Men who hang up repeatedly

Does anyone have any experience of a man sending a mean text and when u call to get an explanation he repeatedly hangs up on you or does anyone know the reasoning behind such behaviour? I mean why do they do this what response are they after or trying to do? Also they claim to not want to end it and keep you in their life so it’s a break up. Thanks

The reasoning behind his behaviour is because he is an arsehole, who is keeping you on a string.

cut that string and get rid.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 23/09/2026 08:39

It means they aren’t fit to be in a relationship.

Stop trying to understand him, and start looking for better options.

Mylovelygreendress · 23/09/2026 08:42

Why would you repeatedly phone if he keeps hanging up ?

BigBrownBoogyingBear · 23/09/2026 08:44

He is doing this because it leaves you feeling upset, unsettled and uncertain. He likes making you feel this way. It gives him a nice feeling of power and control.

whippersnapper55 · 23/09/2026 08:44

Why phone him after he's sent you a mean text? Bin him off!

Keroppi · 23/09/2026 08:46

Obviously controlling and twattish behaviour. Why do you need to know why they do it? He's a dickhead, that's why. Block him and enjoy the peace.
It's designed to make you feel unstable and to keep trying to dance for his attention and to stop doing things he doesn't like eg punishing you

GiveOverRover · 23/09/2026 08:46

Don't call men to ask for an explanation to their text. Read it what it says, with your own eyes, and take it at face value, and act accordingly. Block them.

Don't give them access to your ears and your brain so they can fill it with fuckery and tell you you're getting it wrong and it's all your fault. That way madness lies.

Get rid of them, stay away from them at the first sign of this bullshit. He likely sends you the text knowing that it's going to poke a reaction and sits back and waits for the call. Call comes, he laughs to himself ahh here she is, answers and then cuts the call. Goes and cracks open a beer and lights a fag and tells his mate he's got you on the hook whenever he wants you.

Don't do it.

LeaveMeBee · 23/09/2026 08:47

Narcissistic childish mind-games.

Why are you accepting this?
Even the fact he's sending mean texts...about what and why??

Just WTF

Because we’re married with 2 children and he’s working away. I woke up to several rude text messages and I called to get an explanation as I had done nothing wrong. I was so upset & shocked that I just can’t stop calling because every phone call he says 1 word & hangs up. I just wanted him to explain what was going on. It’s really frustrating as we are married not dating

He behaves this way because he gets off on the pain of others. Do not engage with this man.

You've got your answer, don't call again. Wait for him to come home, decide what you want to do based on the content of his messages. Do that. He's behaviour is his choice, you don't get an explanation or a reason, you just need to take it for what it is and decide what you're going to do about it. What do you want?

He texted me yesterday saying I’m a bitch. I called him to get an explanation yesterday but he hung up. Then he video called at night (to speak to the kids) but I didn’t answer so he called my daughter on her phone. I didn’t answer as I was so upset at being called a bitch & shocked he didn’t apologise. Then today I woke up to a text saying I’m a sick person and I will deal with the consequences of not answering his call today. We are married but he’s working away

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 23/09/2026 08:52

I find giving no response at all is the best way.

If he's texting to wind you up, it just rewards him if you reply. He can behave as he does knowing you will get more and more upset. I'd text, rather than call anyway, but a nice big thumbs up just about covers it usually.

You can argue it out when he's back.

Well that took a turn. I'd honestly think he had lost his mind and go to the police with the threat of consequences message and say you're worried for your safety.

When is he due home and what's your living situation?

He means that he’s going to ignore my calls which he did when I tried calling he just hung up so I stopped calling. He’s not due back until a month.

Gosh, I’m sorry! It didn’t occur to me you were already stuck with him. The advice remains though- I’d be organising my way out.

Being married to him doesn’t oblige you to fix him. He doesn’t sound safe to be around. Is this behaviour new or unusual?

OriginalSkang · 23/09/2026 08:55

Do you have any reason to think he might have psychosis?

If not then you very clearly need to make plans to separate.

Dery · 23/09/2026 08:55

He sounds abusive and dangerous. And “why” is the wrong question. That just leads to excuses and justifications of horrible behaviour. The important questions are “what is he doing?” and “how do you feel about it?”

PickAChew · 23/09/2026 08:56

Just block the twat. Life's too short.

Thanks, he does this when we argue. He won’t talk it through he just runs away hence the hanging up. When he’s in a good mood he’s fine but he’s in a bad mood these last few days

That makes it more complicated. You don't need his permission to end it, though. Life is still too short for this shit.

Yes he’s bipolar. He wasn’t on medication but he started on Xanax this weekend. He was good the first couple of days then he became extra mean and angry for no reason

This isn't 'good mood' and 'bad mood' my love.

Yes he’s bipolar

Then his mental health is contributing to the Why. Is this how you want to spend your life? Could things be better for you and your DC?
