What are your thoughts on what was spoken about albeit briefly on Friday about possibly closing schools on the 18th and returning on the 11th?
They said it's going to be discussed further this week.
I wonder if they go ahead it will be complete closure or blended learning for the extra days 🤔

Oh I don't envy parents waiting for this. I guess it might be mitigated a little by some working from home (still a nightmare but at least at home).

I too remember this time 10 years ago with the schools being shut for days due to the snow. I used up my last day holiday for 1, a parent whose child was friends with mine but i barely knew took mine for another day, i had to buy a day from my next years holidays and I think 1 day unpaid.

All the time being stressed and hassled from work by my childless boss :(

Heard on the news that it won't be standardised across the country, but will be up to individual counties what they want to do

audweb · 02/12/2020 20:25

Counties? Is that Scotland? I’m tired of not knowing. This rumour has been going around for days now, everything is unsettling at the minute, surely for some things they can just make a decision. This leaking is just them trying to gauge how people will take it.

RaraRachael · 02/12/2020 20:40

Yes it was on the STV news tonight. So now it will be drawn out even longer as each area decides what they're going to do. From a teacher's point of view, I'd far rather keep the original dates rather than having to go on to Google classrooms again.

Outsidemum1 · 02/12/2020 21:02

The councils met yesterday. GCC leader of education against it but not sure if she got voted down by the rest of the decision makers. Should find out tomorrow.

Possums4evr · 02/12/2020 21:03

Some finished earlier anyway, but in that case the return date will be further back - so all LAs affected really.
Online work is hard (I've spent all evening trying to narrate one PowerPoint Hmm) but it isn't about what's easy it's about reducing infection chances either side of christmas.

Outsidemum1 · 02/12/2020 21:04

Some councils like East Ayrshire already changed theirs. It's not SG decision. Makes sense to have the autonomy as places like Orkney for example don't need it.

MrsAmaretto · 02/12/2020 21:28

It better be a local authority decision, We’ve had no community transmission cases up here for months now - why should our schools close?

WouldBeGood · 02/12/2020 21:29

But is that not unfair on children with exams?

*mine is s1

Lidlfix · 02/12/2020 21:48

Some kids were on round 3 of isolation in early November, others have had teachers isolating- the fairness ship sailed long ago. The most recent survey of parents want exams cancelled which I found surprising . It was also wee reminder)that Mnet/Scotsnet is not always the view of all parents. but where I teach and the views of my pupils and DD feed into my personal desire to have exams

Lidlfix · 02/12/2020 21:48

Go ahead that is.

WouldBeGood · 02/12/2020 22:09

Ah, ok. Like I say, I don’t have a dog in the fight. But ds and o would like to know what’s happening

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/12/2020 11:21

No extension to holidays announced:

NotAnActualSheep · 03/12/2020 11:24

Ah, phew! Glad that's confirmed at last. Thanks waxon

Callisto1 · 03/12/2020 11:55

Thanks! I managed to miss it when I checked the news earlier.

Outsidemum1 · 03/12/2020 12:21

Happy with that cases are low in so many areas ( 35 whole if Highlands I believe) it wouldn't make sense to change their hols.

blowinahoolie · 03/12/2020 12:26

School holidays not being extended. 🙌👌

blowinahoolie · 03/12/2020 12:27

Wax beat me to it🤣

blowinahoolie · 03/12/2020 12:34

Common sense at last from Swinney.

Dinnafashyersel · 03/12/2020 13:09

Agreed blowinahoolie. I did think there was a definite risk of more people choosing to mix and travel if schools closed early. Lots of people now seem to be putting plans on hold rather than risk it given the vaccine is imminent.

Mistressiggi · 03/12/2020 15:40

@Outsidemum1

Happy with that cases are low in so many areas ( 35 whole if Highlands I believe) it wouldn't make sense to change their hols.
What about the tier 4 areas? And of course, people living in the highlands can mix with whoever they want over Christmas. I think it is a bad move but nothing more than I have come to expect from this government. I hope the dc are all getting thermals for Christmas as in January every window I can reach will be open while the chances of infection are so high.
IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 03/12/2020 15:44

So we can see family from the 23rd, but my kids will be in school on the 23rd.

I don't care personally as I don't think we'll do much mixing anyway, but it doesn't entirely make sense.

DollyMixtureLulus · 03/12/2020 16:18

I'm so demoralised tonight. They've no fucking idea of what it's like.

What quality education will be happening on the 22nd December?

I have to spend Christmas alone now. So upset.

WouldBeGood · 03/12/2020 16:27

That’s a shame @DollyMixtureLulus 💐

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 03/12/2020 16:30

That is really shit @DollyMixtureLulus how come?

Sorry if you've explained upthread and I've missed it.
