Do men really prefer it if we shave down there?

And if so is it the fault of porn?

I am quite comfortable with my au natural look but as soon as I get a partner I feel like it all has to come off. Hence cringy shaving/hair removal cream sessions, regrowth and in my case unsightly sores. Sorry if tmi. I am too chicken to wax.

It's such a shame that men don't love that part of us the way it is or do they.

I do tend to feel better after a trim but not a full wax.

I kind of want to look like a women and not prepubescant.

what's your view?

I use a quim-trim (my very own beard trimmer). Can set it at a no.1 or a no.2 haircut depending in the weather. Shaving or waxing is too bumpy and itchy ime, but Tend Skin does help with the bumps.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 08/02/2010 08:24

quim trim? brilliant. Is it like clippers? [wondering if clippers would work...]

Janos · 08/02/2010 09:33

Having just read the OP, I would say there are as many opinions about this as there are men.

But I do think any man who expects you to look a certain way 'down there' or thinks that pubic hair is disgusting has severe 'issues' and is best avoided IMO.

chopstheduck · 08/02/2010 09:39

surely giving it a no.1 would make it stubbly!!

I don't have any, and dh and I prefer it that way. I don't think its anything to do with porn, because in porn they generally have a bit of a landing strip at least!

It's not that much hassle if you never have any there, I jsut shave it when I shave my legs, and def do not get rashes or anything! It feels cleaner and nicer.

Rumbled · 08/02/2010 10:17

Some do, some don't. I wouldn't shack up with a man who prefers it bald/nearly bald with a landing strip, because I won't do that to my bits. It feels uncomfortable, physically and psychologically, and takes ridiculous amounts of faffing for an effect that lasts about a day before the discomfort of the stubbly plucked chicken look kicks in. Not worth it (IMHO of course).

I have a lot of dark hair, so I do rein in my bikini line, and have a trim every now and then because it would get very long/bushy otherwise, which doesn't feel comfortable/clean. And I do trim it shorter up the centre for access. But essentially, it's a neat triangle of hair; a compromise between long-enough-to-plait au naturelle (because mine probably would be that unruly if I left it completely untended) and high-maintenance baldness. Current man loves it like this.

So really it depends on the bloke, and I think it's better to find one who likes your fanjo hair how you like it, rather than a guy who'd like you to coif it in a way that you don't feel comfortable with.

wastingaway · 08/02/2010 10:43

Crikey, as if I haven't got enough things to do?!

Trimming it will make the hairs blunt, and therefore scratchier than a nice fluffy bush.

I do get the ones that cross the thigh crease boundary though.

lordkensal · 22/03/2010 10:26

I reckon the whole world has gone hair removal crazy. I think women should keep their topiary in a nice neat and tidy manner. A complete Hollywood on a woman can be a bit unnerving for some guys. But a Brazilian looks nice.

But let us not forget - it works both ways. I think men should manage their man carpets a bit. I'm not one for the complete hairless look for men - but a bit of male grooming is only fair - afterall the plucking and waxing women have to go through for us.

You'd be surpised how massive Male Hair Removal is (check out www.malehair-removal.com) it covers all aspects of Male Hair Removal and Men's Grooming and just goes to show us men are becoming as obsessed with our topiary control as women!

purplepeony · 22/03/2010 12:11

I didn't think that 70s bushes had gone out of fashion! I still have mine.

I think this is an age thing. No women of my generation -late 40s- 50s- bother shaving their pubes- just a trim when swimming etc etc.

Duffet · 22/03/2010 13:12

I tend to view all my body hair as a whole rather than concentrate on my pubic hair when deciding what to remove. As I got older, the amount of hair I have everywhere increased and got thicker and darker and I even grew some bristly bits of hair on my chin etc. I never had this or hair on my belly button or round my bum hole before the age of about 24, but now I do. So anyway, if I removed all my pubic hair I think that asside from whether or not a bloke would like it, it just would not suit me because I would have more hair elsewhere. So I just pluck, wax or shave here and there but not in a stylized way, just like tending to a garden! Sometimes I have more and sometimes less. But I do wax my bum hole because I when I wash in the shower I do not like the feel of it. God knows what I'll do when I can't bend round to get at it any more But personally, I like to feel womanly and I think I look pretty attractive and sexy with hair down there. But my friend and her partner remove all their pubic hair because they prefer the feel of each other like this.

Ladyscratt · 22/03/2010 14:01

I pull out mine with tweezers, but only to make it neat, not pull all of it out. That would take far too long.

As long as it is tidy but not bald and not gorilla like then I am happy and DH does not complain.

BenHer · 22/03/2010 19:28

I personally prefer it waxed or trimmed very short.I hate to see good food ruined with too much garnish.

poshsinglemum · 22/03/2010 19:32

I'm not arsed if a man has removed hair from that area and I would find it odd if a man shaved his legs or under arms but I hate hairy backs!

Ah, I see we have been infiltrated by the filth-seeking masses. Bloody daily mail

picmaestress · 22/03/2010 19:50

Shaving is crackers - ew. Very itchy and you get ingrown hairs >boak

Maggie00 · 22/03/2010 19:52

I feel sorry for the generation that feels they have to wax the whole lot bare. The pornofication of society. Don't get me started.

tatt · 22/03/2010 20:04

My husband is unhappy with the idea of shaving it all off as stubble isn't comfortable. He also knows that if he asked me to wax he'd have to go first and no way would he be up for it. He's not a young man and he doesn't need to rely on porn for his sex life

Totally agree with Janos - I'd avoid any man who wasn't happy for me to do what I want.

OP - seems to me that men in happy relationships either aren't fussed or prefer hair. The people who say men prefer it all off rarely seem to have stayed with the men they describe.

chegirlWILLbeserene · 22/03/2010 20:05

At my lovely niece's baby shower a bunch of them was discussing the best time to fit in the waxing before the birth!

WTF?

Am I that old?

I am also loving all these new adverts for deoderant that talk about having beautiful and healthy and sexy armpits.

Whats the next body part we will be made to feel anxious about not being perfect?

Is there anything left?

assumetheposition · 22/03/2010 20:08

chegirl - I had exactly the same thought when I saw that ad last night. I've never given a second thought to how sexy my armpits make me feel.

However, neither had it ever entered my head to wax, shave or do anything else to my nether regions. Not entirely sure DH has given it much thought either (I shall ask him).

I know I'm naive and it is all the rage these days (I'm not even 35 yet but I just don't get it.

templemaiden · 22/03/2010 20:10

Personally, I usually shave the bits that actually encroach onto my thighs and I keep the rest trimmed with scissors to about 1.5 cm. I use my fingers as a measure, i.e. I take a clump of hair and hold it between my first and second fingers and trim anything that peeks above.

I briefly went out with one guy who, the first time we had sex, afterwards looked with something akin to horror at my au naturel look which I admittedly hadn't tended to in a while and said "you really need to sort that out you know!"

That was one of the what turned out to be several reasons why we didn't last very long.

Mind you, he did offer to lend me his trimmers.

ifancyashandy · 22/03/2010 20:24

Personally, I've got shed loads of dark hair (sorry if TMI), so I shave the undercarriage and sides. And trim the bits upfront. Wider than Brazillian landing strip though, as I find that makes your hips look bloody miles apart (think about it!). A neat triangle seems to surfice. New bloke is a bit of a hippy and was a bit surprised at first but I certainly enjoyed the benefits of his ease of (oral) access!!

And Venus Divine was designed for the lady garden! It's wide head means no nicks. Simples!

HARRY123 · 22/03/2010 20:57

I love lots of pussy hair Shaved / part shaved is a turn off for me - don't shave if you don't want to!

Tiler888 · 15/08/2017 22:47

Yes all men prefer shaven below

Tiler888 · 15/08/2017 22:49

Wouldn't go down on any woman with hair down there
