Genuine question about women's attraction

Today I was 35 (M) unscrewing a shelf from the wall of our living room, while meanwhile I had our 4 week old son asleep happy and attached to me in a sling.
I glanced over to the other side of the room and my wife was watching me with a slight grin and lustful look in her eye,
I asked her, 'whats up' she said she found it very attractive that a man has a maternal side, ie looking after the baby. She said she found it attractive any also many other women would. I disagreed thinking it was un-man like to be looking after a child in that way and that many women would be naturally put off by a man undertaking that role that is usually by a women.
Anyway we had a small discussion and thought we would put it to a poll.
What do you guys think?

Your husband expected you to work full time AND look after the kids, that sucks. My wife hasn't worked a day in the last 6 years. (Well she has raised children, which is a full time job in itself) Ive never expected her to get a job and she doesn't have to if she doesn't want to.
You are right, parenting is a 50/50 Job but untill men can grow breasts and produce milk, I can't 'help out' any more than I already am on that side.
It was more of question on psychology between the sexes on attraction but I guess you guys have answered my question, my wife finds it hot when I take on more traditionally feminine roles, so im going to keep doing what im doing. Sorry to all the women that had partners who indulged in drinking/ porn and still expected you work full time and look after the kids.
Thanks for all your responses.

I don't normally quote whole long posts but reading that genuinely makes me wonder if you've read and actually understood anything that's been said on this thread.
Lack of reading comprehension would be a huge turn off for me.

Your wife gave up her own earning potential and financial security to become dependent on you financially? I hope she is a Mumsnetter too, we can help her.

I don’t think the baby should be breathing in the dust from unscrewing the shelf -
was it wood or mdf?

This was my first thought. It was a bit dangerous!

My DH would put our daughter in a sling and do housework to prove a point to me. He was being a dick and it wasn’t attractive in the slightest.

btw I have absolutely no problem helping out and want to help my wife as much as I possibly can in any way, I was wanted to understand from a women's perspective

That in itself is misogynistic. Decent men don’t “help” their partner, they simply do their share involving themselves fully with the responsibilities of having a home and family

What do you mean 'helping out' and 'help my wife'?

Why do you view it all as her sole responsiblity and your input into family life as merely 'helping' her?

You’re not helping out when you care for YOUR OWN CHILD! It’s called parenting, FFS! If the shelf is in your house that’s aka DIY! Jeeeeez

Congratulations, your wife was hot for you and you managed to say the most pathetically unsexy thing I think any woman could think of. I heard her vagina clamp shut from here. Poor woman.

Also parenting your own child is not "helping your wife".

Edited

It probably can’t clamp shut at all, after giving birth 4 weeks ago (yes assuming a vaginal delivery)!

user2848502016 · 12/10/2025 11:05

You think looking after a baby is women’s work and that is not attractive. You’re not being “maternal” or “helping out”, you’re being paternal looking after your own baby.

A father caring for his own children and being a good dad is attractive

Women don't all have the same perspective. Your wife liked watching you with your baby which is very nice.

This post has given me the ick. Very much bloke telling women how much of a feminist he is vibes

user44455557621 · 12/10/2025 11:09

I think any man who claims his wife is looking at him lustfully at 4 weeks after giving birth is either deluded or on a windup.

JetFlight · 12/10/2025 11:11

Each to their own. If your wife finds you sexy doing whatever you’re doing, just take it for whatever it is.
I’d be too busy worrying about the baby getting injured, but hey, that’s me.

Um what now, your wife finds it hot so you will keep doing it; not because you’re a parent and half the care falls to you. ??

Of course ill keep doing it, it's my job as s parent. But the fact she finds it attractive is even better. I just wasn't sure if women generally speaking would rather be out making paper

I've never made paper.
I'm a woman who is married and with adult DC. My DH co-parented. That was a given.
What he would never do is put a baby at risk by doing any kind of DIY with said baby in a sling.
Put your child down somewhere safe before removing shelves!

tripleginandtonic · 12/10/2025 11:37

I'm a feminist but I'd agree that I find men who obviously like babies (not necessarily their own) attractive.

Making paper? What, what?

Me neither.

That's not anti feminist! 😄
It's a personal preference!

It’s an American rapper/ 13yr old roadman way of saying making money. I’d suspect the op is the latter

Oh dear lord.....

IAmThePrettiestManOnMyIsland · 12/10/2025 11:53

The idea of a 35 old man using MN is highly unlikely and this part read like a bad Mills & Boon 'I glanced over to the other side of the room and my wife was watching me with a slight grin and lustful look in her eye,
I asked her, 'whats up' she said she found it very attractive that a man has a maternal side.'

This is either a reverse or some convoluted way of asking a basic question.

Yes I'm that cynical.

Rainbows41 · 12/10/2025 12:01

I personally think you should not be dismantling shelves from a wall with a 4 week old strapped to your front. Absolutely no way.

I thought it might be a typo for buying a paper. 😁
