Waiting for DS1's Gcses results on 22nd of August. He did really well last year but, all the talk of moving grade boundaries has got me worried. Fingers are very tightly crossed for maths as this is the subject he struggles with most.

OP posts:

Oh good lord! abyssmalSad he can still do his course but my god they were dreadful. Feel like i've been kicked in the ribs. Way worse than his predictions. He's more worried about me than anything else. Need to buck up and smile.

mayaswell · 22/08/2013 10:20

ormirian glad he can still do his course.
Have a cup of tea and a hug x

duchesse · 22/08/2013 10:21

DD is taking the train home by herself and then walking the 3 miles from the station. She has still not divulged anything grade-like. So frustrating!

ormirian pleased that he can still do his course. That's the main thing hug

Duchesse I'd have to accidentally bump into her walking back from the station. I couldn't stand the wait!

DelayedActionMouseMaker · 22/08/2013 10:25

Omiran, getting on his course is all that really matters, as long as he does ok onthecourse no one will look twice at his gcse's again! :)

duchesse · 22/08/2013 10:27

jw, it did occur to me to just happen to cycle accidentally in that direction, but she'll be well cross if I do that.

littlemisswise · 22/08/2013 10:30

Orm I'm sorry!

DS2 got 8As and 2Bs. I am over the moon.

NutsInMay33 · 22/08/2013 10:30

Oh blow it. DS' results are not good. Not bad but not good. He is gutted. If I am honest, so am I. I want to shout that it might have helped if he had worked harder. But I won't - I need to be the supportive mum here. Gawd this parenting lark is blooming hard :(

turningvioletviolet · 22/08/2013 10:34

DS got 10 As and and A* - so so happy for him. Not expected at all - thought he was going to be borderline fail in maths at least. He is not a natural academic so all achieved through some tough revision! DH took him in whilst I sat chewing my nails at work waiting for a phone call. Next stop A levels!

prettydaisies · 22/08/2013 10:35

DS did really well; lots of A*s and As and one rogue B for Spanish!
My daughter has just finished Y12 and no one asks about GCSE results once you are doing the next thing, so as long as you get enough to get on the course you want to do it should be ok. You can also resit says I remembering my dim and distant past.

magentadreamer · 22/08/2013 10:44

Orm ,so sorry but at least he can do his course.

DD is hanging on till 11am for a friend who is currently being driven up the M62 by her Dad. DD is scared, I'm just hoping that she has pulled off the C in English. Her friend is in a similar boat regarding English.

duchesse · 22/08/2013 10:49

Everything is so uncertain for them this year. It's stressful enough for them at the best of times without that bastard Gove making it worse. Good luck to all the DC and may they all manage to get onto the post 16 courses they want to.

circular · 22/08/2013 10:51

Well done to all so far.
Getting into the course they want to is great. Anything else a 'nice to have'.
Sitting in the car bricking it at the moment. Can see DD in the queue.
Some parents are queueing with them, but not sure Im allowed to lol.

MultumInParvo · 22/08/2013 10:54

Good overall here, although she is gutted with her geography c. Needed a b for a level so not sure whether she can still take it.

lilibet · 22/08/2013 11:03

He needed 3 B's and 3 C's

He got 2B's and 4 C's He expected a B in English and got a C

Sad

He can't do the course he wants at the college he wants.

We took him out for breakfast and the sight of him biting his lip as hard as he could and with his head down was heart breaking. He's 6ft and a rugby player (and gorgeous!)

We will have to see what they can offer him.

celticclan · 22/08/2013 11:07

What was he hoping to do Lilibet?

DD didnt do too badly but after getting a B in her mocks and predicted a B, she got a D! Her coursework that was marked and moderated as C has been marked down as D.

Going to get it remarked I think, she is gutted as she wanted to do History at A Level.

Bogeyface · 22/08/2013 11:16

Sorry, that is B in her mocks for History.

hoochymama1 · 22/08/2013 11:18

Same here, really disappointing Sad One A, one B and three C's. Needed three B's to do A levels in his school. He has an appointment to talk to them tomorrow at 3. Not looking good. My thoughts are with everyone else...nice Brew and lots of Biscuit will make us feel better maybe Hmm

lilibet · 22/08/2013 11:24

He wanted to do A Levels at a local sixth form college, his options now, are A levels at his school's sixth form which I don't really rate or a BTEC and one A level at the college he applied for.

What are people's opinions on BTEC's instead of A levels?

FrauMoose · 22/08/2013 11:27

Daughter very pleased as she has A*s in the subjects she intends to take in the sixth form.

celticclan · 22/08/2013 11:27

I'm generally positive regarding Btec's. I think too many people are encouraged to opt for A levels when they aren't for everyone. What subjects at A level and Btec is he considering?

bigbluebus · 22/08/2013 11:28

Feel sorry for all those whose schools open late or are waiting for DCs to get home under their own steam. DSs school opened at 9.00. He was one of the 1st there and came straight out again with results in hand, so we didn't have to wait as long as we thought.
He got 8 A's and 2 B's to add to the A he got last year. He/we are thrilled although he is a little disappointed he didn't get an a* I think. But notwithstanding the fact he has ASD and a Statement his results are fantastic.
