My dd1 is in s4 and about to sit 8 Nat5s. I don't know who is more wound up about it - her or me! (and I'm a teacher!!).

Wondered if there's anyone else out there to hold hands with?

DD is sitting English, Maths, Ghaidlig (Gaelic native speaker), French, History, Art & Design, Physics and Design & Manufacture. First is English on 5th May.

Well DD1 did .?????? in her exam ...can't get any more out of her than
OK - I suppose... she did finish it and she could answer -'most of it - I guess'
I sent her a text about 30 mins then another an hour after it had finished to ask her how it had gone and she ignored them -I also asked her if she was waiting for the school bus and she didn't answer but then did
I have decided that I have no choice but let her get on with it ...(at the very worse she is a Feb birthday and not deferred - she could do S4 again if she absolutely messed every one up)
hiding our school is on inset too but they have arranged for the morning buses to run and then passes for them to get a service bus home...don't they have to if you live more than 2 miles away or something? (I think some of them where there is only one of them in a village so not worth running a bus are getting taxis provided)

Roll on the end of May ...

DS1 doesn't eat porridge or weetabix. Think he is currently on Weetos. He'll have that followed with a slice of toast with peanut butter and jam with a glass of fruit juice.

Lunch will either be toast and egg or mackerel sandwiches with tabasco again . and a banana.... The boy has weird tastes.

He has a granola bar, a snack tube of raisins and some breakfast biscuits laid out to take with him for the break between papers.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 04/05/2016 21:46

We live about 7 miles away but on placing requests and very little public transport options so we are on our own which is fair enough as it was our choice. Doesn't stop me feeling bitter about the fact that the kids that bullied him can walk to and from school and I've had to transport him for 4 years....

hidingwithwine · 04/05/2016 21:53

We are in a wee village with a crappy bus service. He thinks he might get free travel on the service bus but it's so hit and miss we wouldn't chance it.

prettybird · 04/05/2016 22:03

Even though ds is a placing request, it's still only a 20 minute walk Smile

cheeseandcrackers77 · 04/05/2016 22:16

Good luck to everyone's DC sitting exams.

DD is just going into S4 so we have all this to deal with next year. She has had the results for most of S3 exams so it looks like N5 for most subjects.

prettybird · 04/05/2016 22:23

Ds was telling me that he feels sorry for those of his friends who're only doing 4 Nat 5s (might be 5) but one of them is PE. Because there's no written exam for PE, that puts them below the threshold for full study leave even though they're doing as many Nat 5s as others who do get all 5 weeks off. Confused

OneMagnumisneverenough · 04/05/2016 22:32

Thank you cheese and well done to your DD. My DS2 started 4th year on Tuesday doing his maximum of 7 nat 5s. He is quite fired up and already getting excited about his English Nat 5 essay - he wants to do it on the byzantine empire - he is a weirdo.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 04/05/2016 22:35

I think all ours got full leave - just to get the school nice and empty for a few weeks :)

Groovee · 05/05/2016 00:43

Dd has started biting her nails again. I bought her Kalms tonight.

hidingwithwine · 05/05/2016 07:04

DD goes into S4 next month. We've still to get her report for this year and our parents evening is the end of this month. She's on track for her 7 N5's - but then again, DS did 8 and only got 6....

He's up, in the shower and "music" is blaring away, probably about to wake his siblings. I don't want to get washed and dressed and have to go and endure and inset day stamps foot Wink

prettybird · 05/05/2016 09:12

Good luck to everyone sitting English Nat 5 or Higher today Smile

OneMagnumisneverenough · 05/05/2016 09:21

Thanks Prettybird . and the same from me.

Good morning.

Very envious of YoScience! DS claimed to have learnt some quotes but didn't know them well at all after dinner. I don't know if it's 'just' laziness, over-confidence or lack of understanding about what it means to have knowledge at your fingertips; maybe all three.

He had quorn sausages, baked beans, tomato, egg and two slices of toast + orange juice for breakfast. He has a similar breakfast three days a week - on the days when there are five periods before lunch and Saturdays. He has an apple and a flask of coffee for the break between papers. The flask is in a thick plastic bag in a lunch box! I thought he would carry it in his hand and set it on his desk but no, it'll be lobbed put on top of the lockers outside the exam room apparently..... Oh dear.

I used to have a dextrose and glucose sweet 40-45 minutes before the end of the longer exams. And read very summarised notes last thing at night in bed and just before going out to the exam. I left the revision until relatively late but then really went for it. It worked reasonably well, but neither of my two take that approach. Soo frustrating.

rogueantimatter · 05/05/2016 09:27

I'm looking forward to hearing from the posters how the English went. At least it'll be 'ticked off' the list.

weegiemum · 05/05/2016 09:33

Good luck to all for English today!

Dd1 is away, she decided she'd rather go in early and work in the school library than risk being late! - she is the Queen of Lateness! Had toast for breakfast and left fairly cheerful - she's nervous but quite keen just to get started now I think.

Ds has just left for school. God knows what he's going to do when he gets there - his exam isn't until this afternoon.

He says he's going to have water for lunch and nothing between the papers Hmm

OneMagnumisneverenough · 05/05/2016 09:55

I've just nipped out an voted and took DS with me for a bit of fresh air and to buy some mints. He's got until 1ish to fill - no idea what he is going to do. He seems relaxed enough. I asked about quotes, he says he doesn't need them to be exact, just be able to paraphrase. We've talked about technique, he's had weetos, fruit juice and toast with jam. I've told him to sort out his bag, find a watch that isn't a smart watch, lay out his uniform and have a poo.

prettybird · 05/05/2016 10:04

Haven't been to vote myself yet - will probably go this evening with dh. Ds is most pissed off that he can't vote even though he has strong opinions and he has friends who're old enough to vote but might not bother. Hmm

OneMagnumisneverenough · 05/05/2016 10:13

Had a chat with Labour party member DS2 this morning where he said it didn't matter who I voted for as SNP would win anyway and what difference could one vote make......safe to say he is now more enlightened about the power of each individual vote mattering. :o

rogueantimatter · 05/05/2016 10:25

Ooh yes - the regional vote. Seven mps per region. It's not a matter of the SNP 'winning' as such.

DS 17 is stressing about who to vote for - he thinks there's no way of knowing the truth as everyone contradicts each other and they're all passionate . Before the UK election he opened the door to someone who asked him if he would like to have the vote and he said no. He doesn't understand about things like taxes so why would he want to vote?

I feel for your DS prettybird - how frustrating for him. I told DS that he shouldn't let thoughtless young people have more of an influence than him so he is going to vote. Don't know who for though.

rogueantimatter · 05/05/2016 10:27

OneMagnum - that's very encouraging about the quotes. I'm sure your son is right - specific words must be much much better than nothing.

YoScience · 05/05/2016 11:18

DD has left for school now too. Had a mad panic in work when she didn't reply to my text and I though she had gone back to bed!! I think I am more uptight than her!

Apparently she has heard (not sure how) that the Higher English close reading paper was quite easy, so she now has high hopes that the Nat 5 one will be the same!

DD was saying the same about the quotes, that they don't have to be word perfect, as long as key phrases/ideas are there.

I went to vote on the way to work this morning, I was the only person there, and was clearly still feeling a bit stressed at leaving DD, as the 3 papers in 3 different boxes, some with a cross and one with a numerical system nearly tipped me over the edge!! Grin

OneMagnumisneverenough · 05/05/2016 11:26

I only had two papers and it was a cross on each paper - do you have a local thing going on too?
