Do men really prefer it if we shave down there?

And if so is it the fault of porn?

I am quite comfortable with my au natural look but as soon as I get a partner I feel like it all has to come off. Hence cringy shaving/hair removal cream sessions, regrowth and in my case unsightly sores. Sorry if tmi. I am too chicken to wax.

It's such a shame that men don't love that part of us the way it is or do they.

I do tend to feel better after a trim but not a full wax.

I kind of want to look like a women and not prepubescant.

what's your view?

I wouldn't shave or pluck for any man. Nor would I require him to wax his bollocks. It's nonsense.

I wouldn't fancy a man who didn't like pubic hair to be frank.

Remotew · 07/02/2010 22:19

Yes, I would say grab it all and give it a good cut with the scissors now and again. Trim the sides too.

strawberrykate · 07/02/2010 22:19

My DH is very vocal on this one - he regularly rants about women looking childlike and how wrong society is to encourage it. Last week he told me 'most men must be pervs'. I'm more laissez-faire on the subject, but I do like the comfort on the natural but trimmed feel. He is turned on by hair so I'd be mad to remove it.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 07/02/2010 22:21

rhinestone, can't speak for everyone but I trim. I leave about 1.5cm hair (I don't measure!) I trim it just before my period each month and it really does feel like I am fresher.

defineme · 07/02/2010 22:23

My dh is 46 and thinks it's hilarious that some women remove all their pubes.

I think it's just fashion- younger men who have grown up with modern porm think that's what normal looks like. When dh was a teen catching the odd glimppse of a dirty mag all the women had hair.

I do my bikini line if I'm going swimming, like I do arms and legs-all fashion really isn't it? All the different nationalities of women on the French campsite I was at last summer seemed to have a different take on it.

I think the access to hardcore porn that the internet provides is very worrying and I think it has contributed to this, but conversely I think they're separate issues.

BertieBotts · 07/02/2010 22:29

Yes I do trim which is what I meant by not liking it being longer.

Have also used a man's electric razor before - ie the kind for beards, which you can adjust so that the blade is nowhere near the skin! Worked very well for a trim

LadyGooGoo · 07/02/2010 22:31

Can;t wait until fashion comes full circle and we're all posting threads like

"How can I make my bush more full and lush?"

Think 70s porn should make a comeback

LadyGooGoo · 07/02/2010 22:32

Not the porn, just the pubes

LadyGooGoo · 07/02/2010 22:33

Sounds like quote of the week for Zoo/Nuts

letsblowthistacostand · 07/02/2010 22:36

After extensive research, I can confirm that most men (esp americans, euros not so fussed (or maybe more polite)) do prefer less hair.

I have an electric trimmer.

winnybella · 07/02/2010 22:38

I shave off underneath- once in a while, when I can be bothered- as I think it's nicer for oral for dp. Always leave the hair in front though.
I left a tiny strip once and he wasn't into it, really.
In the end, I think you need to find a compromise ie if you had long hair (like me) and they would get in the way, so to speak, then I don't think it's demeaning to trim/ shave.

Spidermama · 07/02/2010 22:40

My mum keeps insisting on letting me know that she has lost all her pubic hair since the menopause.

If it's not the pre-pubescent look you desire, maybe you shaving-type women are going for the post menopausal look?

Rhinestone · 07/02/2010 22:41

Thank you for the clarification on trimming, now worried that DH is secretly at my untrimmed lady-bits!

Has anyone ever tried the laser removal by the way? I'm put off by the expense but it is supposed ot be permanent.

heQet · 07/02/2010 22:44

I would imagine that most men are just so overjoyed to be getting some that they wouldn't hop out of bed and say "nah, changed me mind" if they got a good look and saw that you'd waxed the lot off or had a strip down the middle or a short back and sides or had died it blue or had taken a razor and drawn a scale copy of the mona lisa down there!

MarineIguana · 07/02/2010 22:46

Oh Spidermama, boak! - that is exactly the kind of thing my mum goes on about as well.... why can't she take note of the horrified look on my face and stop it?

I feel a bit squeamish about the thought of no pubes in general though. I almost fell over in horror when I saw one beauty salon treatment that involved waxing it all off, then having some "swarovski crystals applied in the design of your choice". I mean... who? why?

Remotew · 07/02/2010 22:47

heQet, good point but it depends on the man. The ones I meet can be choosy. OK need to change the quality of the men I meet.

Missus84 · 07/02/2010 22:49

God I would never be bothered to wax or shave it all off! I rarely do my legs as it is

I have never had a boyfriend who has expressed a strong opinion either way.

Spidermama · 07/02/2010 22:49

at the crystals. Horrible.

MarineIgunana my mum bursts into the loo when I'm, cleaning my teeth and goes for a wee, letting out a couple of farts while she's at it. It's really horrifying. I tell her off but she doesn't give a flying toss.

MarineIguana · 07/02/2010 23:19

Mine pads around the house late at night in a skimpy nightie saying things like "Oh this nightie doesn't really cover my bum, does it" in front of DP

heQet · 07/02/2010 23:22

You are kidding me? You should get your dp to say "No, it doesn't, but at your age things are generally quite saggy. Don't worry about it."

MarineIguana · 07/02/2010 23:25

DP just tries to hide

heQet · 07/02/2010 23:25

Please make him say that.

I'll PAY him to say that.

Imagine if big 70's style bushes came back into fashion. All the people that spent a fortune lasering off their pubes in the noughties would have to buy Mirkins.

Eurostar · 08/02/2010 00:29

I don't know what most men prefer but seems that young men these days expect very little in the way of pubic hair and that is down to porn I would say. Just like they tend to think that all women should be into anal and, worryingly, deep throating too.
Overall, I feel really sorry for young teens these days who see hardcore porn sent around on their mobiles/emails before they've even had a chance at a first kiss.
That's another thread though.

Nothing like grey pubes to focus the mind that one is ageing and wonder if shaving is a good idea after all...
