The Forth Road Bridge is totally closed...

...what a nightmare that is going to be.

I live in Fife and DH works in Edinburgh. He gets the train but now they will be mobbed. Not good for businesses as a whole. The Kincardine Bridge will be mobbed and the roads around there are not great.

I hope they fix it soon.

I hope so too! DH uses the FRB although doesnt have to go that way today. I heard a rumour (and that's all it is!) that it might be closed for up to 3 weeks. If that's the case it will be mayhem Shock

ginmakesitallok · 04/12/2015 07:36

I heard that rumour too Serena. Scot rail are saying that they aren't guaranteeing travel from fife 😯

SerenaJoy · 04/12/2015 07:37

Great service from Scotfail as usual!

RoseDog · 04/12/2015 07:39

My dp has just drove from Grangemouth to Dundee leaving Grangemouth at 6 and says the roads are mad with traffic this morning compared to the rest of the week!

cashewnutty · 04/12/2015 07:41

Closed for three weeks!!! That is awful. Especially with the people trying to go Christmas shooing/added deliveries that this time of the year brings.

I've just heard this on the UK national news (I'm not in Scotland).

They said that it will be closed for 24 hours. So perhaps more news on extent of problem and how long to fix it later today?

SerenaJoy · 04/12/2015 07:56

Yes AuntieStella, there will hopefully be more info later. A commenter on the article I read said the emergency services had been told three weeks, but could all be rumour so take that with a big pinch of salt!

ginmakesitallok · 04/12/2015 07:57

Feck, I hadn't even thought about delivery issues....

tilliebob · 04/12/2015 08:11

It's a total nightmare and really shows how we take the FRB for granted. We have 3 colleagues who come over to Fife to work every day who are facing a much longer journey to work. DH goes over the FRB to work but luckily isn't on shift again until next week.

Some of the comments on FB are just ridiculous - like the powers that be want it to be closed, it's for safety reasons FFS.

cdtaylornats · 04/12/2015 10:29

Delivery could be a real problem as Amazon has a fulfilment centre in Dunfermline.

RoseDog · 04/12/2015 10:35

I am at the right side of the bridge for amazon delivery but dont have any plans to buy anything from them.

Whatdoidohelp · 04/12/2015 10:37

Amazon are definitely going to be hit by this. I feel for all the people who commute to he opposite side of the bridge, what a nightmare.

AuntieStella · 04/12/2015 11:24

Oh dear, just had a news pop up saying it'll be closed until into the New Year following discovery of defective steel work.

HuckfromScandal · 04/12/2015 12:18

Shut for 3 weeks!!
This is going to be a logistical nightmare. I live in Perth and work in Edinburgh at least once a week.

SauvignonPlonker · 04/12/2015 12:28

Nightmare! I'm community-based NHS, living in Edinburgh & working in Fife. DP works away down south, no family support nearby, really dreading the next few weeks.

SerenaJoy · 04/12/2015 13:16

It's just unbelievable! I know safety has to come first but it's going to cause problems for so many people Shock

Lyndie · 04/12/2015 13:22

Oh dear I won't be able to go to the ILs as often over the festive period. Grin

Nightmare for commuters though, sympathies.

Did you see the picture of the cracks though? How long has that been there? Confused

museumum · 04/12/2015 13:25

Scotrail need to really step up here. It should be a complete bonus for them if they can lay one about have carriages.

Feeches · 04/12/2015 13:27

I feel for the poor Fifers who work in Edinburgh. The commute can be arduous at the best of times.

ginmakesitallok · 04/12/2015 13:29

Haven't seen any pics of the cracks- link?

Lyndie · 04/12/2015 14:01

It's on the FRB Twitter. Sorry I can't seem to link it.

DonkeyOaty · 04/12/2015 14:20

Nightmare.

Perihelion · 04/12/2015 14:28

Forthroadbridge.org has the pic of crack and a diagram of where it is. ( As well as traffic cameras showing no traffic.)

Eigg · 04/12/2015 14:34

This is going to be a nightmare next week.

I don't use the Bridge but I commute via the M9/M8 every day and it's already hideous in rush hour.
