Waiting for DS1's Gcses results on 22nd of August. He did really well last year but, all the talk of moving grade boundaries has got me worried. Fingers are very tightly crossed for maths as this is the subject he struggles with most.

DS did really well so we're absolutely thrilled and very relieved. He has gone into town with his friends and has forgotten both his door keys and phone. He'll have to sit on the doorstep if he gets home before I get back from work.

I hope those who are having problems with college and A level choices get things sorted out.

lubeybooby · 22/08/2013 11:29

I am really proud of DD but she is disappointed. Poor thing just won't accept she did good! Four B's and Five C's.

However we have spotted a potential mistake in one of the module marks, and also one entire exam for maths was missed with no suitable retake (she was really ill) and she still managed a C

She worked so hard so I'm really proud anyway

cricketballs · 22/08/2013 11:31

Lilibet - BTECs are an excellent qualification despite the what the majority of MN say the vast majority of unis accept them and they give a more practical experience in the field they chose to study than A levels

DelayedActionMouseMaker · 22/08/2013 11:32

I don't have a chid of gcse age, but reading this got me remembering going and getting my a level results, which I totally f**ked up (because of a stupid boy infatuation) and felt like I'd mucked up my whole life. I'll never forget the gut wrenching disappointment and realisation that it was all my own doing for having shagfests instead of revising.

BUT, it really gave me the kick up the arse I needed, I went on and did an HNC and a full time job (day release for studies) and got into a much better Uni than I would have ever dreamed of first time round. This was due in big part to my parents not tearing a strip off of me as I expected, but in showing me that it was just one mistake, not the end of my world.

I'm sure when the time comes I will be beside myself if dd doesn't get what she needs, but I wanted to give those of you facing dissapointment at least one story where the cock up got someone an eventual better outcome.

Have my fingers crossed for you all.

Great post, delayed :)

beatback · 22/08/2013 11:43

Newphew 1A 4As, 4Bs, A History A Maths/Englishlanguage/English lit Physics Very happy with that. He wants to do As history/English/Politics at the Schools 6thform. He got is Results on line at 8Am and rung us at about 8.10 he was very happy because he did better than he thought he was going to do.

Merrylegs · 22/08/2013 11:47

Well omg. DS got 2A*s, 4As, 4Bs. Sheer bloody hard work. Very proud of him!

creamteas · 22/08/2013 11:53

DD did really well with a couple of As, Bs and Cs. But most importantly she got the magic C in English :) I'm so proud.

englishteacher78 · 22/08/2013 11:56

My class did brilliantly! All As and A*s. So pleased as it didn't come easily to all of them. We beat Maths!!! Grin

Waitingaround · 22/08/2013 11:58

9a* and 3 a's :-)

jamdonut · 22/08/2013 11:59

What was I nervous for?

She got A for French, A's for Maths, RE, English Lang.,Music and History and B's for English Lit.,Science, and Textiles. Plus, Distinction for IT and PE. (She took Statistics last year and got B).

She was shocked at the science result ...was so sure she was gettining a D,as it is not her best subject!

She can go and do her A levels in Music,French and History in the 6th form with no worries now!(needed 3 B's) Grin

HisMum4now · 22/08/2013 12:01

Oh well done to your DD, creamteas The C in English is such a relief !Cake Wine

Well done to all DC.

ravenAK · 22/08/2013 12:02

Nice one englishteacher78 Smile.

Not so happy here - mine were all C/D borderliners, the boundary's been shifted AGAIN & mine & the set below have been badly hit. They took it in January so we knew how many would be OK based on last year's boundaries, so it's gutting. Sad.

Dd2 has just told me to stop crying because 'you can always rub out their wrong answers, mummy.' If only!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/08/2013 12:02

Well, for saying she did virtually no work at all (grrrrr) dd2 has survived reasonably well with 2 As, one C and the rest Bs. I still feel cross that she took it all so casually though. Have to try not to compare her with dd1, but it's hard. Now the battle begins as to which A levels she should choose, from a frankly v poor options grouping list. She has no idea what she wants to do later and 'hates everything.' Ugh.

duchesse · 22/08/2013 12:03

Phew! 8 A*, 3 A. Wait over. As in English, Maths and Music.

Fedupnagging · 22/08/2013 12:12

Ds2 has done so much better than expected - 2 B's and the rest C's so he has got into college to do the course he wants.

Given that ds2 did no work and failed every single mock exam, we are mightily relieved proud.

YouStayClassySanDiego · 22/08/2013 12:17

We're thrilled! Grin.

5 A's
3 B's

His science paper is being re-marked as he was one off an A so hopefully another A with some luck.

They all flunked ICT bizaarely, ds got D.

LazyMonkeyButler · 22/08/2013 12:25

Congratulations to everyone who did well. Commiserations to those who are disappointed.

DS1 will be picking up his results this time next year & I am already nervous! He has Aspergers and is already convinced that anything other than A* is a failure Sad. I'll be thrilled with passes at any grade TBH.

He has taken 2 GCSE's this year but won't get the results until September.

boschy · 22/08/2013 12:26

DD1 is very disappointed - grade boundary moves have hit her hard.

A* for media downgraded to B
A for citizenship down to C

Still, she got merit for Btec science, merit for Btec ICT, C for english IGCSE.

aaaargh and bloody maths - another D. resits for her in 6th form, but she has been told she can take foundation maths...

going out for lunch and then the cinema. fucking gove, fucking grade boundaries, fuck em all.

very well done to those who got what they wanted!

HepsibarCrinkletoes · 22/08/2013 12:27

DS got 4Bs, 3Cs and a D. The D is in maths and he will retake that. He's really disappointed, massively so in fact. Was predicted A/A* in history, geography and business studies. But, he has got the grades that mean he can stay on for his A levels.

I am massively proud of him. The past 18m have been so hard for them since their father died and DS also (wrongly) compares himself to his older two sisters who Aced everything, and then did the same again with A levels.

Very proud of my niece who got 9 A's and an A although she was disappointed with the A which was English Lang - forecast to get A but messed up a little on actual exam paper...

duchesse · 22/08/2013 12:39

DD got A on Eng Lang as well. An effect of Mr Gove?

duchesse · 22/08/2013 12:41

I'm just so relieved that the deaths of both her grandfathers during exams didn't throw her off her stride. DD1 said she did virtually no work after the second GF died. Plus due to the suddenness of both deaths DD1 (18) and DD2 (15) at the time had a few days of being on their own. Thank goodness I had stocked the fridge just before going away...

ravenAK · 22/08/2013 12:44

Results are on secure exam board websites Coconutty so it's possible to work out boundaries if you know the raw scores. I was poring over AQA at 6am...

Gist of it is that AQA Eng Lang has gone up another 3 marks 'raw score' (out of 80) to get a C, after last year's outrageous hike. Similar in Maths I think from what colleagues have said.

So well done to everyone who was on the C/D borderline & has been successful - it's never been harder!

Gove will tear us apart. Again...
