Mocks this week, and the reality of AS exams in a few months is starting to hit home. I don't think it will be an easy journey, so would welcome some company.

I know the feeling MyVisions. Ds Maths papers are sitting on his desk but he is away performing in an Edinburgh Fringe show until Sunday. I am tempted everyday to slit the envelope, and show the contents to my retired Maths teacher mum to forget the whole exam lark and let him enjoy the rest of his summer.

dd has got her papers back today - she got them sent to our home address, I don't know if they have gone via her college first.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 27/08/2015 17:21

well bugger, the paper was marked pretty well Sad. One question answered perfectly, except when she should have been discussing the differences between x and y, she got the differences right, just wrote x for both of them, so no marks for that question. And the other one, she picked a small case study and ran out of things to write about, so dropped three marks.

Her old teacher has said to email the paper over and she'll have a look, which is lovely of her DD may have put her on a guilt trip for abandoning her midway through the A level Wink, but it doesn't look like there are enough potential marks to justify a remark.

Still to hear if the whole subject remark is going ahead, school has been remarkably cagey about the whole thing. But, if she did the same thing in those two papers, then she deserves the mark she's got proof read your answers next time DD

Congratulations to gloria's DS.

Good luck to all students with their remarks, I think exam boards must occasionally make mistakes. I got a B in Gcse French 20+years ago, no idea how,I was truly terrible at French, of course when its that way round you just count your good fortune and keep very quiet!

Cherryburn · 27/08/2015 17:47

Congrats to your DS Gloria. No marks for that question seems harsh MyVisions when she has obviously just made a careless mistake.

No news here Sad so either the papers aren't back or the teacher hasn't looked at them yet. Wish they'd hurry up as the outcome impacts on whether a Cambridge application is still worth a shot and on subject choices to take to A Level next year. DD's feeling a bit in limbo. I imagine the rest of the class are too.

LIZS · 27/08/2015 19:11

Ds history teachers are recommending a remark having seen the Tudor paper but we need to discuss first.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 27/08/2015 21:46

Cherryburn - because the question was worded along the lines of "discuss the differences between the effects of x and y on something", and she wrote "x means that a, b and c happen; x on the other hand means than d,e and f happen", she didn't answer the question. It's obvious that she knows the stuff, and it's clear it was a careless mistake, but, it's an AS level question which she didn't answer. Thankfully she still has an A overall, so for everywhere other than Cambridge, her results look good. Plus she'll be more careful with proofreading in future Wink. Got to find a silver lining Smile.

Welcome to Year 13! DD2 has been back at school for 3 days and has lots of work already.

Needmoresleep · 05/09/2015 08:27

Hi, I've started a new thread called The Class of 2016. However I realise that I forgot to put Yr13 in the title so it may sink like a stone. So others feel free to either add to it, or start one with a clearer title.

(Actually I might get MN to edit the title.)

The PS is only in its first draft and needs to be ready for the October medical school deadline. And the long list of possible Universities is still a long list. Its going to be an interesting month.

Yes I would get the title edited because I looked at it and wondered whether it meant Y11 or Y13
