So only about 2 months til the final exams so starting a thread to discuss revision, exams etc.

Have any schools released details of easter revision classes yet? I've heard nothing from our school and don't know if they are doing any. If they aren't, I might look at what else is on offer over easter.

Waiting in suspense for DS to open his 😬

She's in tears under a blanket.
She got 2 x B's (English & Engineering)
but a C for Maths (her tutor had promised an A so she feels a failure plus she's doing Higher Maths which might be a stretch considering?)
I'm simply relived she has Maths & English Nat5 (plus Engineering - result!)

Aw bless her poor thing. That is a good set of results still. Can she appeal the C?

RollOnJune23 · 08/08/2023 11:26

Her tutor shouldn't have said that, to be fair

DD’s maths teacher told her similar. He said he’d be disappointed if she didn’t get an A.
(She hasn’t)
But dd said after that exam that it was hard and she couldn’t answer one of the questions at all as she had never seen anything like it before (her friends said the same )
My friend has a son in a different school and he also said something in it he hadn’t been taught either.
So probably a hard maths exam this year.

Still nothing here. Becoming clear that DS didn't actually complete the process to sign up for texts. 😡

Guess we'll just have to wait on the post.

They get an email.

neveradullmoment99 · 08/08/2023 11:38

2 A's and 3 B's for my dd🥳🥳🥳

tigger1001 · 08/08/2023 11:38

@neveradullmoment99 - I thought they had to sign up for the emails as well?

Rae36 · 08/08/2023 11:38

Ds got a C in higher history. He's happy with that because he came to really hate it, even though he's hugely interested in history. It just seemed that no matter how he wrote his essays they weren't quite in the right format and he didn't quite get the marks, even though his knowledge is amazing. Shame, but there you go. I think he's just glad to be done with it. It's a weird way of working.

I'm sorry your dd is disappointed @54isanopendoor It's a shame her tutor got her hopes up for an A. Ds started Higher Maths with a C but found it hard so is studying it over 2 years. That seems to be quite a common approach in their school so he was happy with that.

Not according to my daughter?
I think it still comes through regardless but I may be wrong.

dementedpixie · 08/08/2023 11:49

They need to sign up to mySqa to get the email/text. If they sign up for Nat5s they don't need to do it again for Higher/AH

I went to my exercise class before ds was up and then when I got home he was out and hadn't messaged me. Then the school rang near the end of the class and I missed the call.

DS got 5 As (maths, English, computing, physics and chemistry that he did as a crash higher) and apparently were all band 1 so he's to go up to the school in uniform tomorrow for photos and that's why the school was trying to get hold of him.

I haven't actually seen him yet as he was messaging from the gym!

Still waiting on the postie. It’s killing me!

sassanach · 08/08/2023 12:14

Just to make parents aware, prelims are not taken into consideration when appealing this year. Rules have changed so They just remark the exam paper so your kid might get the exact same results or lower

There's more info about that Up thread if that's any use to you

Mine won't open the letter

I just don’t understand the banding! DS rang to say he got A2s in Nat 5 English and one other. Does that just mean a B in normal speak as far as UCAS is concerned?

Survey99 · 08/08/2023 12:35

Unusual to be told bands, but an A1 or A2 are both As. B1, B2 are Bs etc, just higher or lower in the range.

How does he know the band?

RhymesWithTangerine · 08/08/2023 12:39

I think he knows the band cos he went into school to get his results, so maybe the staff told him?

The postman was empty handed this morning so we had a stress out.The school wasn’t even answering the phone so he decided just to walk to school and try his luck.

Noontimes · 08/08/2023 12:54

Does the school find out the %rages then? Wondering whether to appeal on of my daughters Nat 5 results. Has always got As in this subject in the past and thought the exam went well but ended up with a B. If they are 1% off an A it would be worth a remark, but if 5% off I wouldn’t bother.

Survey99 · 08/08/2023 13:04

@noontimes As far as I remember, pre covid which is similar to now, the SQA coordinator at the school is given the actual marks, they will know if they are a point or two off the next grade up and if a check of the mark is worth it to see if they find a mark that has been missed that might tip them into an A.

NicolaSturGONE · 08/08/2023 13:06

DD says her school does not have anyone available to answer questions today or reveal bandings as two of her friends called the school to query getting lower results than expected. They were hoping to find out the bandings but the school have told them NOT to come in.

Our school has a specific day and set times for people to speak to someone at the school. They have split it alphabetically and put them into time slots

Threeboysadogandacat · 08/08/2023 13:24

Five A’s and a B for English (highers) for ds3. He’s very pleased with that. We’ve not heard from any of his friends yet but hoping everyone has done well.

RollOnJune23 · 08/08/2023 13:32

So he opened in the end - he sat 5 and passed them all, which is all I could ever hope for!
