Mocks this week, and the reality of AS exams in a few months is starting to hit home. I don't think it will be an easy journey, so would welcome some company.

I just can't believe how long we have to wait for the results now!
DD has gone off to her friends for the night for a BBQ.
I have told her she needs to look at open days and prospectus' on Sunday and get herself organised before A2 lessons start on Monday. She is having a dilemma over which subject she may drop in September - at the moment she is thinking of carrying on with all 4 and doing an extra AS....I am doing my best to talk her out of that!

BernadetteMatthews · 06/06/2015 07:58

Just coming back to say thank you again for being so lovely when DD was having a really difficult time with her ASs. We are both very glad they are over and will look at the resits after the results come out!

Hopefully your DCs get the results they need Brew

ancientbuchanan · 06/06/2015 08:48

Hey ho, two more to go. Seems really unfair that they have to go in and start the A2 work when there are still more papers to revise for.

MorvahRising · 06/06/2015 15:09

It does seem unfair. I just hope they won't be dishing out homework on top of revision for the few who are still slogging away at exams!

DS doesn't finish til the 16th. I think I shall be the only one left on the thread!

ancientbuchanan · 06/06/2015 16:27

They will. No, here until 22/6

AtiaoftheJulii · 06/06/2015 17:49

Is that S2 ancient, or something else?

Dd2 has two this week, but is actually looking forward to going back to school on Monday and doing something new rather than endless revision!

ancientbuchanan · 06/06/2015 22:34

I think so, followed by C3. But what do I know?

hellsbells99 · 06/06/2015 22:56

Morvah, Atia and Ancient - you will have to come over to the year 13 thread for the next 2 weeks! My DD1 is sitting C3 and C4 (plus she still has 2 chemistry and 2 biology papers). She finishes on the 17th but a couple of her friends doing further maths don't finish until the 23rd I think.

hellsbells99 · 06/06/2015 23:10

Actually Atia I think you are on the year 13 thread too - lots of Wine needed at this time of the year Grin

ancientbuchanan · 06/06/2015 23:53

I'll have to, it's really grim out here.

Dunlurking · 07/06/2015 07:59

Very sympathetic to those of you with exams still going on. I'm thinking of you.

Mentally we are switching to prospectuses, course details, open days etc. It seems tactless to start chatting about them in front of you but I shall be desperate to post about the process soon...

MorvahRising · 07/06/2015 08:14

hellsbells I may well pop over to the Y13 thread!

Dunlurking don't worry, we want to hear about open days too! Although we have postponed our visit to Exeter which was due on Saturday because DS needed to revise. We're going to go in September instead.

hellsbells99 · 07/06/2015 08:45

Dunlurking - our plan today is to look at prospectuses and open days!
I went to a BBQ last night and was chatting to a friend's DD who has just finished her 1st year at the uni that DD1 has firmed. She is having a ball!

SecretSquirrels · 07/06/2015 09:01

DS has started A2 work in between exams. One new and over enthusiastic young teacher has given them homework......

eatyourveg · 07/06/2015 09:12

I was looking for an open days thread in HE but couldn't find one - first one done and dusted here and really hoping ds strikes it off his list but I'm not going to offer any opinion unless/until he asks and he says he's not going to comment until he's been to all the others! Decided I'll have to dig out his spreadsheet and take a peek at the post open day comments column tomorrow when he's at college. Grin

ancientbuchanan · 07/06/2015 13:49

We are doing open days after exams.

LSE and Cambridge. Frankly, on the reports back on how the exams have gone it will be a nice day out and of no practical use this year at all. Hey ho.

Dunlurking · 07/06/2015 15:08

Morvah we're going to the Sept Exeter day as well. Just waiting for booking to open.
hellsbells must be nice to know your dd1 has a place she's going to be happy. Good Luck for exams for them both.
eatyourveg I was surprised there wasn't a thread as well. Do we need to start one or do we chat about them on here?
I can sympthasize ancientb As hellbells said further up, it feels like a long wait for results.

Leeds2 · 07/06/2015 16:32

I think a separate Open Days thread would be useful, in terms of which ones and coming up and DC's impressions.

MrsUltracrepidarian · 07/06/2015 16:48

Yes this would be good.
DS has added CL to his list ( he told us today), and by a complete coincidence (he was not aware) at a party last night DH & I were chatting to a UCL Physics lecturer. So hoping he will give some insight.

hellsbells99 · 07/06/2015 17:40

Here we are .....a new thread!

Leeds2 · 07/06/2015 18:17

Thanks, hellsbells.

MorvahRising · 09/06/2015 08:29

Don't suppose anyone else is doing maths D1 today?

Dunlurking · 09/06/2015 09:04

Good luck to your ds for today Morvah. Let us know how it went. What's he got left after today?

AtiaoftheJulii · 09/06/2015 09:14

Yup, dd2 is doing Edexcel D1 today :) She's had two and a half empty weeks in which to revise, so she's feeling quite happy, although slightly peeved that past a certain point it's kind of wasted ums as it won't affect her grade! (She already has 90 ums for S1 from last year, so her D1 will probably be part of her A2 rather than her AS.) Then C3 on Friday, in which every ums will count :)

Needmoresleep · 09/06/2015 09:29

I always thought you would need further maths to understand how maths UMS contributed towards the final grade. DD has M1 today, the paper she feels least secure about. Thank goodness its her last.

The relief is only temporary as one teacher is asking for A2 to be completed before the end of term, effectively in a couple of weeks as it is a private school and they break up very early, another has asked them to do a project, and then volunteering/work experience "reading round the subject" and UKCAT prep. I am so pleased I've booked a family holiday in August, otherwise there would be no break.

Still no guarantee she will get a medical school place, but at least she will have given it a good try.
