Ex threatening to share videos

Bobbydrizzler · 19/01/2026 15:28

My awful ex is becoming ever more embittered by our breakup. Stupidly when we were together (during lockdown) we exchanged sexual videos. He is now threatening to share them with people I know.
I told him that this would be illegal and his response was to send me a particular clip he says he will share. It is obviously a sexual video but you can't see anything obviously sexual. Sorry if that isn't clear, but essentially my question is would it be illegal to share it?!

I am really anxious about him doing so and would like to go to the police or someone. Or at least have some legal backup. But it's hard because the video doesn't actually show sex or my genitals. Any advice?

Go to the police.

ShawnaMacallister · 19/01/2026 15:30

Yes it would definitely be illegal and by threatening he's already acted illegally. Please report to the police.

Mumlaplomb · 19/01/2026 15:30

Go to the police OP. A visit from them will nip this nasty bastards behaviour in the bud.

screenshot all the messages he has sent you about sharing the videos.

And go to the police.

Bobbydrizzler · 19/01/2026 15:32

Thank you all. Police it is. Hopefully they won't want to see the videos? Basically I just want someone to somehow make sure he has deleted them (I think there are only three) without anyone ever watching them! Which I know is impossible.

Go to the police. Doesn't matter what's in the videos, he is threatening and blackmailing you, which is also illegal.

January2026Bluesoohs · 19/01/2026 15:48

That is illegal and it’s called revenge porn, he will get into serious shit for even threatening it.

Thewonderfuleveryday · 19/01/2026 15:50

Police. Good luck, hopefully they'll intervene.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 19/01/2026 15:53

police and block the guy

what a dick

Happyjoe · 19/01/2026 16:10

Phone the police for sure, I hope your local force is one of the good ones dealing with things like this (they differ). If they try to fob you off, try elsewhere.

Zov · 19/01/2026 16:14

He can go to prison for this. Make sure he does if he DOES share/show the footage to people. It's 'revenge porn' and he could get 2 years in prison for it.

As has been said, report it to the police. Even if it is only a threat right now.

What a fucking horrible bastard.

Sorry you are going through this. Flowers

.

Scout2016 · 19/01/2026 16:20

Was also going to say go to the police OP.

Good luck OP. Hope it goes OK with the police.

BauhausOfEliott · 19/01/2026 16:28

Regardless of what can be seen in the video, he’s threatening you and intimidating you by implying that he’s going to share it, and that’s a police matter in itself.

dadtoateen · 19/01/2026 16:30

As others have said, inform the police, screenshot the messages etc.

What he has threatened is VERY serious.

StrawberryWater · 19/01/2026 16:30

Straight to police.

Betsy95 · 19/01/2026 16:30

Yes very illegal, even sharing private messages in an attempt to blackmail is illegal.

Go to the police or ask a solicitor to draft a letter.

Nearly50omg · 19/01/2026 16:31

report this to the police!! It is a crime even threatening this and if he does actually do anything they will throw the book at him

Llamma · 19/01/2026 16:33

He has already committed a crime by threatening you. Go to the police now before he commits another crime against you.

Noshowlomo · 19/01/2026 16:58

Police. He will get absolutely DONE for this

Imbusytodaysorry · 19/01/2026 17:31

@Bobbydrizzler the police will take this very serious .
keep us posted how it goes op

SpringBulbsPop · 19/01/2026 17:51

Police

Bobbydrizzler · 19/01/2026 18:08

Thanks everyone. I have told him what you have said.
My concern is that it wouldn't be classed as revenge porn because it's not what I would consider to be porn. But hopefully the scare will make him stop the threats, and if it doesn't then the police will be involved. I just feel silly for making the videos in the first place. But yes, it turns out that he is a horrible man.

ThisJadeBear · 19/01/2026 18:13

Does this ‘man’ think he’s going to impress anyone by sharing this video?
If it’s to anyone who is a friend of yours, they would feel sickened.
I am not sure how old this ‘man’ is but if he did actually do this, people would generally assume he is vile.
It is a very real threat and one which is upsetting you. I hope the police can help.

OP - don't. Just go right to the police. He will have this over you for ever.
The revenge part is tarnishing your good name by posting videos.

(but as an aside: hopefully you won't be silly enough to make videos again??
