@StatisticallyChallenged I have also experienced this M&S phenomenon in another branch! Our cafe was particularly bad for it.

Bikingbear · 30/12/2020 23:49

I've only been in M&S a couple of times mainly for click n collect and getting odd bits from the food hall at the same time. And yes elderly couples taking an age.

Regarding-schools it was suggested to me that it was a deliberate ploy to allow limited spread in schools, allowing immunity to build up in the younger population. As a Plan B incase the vaccines didn't work.

Crackers are behind us - who are we getting on the telly tomorrow night?

@Rae36

Sending a hug for *@Groovee*

I've not had much to say recently because I can't be bothered thinking up anything witty or cheery or uplifting or interesting. I'm fed up and flat and miserable.

But I did enjoy watching The Prom on Netflix yesterday. Meryl Streep, James Corden, Nicole Kidman, glamour, sequins, music.

That's the extent of my intellectual contributions to the discussion right now.

I would also recommend Brigerton on Netflix.

Yes, Bridgerton is filling a gap nicely.
M&S laughs tonight, so true. Ditto the Dobbies crowd.

WouldBeGood · 31/12/2020 03:19

I’ve been watching Lilyhammer, the Sopranos spin off set in Norway. It’s bizarre and very funny.

rookiemere · 31/12/2020 08:17

@WaxOnFeckOff I was hoping my NHS letter yesterday was my breast screening as DM had breast cancer a couple of years ago, as have a few other female relatives so I'm keen to get the test, but no it was my exciting smear reminder. Still beats the poo sample request a couple of months ago - turning 50 is an absolute riot I tell ya.

Quite excited by the thought of actually being allowed into the doctors surgery. Am going to time it for a Friday afternoon just in case there are any leftover vaccines and no one to give them to. I used to dream about winning the lottery- what has happened to me ?

Bikingbear · 31/12/2020 11:56

Last day of 2020, although the pandemic is far from over, it feels good to see the back of 2020.
Really weird I had a bad feeling going into 2020 then chilled out about a week or two in. The world was still going round mmm!!

rookiemere · 31/12/2020 12:09

Yes I'm very much looking forward to the back of 2020 - toodlepip and all that - although not looking forward to the end of my extended break. WFH has been awful for the past couple of months - although obviously I wake up each morning grateful not to be a front line worker - and I'm not looking forward to logging on again.

Until the pandemic and Wfh I was very much of the opinion I'd retire when I had to, but the last couple of months have been so dire I've had a change of mind and will retire when DHs self invested pension allows us to do so. Doesn't fit in well with my feminist principles and means I'll have to keep in with DH until we die, but if financially it's doable, then why the heck not ?

RaraRachael · 31/12/2020 12:28

Thank goodness it's the end of 2020. Great uncertainty of what is going to face us in schools next week, but hey ho surely 2021 will be an improvement Hmm

I'm just looking forward to going somewhere hot and sunny next year fingers crossed Even the shithole that is Sidari in Corfu that we mistakenly thought was a nice quiet village a few years ago Grin

Bikingbear · 31/12/2020 12:34

Rara do you work in schools?

RaraRachael · 31/12/2020 12:41

BikingBear. Yes I do. Our HT has been very good and not bothered us with anything school related over the holidays. I'm expecting to get a message to say we have to come in to school for more info on Tuesday as that was our first day back. On one hand people are being told to work from home wherever possible but NS has said staff must be in school Hmm

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 31/12/2020 13:05

I am hopeful that 2021 will be better for me. I have a few job interviews lined up, including for my dream job which is perfect timing after my shitty previous job ending with an exit package. And its WFH permanently so ideal given my disabilities and inability to wear a fecking mask. So fingers crossed for that. I am also determined to get the lockdown weight back off. Hopefully my gym will reopen again this year as it gave me a reason to get out and socialise and it was a very inclusive and supportive environment. I also badly need my eyebrows done lol.

DollyMixtureLulus · 31/12/2020 13:07

My eyebrows are concerning also Blush

I just had the oddest conversation with my usually sensible mum, who is very concerned that I won't have anyone first footing Hmm

Rae36 · 31/12/2020 13:12

First footing is a big deal in our family too. Its weird as anything to think it will probably be February

WaxOnFeckOff · 31/12/2020 13:15

We don't get many visitors anyway but thinking about whether we had a first foot last year. Think it might have been the guy who came to inspect our sofa in October.

Lidlfix · 31/12/2020 13:18

A sofa inspector Grin Just how fancy is your sofa/house ? I am in awe.

WaxOnFeckOff · 31/12/2020 13:26

I wish it was a positive thing lidl. Basically part of our fairly new sofas has collapsed (webbing/foam at back of one seat) . They no longer do the same colour so our options were to swap for a different colour or style or full refund or keep with a partial refund. We didn't want those options and just wanted a repair. So they sent an independent inspector. Upshot is that it's repairable but they can't get the parts so we are back to square 1. Parking it until the new year to try to work out what to do.

WaxOnFeckOff · 31/12/2020 13:31

Seems a shame to ditch 2 sofas for this

We have been told we have to be in school on the 6th for meetings about how we open on the 7th. Very unsure why this has to be in the building as it could easily be done via Zoom and we won’t be allowed in groups bigger than 6 anyway. Same happened for October’s inservice day. Makes no sense when the advice is to be working from home if at all possible. Have already brought home all the resources I’ll need for my video lessons so no need to be in the building.

Lidlfix · 31/12/2020 13:34

That is rubbish. We went through furniture quickly when the girls were younger as not much could withstand 4 "ballerinas and gymnasts" . So bought cheap . However, my good room pride and joy purchased when they were older I would be well annoyed about. Have you ever taken to Twitter to complain?

RaraRachael · 31/12/2020 13:44

mondaywine I'm lucky because I live and work in the same town but we have a few teachers who drive 20 miles to come to school, Surely they can't be expected to risk their lives driving on snowy roads to not actually be teaching children.

I've no idea how many children we're expecting to be in, but last time the hub only had around 20-30 and that was from 8 schools,

Bikingbear · 31/12/2020 13:45

I don't get the logic of asking teachers to go into empty schools either other than it stops the comments about teachers skiving.

Maybe it's a backhanded acceptance that folk can't work effectively from home and watch kids at the same time.

A form of torture I'm not looking forward too. Is it wishful thinking that it's much easier to get a 4 year old self entertain than a 3 year old? Hmm

WaxOnFeckOff · 31/12/2020 13:49

To be fair, there is really nothing I can complain about. They are happy to resolve by full refund, exchange to full replacement value or for us to pay or have refunded any difference. They got an inspector out who says it's a manufacturing defect. They've contacted the manufacturers in Italy who say they can't supply the parts and the inspector/possible repairer says he can't repair without manufacturers parts.

we have a narrow piece of wall and the smaller of the two sofas fits in it perfectly, that's very difficult to find hence me not wanting to just choose something else. Only options in same sofa are black, cream or pale grey, none of which I fancy.

I think we are going to get an upholsterer in to see if they can do anything and then charge that back but it may invalidate our guarantee. It's obviously a minor issue in the grand scheme of things, but like you, this is our first new sofa for about 18 years and I redecorated/bought curtains and cushions to fit in with the change of colour scheme.

Groovee · 31/12/2020 14:23

We have our inservice online on the 5th like the October one. Then none of us know what is happening.

I'm thinking of chucking Ds out to first foot us with a box of shortbread 🙈

HigherHeaven · 31/12/2020 14:32

I’m sure I’m not alone but I’m finding it hard to ‘celebrate’ seeing the back of 2020, when the ‘front’ of 2021 is looking remarkably similar?! I just keep wondering when it’s all going to feel better? I have to sustain myself with thoughts of being by the sea on a lovely beach (no where that requires a flight this year I’m afraid) - it’s nice and sunny, my DS is celebrating his ‘exam’ results and we’re all healthy and/or vaccinated and looking forward to a ‘normal’ school year. Oh and I’ll have a job because I’ve been unable to secure any employment this year but have an interview next week!

I will thank my lucky stars that I haven’t lost anyone close though, and will raise a glass to all those who haven’t been as lucky. And I’ll raise another for those who have kept life going like the nurses and doctors, teachers, supermarket staff, the bin men, train and bus drivers etc...

And then for the first time ever (and I’ve lived in Scotland for 15 years) I’ll enjoy a steak pie on New Year’s Day thanks to the threads I’ve seen on here Smile
