My dd1 is in s4 and about to sit 8 Nat5s. I don't know who is more wound up about it - her or me! (and I'm a teacher!!).

Wondered if there's anyone else out there to hold hands with?

DD is sitting English, Maths, Ghaidlig (Gaelic native speaker), French, History, Art & Design, Physics and Design & Manufacture. First is English on 5th May.

Yes, we had a local election too, I din't realise, I was only expecting two papers.

prettybird · 05/05/2016 11:40

Ds said the same thing about quotes. He said his scary English teacher is very pernickety, but he doesn't think the markers will be as strict so if he gets an "and" for example wrong, that'll be ok. Have I mentioned that his English teacher is scary? Wink

SD seems okay, he's plumped for an early lunch of soup and sandwiches. he has 25 minutes between the papers. So is wondering what he should do? I've suggested snack, toilet and maybe his geography notes Wink

Dd has had a blt for lunch and is now being argumentative. Will be glad when she leaves shortly. School is only 5 mins away, and because of the inservice only allowed in at 12.30pm.

Took her to do her first ever vote. She went in her onesie.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 05/05/2016 12:10

Sorry groovee I am sure it is very frustrating but also hilarious as an onlooker. I took DS with me to the polling station - in his shorts and t-shirt - but he isn't eligible to vote yet.

Groovee · 05/05/2016 12:38

The police came in while we were waiting and one said "are you allowed to wear that?"

She's away after a tantrum about me only having blue pens as she's lost the ones she bought (throws arms up in despair)!!!

Celticlassie · 05/05/2016 12:43

Higher English close reading was pretty easy. Good accessible passages. I thought the essay questions were pretty good too. Smile

OneMagnumisneverenough · 05/05/2016 12:59

Oh dear - we had a last minute - "I don't have any shirts ironed" and then "I can't find my tie" but he has gone now, with a tumble dried shirt and the spare tie I bought for his brother.

Groovee · 05/05/2016 14:08

Oops Magnum

Dd just text saying the close read Nat5 was in Frozen! I replied with "let it go!"

Groovee · 05/05/2016 14:08

Celtic that's good news then!

OneMagnumisneverenough · 05/05/2016 14:11

Ha ha Groovee. DSs exam wasn't starting until half 1. so he will still be engrossed. His paper two doesn't finish until 4.35.

weegiemum · 05/05/2016 15:16

When does Nat5 English finish? Dd1 has made off with her exam timetable so I don't know when she is out?

DS was well warned to text me ASAP afterwards. He "was optimistic" and finished with 10 minutes to go so he could read over and edit. Stress levels down until Tuesday's Higher Graph Comm Grin

OneMagnumisneverenough · 05/05/2016 15:41

I'm not sure weegie is it on the school website? Was the official start 1pm? Our school didn't start until 1.30 and they are due to finish at 4.20 I think, but Ds has an extended break as he is typing his and doesn't finish until 4.35. They adjusted the times to make sure that the exam is on the gap between papers when the school kicks out at 3.05 today.

Groovee · 05/05/2016 15:53

15.50 I believe Weegie. Just awaiting Dd coming home.

On the plus side we have a working oven again yay

rogueantimatter · 05/05/2016 15:54

DS thinks he has got a "high B" but I think that's probably optimistic.

In Q1 he cited use of the word 'highly' and rhetorical Q's . Would the Q's count as rhetorical? - not a rhetorical question.....

He suggested that 'satire' in lines 63-66. ?

Sorry, but Julia Hartley-Brewer?! - Author of the second passage. Am I right in thinking she writes for the Daily Fail? I heard her on R4 standing up for the new SATS for 6+7YOs in England. Harsh wumman IMO.

DS drank his coffee but his bag was on the floor when he got out of the exam and the flask had smashed. Teenagers have zero common sense and don't take advice. It's lucky we love them.

Groovee · 05/05/2016 15:55

Dd just phoned. She said the close reading was easy! She found the second paper reasonable. She was worried it would be harder.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 05/05/2016 16:00

I will go info whatsoever from DS - I can tell you now that he will say "It was alright" and nothing more. So this is all very useful.

Geography tomorrow....

OneMagnumisneverenough · 05/05/2016 16:01

get no. that should have said.

rogueantimatter · 05/05/2016 16:06

I sympathise Magnum. With DS, things are usually "fine".

YoScience · 05/05/2016 16:20

DD has text to say she didn't think she has done that well. Found it pretty tough, but to be honest she is always pretty negative when she first comes out of an exam and starts talking to everyone! Grin

Geography tomorrow here too!

Groovee · 05/05/2016 16:24

Oh Yo hope she's ok. Dd's strength is English. With maths I may have a sobbing mess.

weegiemum · 05/05/2016 16:30

Dd1 phoned - felt went really well - she should do well in English, its one of her best subjects.

Anyone with Geog exams tomorrow, I'm a geography teacher with 10 years of marking higher under my belt (not doing it this year!) so any last minute panic let me know!

Dd1 is now off until Maths - her exams are nicely spaced out until the very end when its 3 inside 3 days!

Oh dear, after 4 fire alarms on Friday I've just had a text from the school to say that there's been another alarm during the Nat 5 English exam. My Dd isn't due at any exams until the 11th, but I suspect there's going to be a bit of a theme...

Groovee · 05/05/2016 16:45

Eek at fire alarms!

My niece phoned her mum and sounded really upset. Her mum starts panicking and it turns out she was just pretending! AngryGrin.
