SNP hates women

ASmallMovie · 01/02/2021 19:11

In the last 24 hours, Joanna Cherry has been sacked from the front-bench and measures have been introduced to make it impossible for Joan McAlpine to be re-elected. Both these women are feminists and vocal campaigners for the protection of the hard-won sex-based rights of women and children. Nothing they have said or written is transphobic.

Also, Humza Yousef has bowed to pressure and decided not to proceed with an amendment which would protect people who are fighting for girls and women's rights.

I have lost all respect for Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP. Was planning to vote for them in May, but now find that impossible.
This is a depressing, shameful state of affairs.

The SNP truly does hate women.

I absolutely bloody love 😍the feminism boards on here, I've learned so much. I'm currently running an undercover stickering campaign locally and reading loads of feminist books. My eyes are wide open now!

Rhannion · 01/11/2021 21:18

Glad to see other women in Scotland joining our campaigning. The more the merrier

Waitwhat23 · 03/11/2021 12:56

I'm sure this has been mentioned elsewhere but I found myself particularly pissed off today by the cervical screening radio advertisements which are currently running and are full of TRA/Stonewall/SNP bullshit.

'If you have a cervix...'. I used to work in a public building in Edinburgh and we frequently had service users who spoke next to no English. I'm guessing cervix doesn't often come up in ESOL classes, whereas woman will.

'2 people...'. This makes no sense.

'To make you more comfortable, you can ask for someone of the same gender to examine you.' Utterly meaningless. They are (deliberately) conflating sex and gender and making a shit environment for those who want to be only examined by a female for a myriad of reasons. It also makes me think of when I had a cyst on my vulva and was examined by a male doctor (with a chaperone). He was nice and professional but didn't put a sheet of paper over me (the one to make you feel a bit less exposed). A stupid wee thing and wasn't deliberate but he just didn't think of it. Every female examiner I've ever had has always remembered. Because they know what it's like.

Health care having clear and unequivocal language has obviously dropped away in preference to being 'inclusive'. Never mind those who won't know what the word cervix is, right?

I wonder whether they'll do the same for the prostate screening campaign? I'm guessing not.

But nhs health messaging has to be checked for readability to make sure it's understood by the wider public

SirChenjins · 03/11/2021 14:50

NHSS health messaging has to toe the party political line.

'SNP ministers criticised for urging 'anyone with a cervix' to get a smear test | HeraldScotland" www.heraldscotland.com/politics/19639181.snp-ministers-criticised-urging-anyone-cervix-get-smear-test/

From the article - 'A 2017 survey found almost half of women were unable to identify the cervix as the neck of the womb, despite cervical cancer being the most common cancer in women under 35.'

I have mainly lurked in the feminist site and it is full of really knowledgeable women who have really opened my eyes.
Because of my job, I need to be careful but continue to tie my little ribbons to things, act dumb in public by asking lots of questions, looking quizzically when they try to explain what a women is in non-stereotypical way.
I did set up another account on Twitter to follow women for Scotland who are brilliant, but I am a bit rubbish with Twitter and hardly go there.
I think that those on these pages who have stumbled across this should maybe have a look at the feminist section and start to read what is being said. Once you do, I suspect many of you will be shocked at what Scotland is sleepwalking towards.

Haudyourwheesht · 03/11/2021 19:17

Well exactly, @Waitwhat23. An awful lot of women, for whatever reasons, don't know what their cervix is, but I'm damn sure trans people can accurately label every bit of themselves. So why not target the messaging directly to those who might get missed?

boobashka · 03/11/2021 20:21

I'm similar to you @Selkiesarereal. Just waking up to this and learning from those on the feminist topic but not saying anything IRL (apart from discussion with DH) as I'm scared for my job. Terrible to feel that way. And so scared for DD of what Scotland is becoming...

You can support in your own way just by reading and helping to crowd fund various people in the fight. Every penny and pound helps and it can be anonymous.
Beefcurtains79 · 05/11/2021 08:02

What they are doing to women in plain sight is chilling.

SirChenjins · 05/11/2021 08:16

It seems like anything is tolerated as long as the end goal is independence.

applesandpears33 · 05/11/2021 12:38

It is very chilling what has happened to freedom of speech. In theory, we still have fos but in practice many women are afraid to speak out.

Rhannion · 06/11/2021 11:03

The tide is turning! Have a look at the front page of The Herald today about how the Scottish government is being taken to task by Scottish judges about trying to change the definition of women. Comments below article are furious about the skeekit wee bastards at Holyrood

Selkiesarereal · 07/11/2021 09:39

Oh now that is good news. Maybe more and more people are beginning to question them and realise what is actually at stake in this.

Tobogganist · 07/11/2021 14:07

I'm another one just recently waking up to this. Just checked the link above from @Waitwhat23 "2 people ..."!!!I hadn't picked up on that until reading this!

I'm also educating myself on the MN Feminism boards. Agree some highly informed critical thinkers on there. Great to read and learn.

It is ASTONISHING what's happening with the deletion of women and women's rights.

SNP, Scottish Civil Service and NHS Scotland have been royally Stonewalled.

boobashka · 07/11/2021 21:30

Thanks for the twitter link @Waitwhat23

"Two people" - incredible!
So enlightening that Men's health charities have no problem with calling people with a penis "men"...

Waitwhat23 · 07/11/2021 21:46

On the 'naughty step' board, there have been many, many TRA posters who have insisted that men's language is being changed in the same way as women's language (cervix havers, chest feeders, those who bleed, menstruators etc). Any company or product who use the word woman is often immediately piled on to make their language 'more inclusive'. On one thread, the sole and solitary example any of us could find in regards to language around men being changed was Prostate Cancer UK who have a list of those who 'have a prostate' but use the word man or men throughout the rest of the website. The terms 'prostate haver' or 'ejaculator' aren't being used. There's an erectile dysfunction pill being marketed to 'men' on the TV at the moment while in Scotland, there are TV adverts referring to 'those with a cervix'.

Men's language isn't being changed in the same way - that's a simple fact. It's quite clear why that is.
