Just thought I'd start a wee thread for those with DC applying for uni for next year (or indeed applying for themselves) in ase anyone was up for sharing knowledge/support/venting etc.

I have DS1 applying for this year. Still doesn't know where to or what for Confused.

Not done any open days yet and lots now clashing so can't do them all. He wont go alone and wont ask anything or tell us anything about it if he did, so looks like it might be family days out for the next month or so. Dragging DS2 with us as he is currently doing Highers and given his poor Nat 5 results, he needs some motivation to pull his finger out if he wants to go to Uni.

How is everyone else getting on?

Hope your dd's interview went well Groovee Flowers

I'm finding the waiting really difficult since the UCAS applications closed Hmm. Ds got his unconditional for Strathclyde to his least preferred choice as it's his home Uni within a week of applying back at the end of November but still hasn't heard a peep from the other 4 applications bar the acknowledgements of course Sad

2 of those (to Edinburgh) he was already prepared mentally for a long wait as they are notoriously late in offering - but I wasn't expecting Aberdeen and Dundee to take so long. Confused

Ds seems remarkably relaxed about it but, me, on the other hand....every time I hear ds coming downstairs quickly (which is how he came down with his news about Strathclyde), I wonder if he has some news..... Blush

I've checked when the offer holder days are: they range from about the 21st March to 4 April - although Strathclyde doesn't publish a date (says parents and offer holders will be sent invited for the appropriate subjects). Looks like I am going to have to be patient for at least another month Shock

Groovee · 01/02/2018 13:03

Dd said the interview was good. All the people with her were from Glasgow. She felt everyone was on a equal playing field and it was Fair.

Her and grandad had a wee look round Dundee too and she's seriously thinking if she's offered a place that she would like to live and go to uni there.

Superjaggy · 01/02/2018 18:11

Glad your DD had a good interview, Groovee, hopefully she'll get her offer in soon.

My DS has also only had one offer, from Dundee, and an invitation to an open evening for Aberdeen. I know Aberdeen advertised loads of jobs recently (in the Schools and in admin) so perhaps there aren't as many folks available to look at applications at the moment...

1nutcracker · 06/02/2018 12:43

Has anyone's DC had an offer from St Andrews? Are Scottish/EU students last to get offers?

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/02/2018 14:29

1nut DS hasn't applied to StAs but his friend has and hadn't heard anything when I saw him last week last week. In fact his friend hadn't heard anything about any of his applications and was getting worried.

If I remember rightly Dundee were really late last year. We ended up phoning them (ds was applying last year for 2018 entry) but they just said they were working on it. I can't remember the actual date but it was about as late as they can go I think.

ttlshiwwya · 06/02/2018 15:00

Niece waiting for StA too - in fact she's only had one offer so far - Aberdeen. DD says that she's heard of someone she knows outside school with an offer for computing at StA.

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/02/2018 15:04

DS waiting on Dundee and Edinburgh still. He now has 5 offers, 3 unconditional that he applied for and 2 conditional offers to go into 2nd year that he didn't apply for.

Sturmundcalm · 06/02/2018 15:17

DD hasn't heard anything from St Andrew's (or Edinburgh). My DH now has an interview with UHI! He wasn't applying to uni when I first posted on this thread...

prettybird · 06/02/2018 15:26

Ds is still waiting on 4: 2 x Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee. He has an unconditional already from Strathclyde.

We knew that Edinburgh would be late to reply (hopefully to offer Wink) as they are notorious for not even starting to look at applications until the UCAS application process closes mid January. I've also heard that St Andrews are generally "late" too (I honestly can't remember when they offered me - but as that was 40 Shock years ago, it's not really relevant today Blush)

I get the impression that on average, across quite a few of the Unis, Arts and Social Sciences are later in offering than the Science subjects. Sad

Groovee · 06/02/2018 15:49

Dd has had an interview at Dundee and a rejection from Strathclyde. Nothing from Stirling.

A girl at her interview last week said she had heard from Stirling by this time last year.

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/02/2018 18:00

DS just told me he has another unconditional from Dundee - just Edinburgh to go now.

Hopefully everyone will get the news they are looking for soon.

That's brilliant Wax - it's good that he's got options even if he's not very good with choices ConfusedWink

I just wish that ds would hear something from his other applications. Although having said that, he seems to be coping with the uncertainty much better than me Blush I'm We're not expecting Edinburgh until well into March so that means another month of waiting! Shock

Groovee · 06/02/2018 20:15

Great news Wax x

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/02/2018 20:16

thanks pb. He now has various invites to things, we just need to sit down and see what he needs/wants to go to. Don't really want to traipse round everywhere so would be better if he could narrow things down. I'm sure your DS will hear soon. When is the deadline/when do the students need to decide again?

OP posts:
WaxOnFeckOff · 06/02/2018 20:17

I would expect Edinburgh to be a conditional if they offer at all.

OP posts:
Superjaggy · 13/02/2018 18:02

My DS got an unconditional from Stirling today, for Politics. It's not one of his top choices but I'm pleased that he has another one in the bag nevertheless. Just awaiting Aberdeen and Glasgow now... his top choices Confused

Does anyone else have news?

prettybird · 13/02/2018 18:16

Ds is still waiting on 4 Shock 2xEdinburgh (IR and IR/Quantitative Methods), Aberdeen and Dundee.

He seems to be coping with the wait better than me Hmm

prettybird · 13/02/2018 18:22

(Posted by accident) Congratulations to your ds Superjaggy - it's good for them to have options.

And by not having heard from his preferred choices, he shouldn't end up suffering from "unconditionalitis" Wink

OwlMother · 13/02/2018 19:24

Well done to your ds Superjaggy! My ds has a definite case of unconditionalitis. Really would have appreciated the pressure being kept on. He has had unconditional from Strathclyde, Newcastle and Dundee- waiting for Edinburgh (he doesn't want to stay in his hometown anyway) and UCL which was always a stretch and he has now decided the course isn't really him. So he just has to decide between Strathclyde and Newcastle really. And try and keep focussed on school until May.

Superjaggy · 13/02/2018 21:04

Thanks. Sadly my DS' unconditionalitis started the day his Higher results came in... he left school in November. So if he doesn't get in to Aberdeen or Glasgow he'll be heading to Dundee or Stirling whether he likes it or not Wink

Sturmundcalm · 14/02/2018 07:27

DD got an unconditional yesterday from Edinburgh - don't think it's particularly high up her list of options but has still made her all gallus...

Superjaggy · 14/02/2018 19:42

Well done Sturmund's DD! Which course is she hoping to study?

Sturmundcalm · 14/02/2018 20:04

eh... think edinburgh was maths and physics - most of her apps were but there was one that was slightly different, think that was st andrews though

Groovee · 15/02/2018 05:56

Great news Stud x
