Help me urgently.... Divorce and being fucked over

BGP · 07/03/2026 03:03

Tried to work through things. Didn't work.

Now shitting myself as he has said after 9 years marriage I will get 50k and the kids furniture, he says he has already done stuff to protect himself.

I've not got a penny and my name is not on the deeds to the house, can he have put everything in trust to his kids?

I'm panicking about the land registry stuff and thinking he's properly screwed me, although he is desperate for me NOT to see a solicitor for advice, which I certainly will be regardless.

I'm absolutely shitting myself. What am I supposed to do re house? I can't read the stuff online too busy shaking

Please help me

@FairKoala She will need legal advice well before those are settled.

You seem like a capable and astute person @BGP …. So why the heck did you not get yourself on the deeds of your home?

Nowpause · 08/03/2026 15:45

Did you and your children move in to his home that he had purchased prior to meeting you?

Minnie798 · 08/03/2026 16:28

So do you not have any shared dc?
Did you move into a house he already owned pre -marriage and did the inheritance he got pay for a significant amount of the home ?
His offer of 50k is likely too low but if you don't share children, you will be in a weaker position than if you did.

bigboykitty · 08/03/2026 16:31

There are 2 children and it's unclear, but possibly one of them is his. In any case, they've been together 16 years, married for 9, so he will have to go fuck himself if he thinks £50k will buy him out of a £600k house plus assets.

The adult child is just his

and the op refers to “my DC”

Yes, it looks like this to me

He owned a property that he purchased prior to knowing the OP that he purchased with his own inheritance. His name is solely on the deeds. And I imagine his adult child is the beneficiary.

The OP will be entitled to more than £50k but not a chance 50/50

bigboykitty · 08/03/2026 18:32

They are long term married. The starting point will be 50/50 of all marital assets. And OP actually says "my 2 DC", so that's not the adult stepson.

Yes he has a child

and the op has 2 children that she refers to as “my” children so guessing she moved in with him with her two children from a previous relationship

But only the op can clarify!

No one can tell you what is or isn’t likely, based on the information you’ve given. Could he be telling the truth? Yes. There indeed ways to protect assets from divorce, not including pre and/or post nups, and he may have utilized them. He could also be lying.

You need a solicitor.

Mix56 · 08/03/2026 22:17

One thing is certain, if he says you dont need a solicitor, if means you run as fast as your legs can carry you, & get one (bull dog)

Peoplemakemedespair · 23/03/2026 11:33

Have you seen a solicitor op?

UpDownAllAround1 · 23/03/2026 15:51

You will get a mortgage. I got one at 58
