Sitting in the back with the children.

My mischevious side wants to post this in AIBU. I think it is really wet when the mother sits in the back with the DCs. Puts the DP in the position of chauffeur. Assuming that when the mother drives the children are unsupervised what can be the reasons and doesn't it undermine the partnership between parents.

I must be wet then, i always sit in the back with DD and she is 2. Ive always done this. Why shouldnt i?? I cant drive so DP IS my chauffer

Our driving is limited to occasional trips in a hire car, so I had failed to realise that there was anything as important as a significance attached to this. I just naturally assume that as I don't have a bad back (unlike dd) or get car sick (unlike ds) the seat in the back is mine. I never thought people would be interested enough to be looking at us and making judgments. Oh well, if they find it passes the time....

Besides, I find the back seat is far better when leading singsongs: your voice projects better . (you can tell we don't go in a car very often, can't you?)

Now I'm the one that's really going to come across as precious: on a crowded bus it would be me, not dd, who got up to offer their seat. Perhaps I should wear a placard round my neck saying 'but I do beat her in private'

cory, you standing up in the bus rather than your children is VERY sensible. You do know that London Bus drivers only qualify when they can get kids to fly from the entrance to the back seat?

When DCs were in the little rear facing car seats (I think we had the Britax Rock-a-Tot) they always went in the front seat and non driver DH was relegated to the back (could never fit it properly with the rear seatbelts) Now the Dcs are older, they are the ones relegated to the back. DS1 is the only one big enough to sit in the front and he does it when DH isn't there. I'd never give the DCs priority over an adult for the front seat unless there was a good reason, back seats suck

i would normally prefer to sit in the front, either as driver or passenger, but as my children are incapable of going more than 5 minutes down the road without fighting if they are all wedged in the back, I have resigned myself to spending some time in the backseat when we go on holidays. Otherwise I will seriously be tempted to leave them all on the hard shoulder...
