschoolnight in Herts its the website where you apply and is county specific. I imagine every council has their own website?

@Changebagsandgladrags I'd get some sleep then. You might need your energy to deal with admissions later in the day.

JustEatYourDinner · 28/02/2017 22:10
MrGrumpy01 · 28/02/2017 22:15

I'm just pleased it is this year and not last year, they had to wait a whole extra day.

damnedgrubble · 28/02/2017 22:30
SoulAccount · 28/02/2017 22:53

whatonaschoolnight Did you apply online? You check your log in on the same council website you applied through. But they will send you an email, too.

SquidgeyMidgey · 28/02/2017 23:01

Justeatyourdinner that about sums it up. I didn't know the emails sometimes go at midnight, I'm now in a quandary about staying up... but I have to work tomorrow and knowing my luck I'll end up on a loop of 'Just another 5 mins then bed' then the emails won't go till morning! Anyone know when Warwickshire sends theirs out?

damnedgrubble · 28/02/2017 23:06

Not in Warwickshire but last time we saw the offer on the website at midnight but the email didn't arrive until some time the next morning.

Ds has explained tonight that he doesn't mind because he has friends who have put the same three schools as him so he will have a friend wherever he goes, he's still very keen to go to the school ds1 goes to though, of course.
