Rosylilly, interesting you mention this about your DH. My Father is Pakistani/Persian and wearing the ring means nothing to him as it's not on his cultural radar.

themoon66 · 11/06/2008 11:30

Neither of us do. I own one but hate the feel of rings.

DevilwearsPrada · 11/06/2008 11:31

Yes we both do.

Rosylily · 11/06/2008 11:53

Alexa hmm, Persian you say? Is he Bahai by any chance? we have bahai friends and they always say Persia. I love that word.

Bridie3 · 11/06/2008 12:01

I don't like any jewelery on men. Not even rings.

OrmIrian · 11/06/2008 12:03

Yes. I do. Dh broke his at work (cheap rubbish!) so I bought him a funky silver one instead.

I don't see why anyone wouldn't. If you've gone to all the trouble of getting married, gone public etc, why not wear a ring?

Bridie3 · 11/06/2008 12:33

It's a fairly recent thing for British men to wear wedding rings. Neither my FIL or father wear them.

I found this: (seems like male wedding rings are a US export):

"The American jewellery industry started a marketing campaign aimed at encouraging this practice in the late 19th century.[5] Learning from marketing lessons of the 1920s, changing economic times, and the impact of World War II, led to a more successful marketing campaign, and by the late 1940s, double-ring ceremonies made up for 80% of all weddings@

DH never wears his unless he's on holiday or wgatever. He works with cars so it's a safety thing.

I wear mine every day but take off at night. We only got married last year after being together for 20 years so i like looking at my ring Saddo eh?

Twinkie1 · 11/06/2008 13:44

Yep and an engagement and eternoty ring - why beacuse they are cute and sparkly - ha ha - no because I love him and love being Mrs Twinkie!

He wears one for the same reason although I think he loves being Mr Twinkie more - and I think that is right! It is the only jewellery he wears though - other than a watch.

No, will go and look now...

Oblomov · 11/06/2008 15:07

We both do.
I feel the same way as sophable.
I have three platinum rings - my wedding, engagement and eternity, all made by the same person, on my finger.
Whenever I look at them, as I am doing now, they make me very very happy.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 11/06/2008 15:15

we both wear ours.
me all the time, except when carpal tunnel syndrome gives me fat fingers, which is all the time, not just when preg, and dh when he gets home from work. mechanic - no rings at work, fingers can get stuck/ripped off, flesh ripped off...gross, gross, gross.

he even wears it out on the tiles, unlike his bro who takes his off.

dh is a hottie so must wear it whenever poss.
though he sometimes gets hit on whilst wearing it with me and the kids in tow.

Nemoandthefishes · 11/06/2008 15:29

I wear mine along with eternity and engagement ring.
Dhs no longer fits on his finger however he does wear it on a necklace.
My fil and step father never wear theirs

Haylstones · 11/06/2008 15:38

Until december I wore mine every day with my engagement and eternity ring then late pregnancy won and I had to take them off. Ds is now 115 weeks and they still don't fit but I'm hopign the swelling/fat will go down at some point and I can wear them again

ALMummy · 11/06/2008 16:35

DH lost his the second year we were married and never got round to buying another.

I lost loads of weight and mine no longer fit me. They slip off in cold weather. I could get them made smaller I suppose but feel this is tempting fate and I will immediately pile all weight back on if I do.
