On my first grown up trip abroad (the UK). One of those holiday romances that we are all warned about

I was 19, he was 23. But it was another 10 years before I finally got my emigration sorted and we could marry and live together in the same country. Have now been married 16 years.

JamieJay · 07/05/2009 19:33

In pub at colleagues leaving do - I was 24, he was 27.

RustyBear · 07/05/2009 19:48

My first year at university - I was in a friend's room when the girl who had lived there the year before came round with one of DH's friends to see who was there now - we all ended up back in DH's Hall having coffee.

Out of that group, three pairs got married & 35 years later we're all still married, plus another of the girls is married to the best friend of one of the men.

And DD is now at the same university, living in the Hall that DH was in - but when they get together, they tend to drink vodka these days, not coffee...

Niftyblue · 07/05/2009 19:53

At the friday disco

LittleMonkeysMummy · 07/05/2009 19:54

DH and I met on a blind date through a mutual friend. I was 22 and he was 28. Been together for 8 years now and expecting DC2.

emmabemmasmom · 07/05/2009 19:54

DH and I met online on a chat site (natalie Freeserve! lol). I was coming to the UK to go to Uni and wanted to talk to people before I came over.

I came. We met. Engaged in 6 months

Now I live here and we are about to have our second DD

Oh, and I was 20 and he was 21.

ExtraFancy · 07/05/2009 20:42

In the Dublin Castle in Camden - I was 19, he was 20. He said "Are you a Manics fan? Have you got a spare fag?" and that, as they say, was that.

We'll have been together for 10 years in September

cheshirekitty · 07/05/2009 21:23

At a party at a RAF station. I was 24, he was 23. We got engaged 2 weeks later. Been married 22 years now.

LemonTea · 07/05/2009 21:27

Met my dp on my 31st birthday on a hockey pitch....get yourslef out there. He was 31 too. Twas lust at first sight (for both of us) and then luuurve a few months later. Still going nearly 10 years and 2 dc's later.

I am also suprised at the young uns on here. All of the people I know met their partners post 25 yrs at least.... but it is v. romantic.

stillenacht · 07/05/2009 21:39

ah piximon - i recall the Venue vereeeee well

slug · 08/05/2009 14:53

The Venue, alas, is now wall to wall tribute bands. DH misspent much of his youth there and has many a tale to tell.

Flynnie · 08/05/2009 15:17

In the pub. I was very drunk and for the first time decided to go for what I wanted(dh).
I was 19, he was 34 and rather shocked and bemused.
nearly ten years on he is just as bemused as blissfully happy as me.

Bettymum · 08/05/2009 15:46

At a fancy dress party, I was a cowgirl and he was an Indian .
Everyone told me to steer clear of him but seven years later we've been married for two and a half years and have one DD. I was almost 31, he was 33 and (almost) divorced.

Wheelybug · 08/05/2009 15:51

through friends (I lived with his housemate's girlfriend). I was 22 and he was 25.

blissa · 08/05/2009 19:00

He was a friend of someone I knew, I'd seen him around and not thought much of him, but then he came into the garage where I worked one evening and we got chatting. I was 17 and he was 24, that was nearly 11 years ago!

MillieMummy · 08/05/2009 19:06

First day at work at a new job and new boss said to me "this is xxxx, get to know each other as you will be working together closely". Together now for almost 13 years, married for 10 and 2 DC's, still know the ex-boss and thank her everytime I see her !

MillieMummy · 08/05/2009 19:07

.....I was 27 and he was 31 !

elliepac · 08/05/2009 19:10

CHristmas Eve at the pub, I was 18 he was 21. 13 years together, married for 7, 2 DCs 5 and 1. Makes me feel old when i type that though!

TheArmadillo · 08/05/2009 19:19

At school - in same year but was divided into 2 and we were in different halves.

Came across him at about 12/13 and though we had common interests I thought he was a bit of a prat.

Same friendship group in 6th form and got together at 17.

Moved in together when we left school.
Engaged a year later.

Now been together 9 years and 1 ds - but still not married.

Was a bit up and down for first few years as I definately didn't want to settle down young (had never planned to get married and have kids) but he clung on and I'm glad he did.

Most of my friends and acquaintances met their dp at or shortly after leaving school. Though growing up I always thought it was weird.

Liskey · 08/05/2009 22:52

Met DH whilst I was at University - he'd left the year before and was visiting friends who I'd gone round to see as well. He walked through the door and I thought he was gorgeous and he thought the same but we didn't say much. He later wrote me a letter asking me out as he lived 100 miles away in Yorkshire.

That was 15 years ago and I was 21 and he was 23.
