Was chatting to a guy online who admitted he'd date younger women - feel sick

Chatted to an online guy who seemed nice. 51 years old. Not a looker, but seemed ok.
I asked why his age range for women was 21 to 44 as I assumed he'd made a mistake. He said he wouldn't rule out any age if there was a connection. His daughter is 27 and I asked if he'd date a 28 year old (for instance). He said yes.

I accept that we were just chatting but this gave me the creeps. I also appreciate that some people do have big age gaps but does anyone else find this odd?

I think the thought he is open to dating women younger than his DD , or a similar age, is pretty horrible.
It conjours up a picture of him viewing all her friends as potential sexual partners.

TwistedWonder · 13/02/2026 11:38

I’d find it pretty grim as well.

I remember seeing a very mediocre 60+ guy on a dating app saying he only dates under 40’s who are at least an 8/10

Deluded grubby twats

WallyHilloughby · 13/02/2026 11:41

I’m sorry but they are probably all like this if truth be known. Look at Richard Keys marrying his daughters friend 🤮

ForTipsyFinch · 13/02/2026 11:46

Eww yeah, a 51 year old should absolutely not be looking at 21 year olds as potential dates. And on what planet do they think they would be interested anyway?! I’m 35 and I wouldn’t consider someone over 50 myself. It’s absolutely grim.

xOlive · 13/02/2026 11:50

I know there are successful couples with a significant age gap but actively seeking a partner younger than your child is fucking weird.

Furlane · 13/02/2026 11:53

Well he would rule out age despite a connection - anyone over 44!! Thank god people put this on their profile, a good way to weed out weirdos.

Literally! What a bloody creep. Should’ve put you off ever even messaging him
op, honestly.

bluewhitebluewhite · 13/02/2026 11:56

Yeah no. I wouldn’t consider a man who set the top end of his age range as 7 years younger than himself. Creepy.

TwistedWonder · 13/02/2026 12:00

I was 54 the first time I tried OLD and was inundated with messages from men in their 70’s right up to the oldest being 82 🤮

forgetitplease · 13/02/2026 12:02

Yeah, it's like Leonardo Dicaprio. He dates 18+ year olds. I can't help but see men of older ages who date women under 30 as a bit gross.

Thing is, unless the man has got a shed load of cash the young women wouldn't be looking in their direction. There are probably the outliers who do find older men genuinely attractive but I can't imagine that is common.

Therefore if you're an older man and a beautiful young lady is sleeping with you then he knows she's only doing it for his money or whatever. Then it becomes transactional which starts going into escort/sex worker territory.

Just my opinion but it's all a bit seedy.

CrikeyNumpty · 13/02/2026 12:07

Women look for partners, men look for objects. Makes sense to them to look for the most beautiful object, which in the main equates to youth. Men are basic. There isn’t much to them.

Parsleyforme · 13/02/2026 12:10

Leonardo DiCaprio vibes! I would assume he is either very rich or very immature

This.

Look how many second wives are over a decade younger than the first version.

BauhausOfEliott · 13/02/2026 12:15

I mean, feeling sick is a bit melodramatic. Fine to be put off but it’s not exactly shocking or especially unusual for man to be attracted to someone 20 years younger. I’d find him off-putting and I’d be unmatching him, but a 28-year-old is a grown woman. He’s not proposing to groom a teenager. I’d roll my eyes and move on, not ‘feel sick’ and start a Mumsnet thread about it.

Octavia64 · 13/02/2026 12:17

It’s normal for men.

whether they can actually manage it is a different question.

Pasta4Dinner · 13/02/2026 12:21

This is why a lot of men end up alone because they set these rules for themselves.

Was coming to say this, he's open to anyone except people his own age.............sleaze bag

CrikeyNumpty · 13/02/2026 12:27

I am posting a screenshot of that famous graph which shows what age women and men are attracted to when getting older. Not sure about posting rules. Will probably take a while to get approved?

Dollymylove · 13/02/2026 12:37

Young women have been dating and marrying older, sometimes very wealthy men for 100s of years. If a grown adult woman wishes to date/marry someone 20 years older its nobody else's business (except Mumsnetters, of course)

catipuss · 13/02/2026 12:42

Ever the optimist! To be fair as you get older you don't feel older, you still feel like that 20 something you were many years ago, a bit delusional and what would he have in common with someone that young?

I think that just proves women are more pragmatic and less optimistic than men! It's also expected that men will appreciate a young attractive woman at any age (not do anything about it though), whereas an older women appreciating a virile young man would be perceived as odd.

Old men and old women are not very attractive to anyone so your options are pretty limited, women just realise it.

Yep. I think women are seriously deluding themselves if they think only creeps and perverts want younger women. The majority of men wouldn't say no to someone half their age given the chance.

BillieWiper · 13/02/2026 13:00

But nobody that age would date him. And if they did that would be their choice if they're into much older men. He's not saying he'd date teens. He's not pretending to be 28 himself.

Most men would say they'd date a woman 21 plus. They wish they could. If it came down to it they would probably have very little in common but as a concept many men will say they'd do it.

I don't think it necessarily makes them an abject pervert, more they're just way too hopeful for their own good.

I think women are a lot more realistic about their level so to speak.

Most women wouldn’t approach a man they thought was totally out of their league whereas a man would have no such shame.

Ms average would look at Brad Pitt in his heyday and think ‘I’ve got no chance’ whereas unemployed overweight pasty pensioner Dave would see Cara Delevigne and think ‘yep I’ll have some of that’

To some men, it's like ordering a toaster or a microwave
