Just thought I'd start a wee thread for those with DC applying for uni for next year (or indeed applying for themselves) in ase anyone was up for sharing knowledge/support/venting etc.

I have DS1 applying for this year. Still doesn't know where to or what for Confused.

Not done any open days yet and lots now clashing so can't do them all. He wont go alone and wont ask anything or tell us anything about it if he did, so looks like it might be family days out for the next month or so. Dragging DS2 with us as he is currently doing Highers and given his poor Nat 5 results, he needs some motivation to pull his finger out if he wants to go to Uni.

How is everyone else getting on?

Dd left school today. Dundee locked her out of her account, so trying to get that sorted. 🤦🏻‍♀️. Off to her leavers Ceilidh now. I've lost over 5st and feel fab. Quite a few parents haven't seen me in a year or so! Be interesting to see who notices!

M0RVEN · 26/04/2018 18:18

Dundee uni internet has been hacked so they might have locked out users outside the university . Dunno.

Congrats on the amazing weight loss, hope you and DD have a great time tonight.

Lidlfix · 26/04/2018 18:33

Amazing weight loss Groovee .
DD3 is stressing and forgetting stuff she aced in Prelims Sad. Think her lovely (but anxious ) friendship group are feeding each other's stress. Study leave will help as she prefers to work from home. Lump in my throat seeing S6s in their leavers' hoodies but I am a secret softie!

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/04/2018 18:41

On well done groovee! DS1 still got school tomorrow. He has his hoody but hasn't worn it yet. Lots were coming out in there's when I was picking up DS2 but DS1 was already home by then. I'm hoping to get him to replicate his first day in P1 photo stance in the morning :)

OP posts:
IndigoApple · 26/04/2018 20:34

I'm also planning to replicate P1 photo tomorrow morning! Therefore hoping DD will be wearing uniform and blazer not hoodie! Was all set to bin or burn her uniform this weekend till she reminded me she needs to wear it for exams...

Can't quite believe I'll probably never set foot in the school again!

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/04/2018 21:19

I wish I wasn't setting foot in the school again but unfortunately DS2 is about to go into S6 so another year to go! :(

And rather conveniently Hmm, DS1s blazer is too tight for him so I need to shell out for another one to be worn for about 8 months taking into account holidays, exam leave etc.

OP posts:
IndigoApple · 26/04/2018 21:45

DD has barely worn hers. They didn't get them till after the October week! So I definitely want a photo.

Just been looking at the P1 photos! 😢

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/04/2018 21:49

They start wearing theirs in June when they go back after the exams and they are compulsory so it does get worn, DS1s is immaculate though but if if it doesn't fit DS2 there isn't a lot I can do. £50 down the drain

Groovee · 26/04/2018 22:39

Dd refused to get out of bed for a photo but her friend took a lovely one at the Ceilidh of the 3 of us! Numerous people did double takes at me. And her guidance teacher who retired at Christmas told me she recognised me as the teenager she taught in the 90's 😳.

We all got a tunnocks teacake or caramel log with Groovee's DD's maw or da on it! My dress was loose too! So lovely to watch Dd leave with her friends that she started Nursery with tonight.

Thanks for the info on Dundee uni being hacked x

prettybird · 27/04/2018 09:02

I never bought an S6 blazer as ds said he would only wear one of he was depute head boy. Wink

He let me take a picture of him this morning: first day of Primary to last day of Secondary! Where have the years gone?! Shock

Leaver Assembly is this afternoon and although ds had said initially he didn't want us there (even though parents are invited Confused), he seems to have relented. He's going out afterwards thigh with his friends and mist definitely won't be coming home with us.

The kids are really pissed off because the Leaver hoodies, which were due to arrive this week have been delayed. Although he got an email last night saying that they might arrive some time today (but when? Hmm)

The Prom is sometime in June - not sure the date.

Groovee · 27/04/2018 09:36

We're the first Friday in June for Prom. I had to pay for the leavers hoody in January and they've had them since then. Got a text at 9am on Wednesday telling me I had to pay for the year book that day. Cue staff room hilarity as I tried to work out flipping parent pay!

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/04/2018 09:49

I got my photo this morning :). "Prom" isn't until June though. I don't know what is planned at school for today. I gave him money instead of a packed lunch and told him to just do whatever he wanted as long as he didn't drink and drive!

prettybird · 27/04/2018 10:06

Ds has been muttering something about "fish" I daren't enquire more Wink

It's been the S6s who've organised everything to do with the Year Book, Leavers hoodies and Prom. In fact, according to ds, almost everything had landed on the depute head boy (who really should have been head boy but it's effectively a popularity vote amongst the S6s) as the head boy has done very little Hmm

I think the Head Girl has been a bit more visible.

prettybird · 27/04/2018 22:51

Ds had his fish confiscated Wink. He doesn't know how she did it but even though he was in the centre of a group, the head teacher somehow knew that his plastic bag had something nefarious in it and honed in on him. Grin

She's seen it all good Wink

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/04/2018 23:14

I think it was all fairly civilised at DSs school. His year have always been particularly "good". Some nice photos of them on twitter. DS2s year is a bit more leery so might be less civilised next year.

Friend says there was bother at her DC school (they aren't in 6th year) talk of charges for assaults and vandalism!

OP posts:
prettybird · 28/04/2018 13:48

They were just very lively and loud at the assembly itself.

Not sure quite was ds had been planning on doing with his fish (I think he was planning on slapping a few people with it, cartoon style, as it was a big flat fish, as far as I can deduce) - but I think he got away with it just being confiscated as he is one of the "good boys" - plus dh and I were going to the assembly (could explain why he was suddenly keen on us going Wink)....Hmm

We saw a broken egg on the steps going into the school as we arrived for the assembly - I presume that was from shenanigans earlier in the day. Thhe headteacher was "guarding" the door as we left - but I think that was because there were some young people loitering on the steps to the entrance who were nothing to do with the school Confused

Kids generally just seemed very excitable and they'd obviously spent the morning signing each other's shirts and putting on glitter make up (the boys as well as the girls).

Ds got in about 10.45 (actually called us for a lift home) and is a wee bit worse for wear this morning Wink - a new experience for him Grin lthough, to give him his due, he was up at 9 having a shower (I think he thought that that would revive him - but he ended up going back to bed Hmm)

IndigoApple · 29/04/2018 08:21

Got my photo on Friday morning, blazer was immediately discarded for denim jacket Grin.

There was a hoo-ha at school about the common room walls being written on (despite this being dove every year!) but otherwise they had a good day, all wrote on their shirts then went off to Wetherspoons. DD got home after I went to bed! (disclaimer she is already 18...). The year book is fab. I think tomorrow is going to be an anti climax. No exams for a couple of weeks.

I can't remember my last day at school at all, it was a non-event back then.

prettybird · 29/04/2018 13:16

Ds' school no longer has room for an S6 Common Room Sad ....they just congregate in the Social Area during their free study periods. The depute head girl did comment on the fact that they had "reclaimed" the S6 "bench" in the Social Area (but given that there are over 150 in S6 Shock that is presumably just in principle Wink as of course most of them will be in class at any one time Grin).

The Year Book is late arriving so I've not seen it yet.

IndigoApple · 29/04/2018 13:43

I hope your DS's yearbook is as good as DD's prettybird. Good to put faces to names for people DD has talked about. Also some kids I remember from primary school but haven't seen since then who are barely recognisable! I'm glad I didn't pay ££ for the S6 group photo as it's on the inside of the front cover.

Of course it would've been v interesting as a parent if they had all said what they are doing when they leave school but I guess that's boring so only a few have mentioned it. Lots of in jokes instead!

prettybird · 29/04/2018 13:58

Got to put a few faces to names at the Leavers' Assembly, when they went up one by one to get their Leavers Certificate. But I agree - there were one or two who I'd not seen since primary school (not many as ds was a placing request) who looked totally different. Young men & young women now! Shock

Ds might not make it to the Awards Ceremony as it is held early in the new academic year. Aberdeen Uni starts the first week of September (before most of the other Unis) so it might be a bit too far for him to come back down. This therefore might have been the last opportunity for me to see his school friends en masse.

IndigoApple · 29/04/2018 14:44

DD starts in Dundee on 1 September (well that's Freshers' week). That's only 4 months away! Shock

prettybird · 29/04/2018 14:49

That's technically when ds starts too - at least, that's when he can get into his flat. I suspect he'll only go up on the Sunday, so that he can play for the U18s down here on the Saturday or even the Monday (so he can coach "his" U15 team for their first league game of the season on the Sunday). rugby comes first Wink

His 18th birthday will on his first day of lectures! Shock am trying to stick my head in the sand about the fact that he will be away from home on his 18th

prettybird · 19/05/2018 20:28

Can I check with people: on the SAAS application, do you answer "Yes" or "No" to the question: Do you have dual UK/EU nationality Confused

Of course we currently are both UK and EU citizen not for both longer Sad - but is it wanting to find out if you are also a citizen of another EU country? Confused

Ds doesn't have dual nationality with another EU country, so for the moment I have told him to answer "No" to the question.

Of course, the fact that I am not sure about the answer means I am the most stupid mum ever Hmm

Groovee · 19/05/2018 20:49

I have no idea...

I'm not going to be at home for dd's last exams as I was successful in my interview for the temporary role I started in February. I presumed I would go through PVG and reference checks first but although they are doing those they gave my job share a weeks notice as I can continue on my current ones as already employed by them and start my full hours on the 28th🙈. Feeling guilty about that!

WaxOnFeckOff · 20/05/2018 16:21

Ah that's a point. Need to get DS on to do the SAAS form. Like you pb I think the answer is NO because I think that they are trying to find out id you have UK/EU citizenship but dual with a non-EU country? Like UK and USA or France and Russia or something Confused.

Just been into town with DS, £285 in the optician and then another £125 in Slaters for a prom suit!
