2015 Yr 12 support thread

Mocks this week, and the reality of AS exams in a few months is starting to hit home. I don't think it will be an easy journey, so would welcome some company.

DD was doing PhysicsB which no one else seems to do! Just looked on Student Room and there isn't even a thread for it - just physics A.
The good news is that the grade boundaries were so low last year that you only needed 62% to get an A on today's paper so fingers crossed that it might not have gone as bad as she thinks.
Roll on tomorrow lunchtime - they have plans I am informed! Rounders & pizza straight after exam, and then get together/sleepover at friends house.

Glad she didn't arrange the get together at ours as DD1 has exams until 17th and is getting rather stressy!

It's been a very relaxed fortnight for dd2, and she still doesn't have an exam until Tuesday (D1). She's been doing some revision every day this week, but not needing to go crazy.

Hope everyone's sanity is holding out; nearly there!

DS says he messed up some of the qus on the Physics paper.
Last of the AS s today - next Fri he has maths 'core3' which si apparently and A2 paper (??).
Forgot to ask him when the results are due out for AS - need to put in the diary???

August 13th, same as A2

Ds didn't finish the Physics paper and is refusing to talk about it so I think he realises his revision was inadequate! (Not a single past paper done at home in the last week - I have no sympathy, which is why he's not talking to me about it.)

hellsbells there were some people freaking about a paper being terrible in TSR thread and being told their paper wasn't the AQA A, so I think they were probably victims of the same B paper as your dd. Good Luck to her and everyone else for the S1 tomorrow, and any others still to go next week.

Dd is full of smiles - exams finished and major clothes shopping done today. Good luck to all those not finished yet. She said last night how much she was looking forward to learning something new on Monday when she's back at school. Bless her

MrsUltracrepidarian If he is doing Further Maths with AQA they do all the maths modules AS and A2 in Y12 and then all the FM modules in Y13.
So yes, he will have some A2 papers, Core3, Core4 and possibly M2.
They don't "cash them in" though until Y13.

From DS POV that seems to be the key thing rather than the grade...
I have not seen DS doing a past paper - well done to those who have DC who have been serious and responsible!

MrsU Very pleased to hear I'm not alone in not knowing what a Physics paper looks like. We can compare notes about the importance of past papers on here on 13th August!

Thanks hellsbells I looked on the Yr 13 thread and the consensus seems to be that the mechanics was 'OK'. Sorry to hear about poor DD's physics. It's so disappointing if they don't do themselves justice when they've worked so hard - but hopefully it won't be as bad as she thinks.

Physics A was also 'OK' although DS was very tight on time and knows he made a few mistakes. He also has statistics tomorrow morning - although actually I see it's today, I'm a bit late up. He is dreading this one as it's his worst out of the three applied modules.

He also has D1 and C3 maths next week as he is doing FM, and then C4 the week after so it doesn't half drag on . . . . . hooray for all those who have finished though! Have a lovely weekend!

DD2's last exam today, S1 . Good luck all.
Morvah - DD1 is also doing C3 & C4.

DD2 is doing D1 and C3 next week (not doing FM, just spreading one Maths A level over 3 years!), and DD1 is doing C3, C4 and S2. They are both doing Edexcel - last year they both did C1 and S1 - I was worried about them comparing themselves or being competitive, but it worked out ok with each doing better in one paper This year as long as they both end up with over 90 ums for C3 I think they will be relieved enough not to care what the other gets.

Yes they get the UMS on results day.
DS has done lots of past papers, though unlike his DB last year, he doesn't have a spreadsheet with every past paper in the history of the exam board ticked off. His teacher has also compiled some practise papers consisting only of extra hard questions. He doesn't want to do them for fear of being demoralised.

DS was a bit stumped for past papers as he's doing literature and performance-type subjects. Not much point practising questions about 1960s influences on the Beatles if you're studying Bertoldt Brecht. At least, that's his excuse...

SecretSquirrels I love the past paper spreadsheet thing. Shall create one for ds next year. Somehow I don't think Physics is going to progress past AS level though....

Kitties funnily enough ds did talk about past papers when it came to Drama - to tell me that every year the same questions get asked and twisted slightly . Fortunately that turned out to be the case this year.

Yes, well, DS's forte is procrastination and plausible excuses rather than actual work. I think he has a future in politics.

Again I got no real feedback on physics (OCR B, DD is the champion of obscure boards and papers - what on earth is OCR MEI maths - just as well I am not too involved, and from what some of her friends are saying she did well to avoid Edexel.)

There seems to be a real end of term feeling, especially now the Yr13s are on study leave and have essentially left. Only a year more of school.

M1 on Tuesday. I am promised she will spend the weekend doing past papers. Its her least favourite bit of maths, so I hope she does. The third series of Orange is the New Black is available next Friday so something to look forward to.

dd2's last exam is on Friday :) I believe her tweet (re OITNB) went something along the lines of "praise Netflix for caring enough not to screw up my AS levels"

DS reports statistics (Edexcel) as better than he thought it might be. He is currently doing a D1 paper and is then going to have the rest of the day off. It's been a really tough week with five exams.

kitties I think your DS will go a long way with those qualities. DS also procrastinates, and I feel guilty nagging him because I'm the world's worst procrastinator myself. In fact, I am currently avoiding a piece of work I ought to be doing because it's much more vital to plant out my tomatoes.

S1 "OK" said my text from ds. He's finished now and I have no idea what he's doing with the rest of the day. There are parties......
