Genuine question about women's attraction

Today I was 35 (M) unscrewing a shelf from the wall of our living room, while meanwhile I had our 4 week old son asleep happy and attached to me in a sling.
I glanced over to the other side of the room and my wife was watching me with a slight grin and lustful look in her eye,
I asked her, 'whats up' she said she found it very attractive that a man has a maternal side, ie looking after the baby. She said she found it attractive any also many other women would. I disagreed thinking it was un-man like to be looking after a child in that way and that many women would be naturally put off by a man undertaking that role that is usually by a women.
Anyway we had a small discussion and thought we would put it to a poll.
What do you guys think?

Behave yourself! This is a man who can put a baby in a sling and also remove screws!
Ignore the mouse house and genuflect!

😂

Does he own a bookshop, do we think? Has he got chestnut hair and piercing blue eyes?

Grin

I don't mean to diss you, man, but I could take off that shelf and I've got rheumatoid arthritis.
Just sayin'. No slammin'.

carmak · 12/10/2025 16:06

I think a bit of sanding's required under that 'shelf'.

I started off thinking oh that’s lovely and your wife is right, but ended up thinking you’re a twat.

But you surely can’t be doing diy with a baby attached to you, that’s potentially dangerous for your child.

I want to point out that that my point of view is based on what i think or thought a large percentage of women wanted and not how I actually act within my marriage,

Can you clarify something?
You were unscrewing the "shelf" at 00.36am.
It is now 16.26pm.
Just how long is it taking you, and why?

RatherTardy · 12/10/2025 16:40

The rest of the time they were dealing with DW's lustful eye

You will never know what a large percentage of women want because (drumroll...) we're all different!

Yeah, true. He probably kept dropping his screwdriver.
I do hope he's had time for a snack. 16 hours is quite a long time to remove a wooden ruler attached with 2 screws.

It's in the OP's 2nd post.

I’ve just managed to see it thanks, MN isn’t loading all the messages for me it’s being a bit crap last couple of days. I have downloaded the app to see if that’s any better but now I’m struggling to find notifications 🙈

ForTipsyFinch · 12/10/2025 17:40

Is someone bored?

Arlanymor · 12/10/2025 17:55

This reminds me of when L’Enfant was all the rage - remember that black and white photo of a man and baby that they sold in Athena?

When my mum saw it she rolled her eyes and said: “Just out of shot is his wife saying: “Put your bloody shirt on Darren - I asked you to feed the baby 10 minutes ago, plus you’ve still not changed his nappy have you?” I’ve never looked at it the same since…

Performative parenting (sorry ‘helping out’) comes in all shapes and sizes…

I had the same thing with that thread from LondonWoes and people kept digging into me - but it was the site only half loading and then jumping backwards and forwards!

Yes sounds very familiar - weirdly seems to work best for me on my mobile but not using the app, but just the URL. It was very frustrating - thought it was me going mad at first!!

People need to calm down about the shelf, it’s tiny. I did all sorts of housework and DIY with my babies asleep on my chest, nothing would have got done otherwise.

But yes, OP, I think the majority of women do find it very attractive to see their mate contributing competently to the shared parenting of their children. It’s just a pity you opened your big mouth and ruined it all…

BettyBobble · 12/10/2025 18:33

Loubanez · 12/10/2025 13:00

It was literally a 6 inch by 3 inch piece of plywood held in by two 1 inch screws, i think you are over-reacting
slings are used to allow to do house work all the time.

Yes do calm down dear @LoubanezYou'll be accused of being neurotic by the alpha male. That's if he's around. Maybe he's helping his wife and making dinner 🤷‍♀️

Yes, it would certainly have been helpful if he had explained the "shelf" situation with more clarity. Naturally, the concern was that he was actually removing a shelf. We imagined, well, a shelf. Therefore an item with weight and producing dust on removal.
It turns out that this was something of an ambitious description, and it's removal was unlikely to have harmed even a mouse.
The moral: explain clearly.

perfectcolourfound · 12/10/2025 18:42

Yeah, taking down a shelf whilst looking after your child isn't 'helping your wife out'. It's your house and your child too, so you were just doing basic adulting.

Not of itself sexy. Just neutral.

However the fact you want a rewards for it and think it makes you special, and that you're a hero for 'helping your wife' is deeply unsexy.

OnlyJoking1 · 13/10/2025 02:14

I have concerns about the “help” you are “Giving”
