Parents relationship.

OP posts:
NotMyRealAccount · 20/08/2025 18:22

My parents made it past 65 years together and 61 years married. DH and I would both have to live well past 100 to match that. However, my oldest daughter and her husband will soon have been together for longer than her father and I were.

MamaElephantMama · 20/08/2025 18:23

My parents have been married for 42 years. I am in my 30s so can’t compete with that.

LastKnownSurvivor · 20/08/2025 18:23

Parents - married since before I was born.

Thepeopleversuswork · 20/08/2025 18:23

My parents were married for 40 years until my mum's death. (They were the product of an affair, too, in contravention of Mumsnet received wisdom).

My longest relationship was 11 years, with my ex-husband (15 if you count the time it took us to actually get divorced).

I thing long relationships are over-rated though. I'm not sure people are really meant to be together for life.

taxidriver · 20/08/2025 18:24

my relationship,
dm a widow but previously divorced

Bunnycute23 · 20/08/2025 18:25

My dad's only about 5ft7. My son's 6ft3. So definitely longer.

Adoptedbykitten · 20/08/2025 18:26

Married for more than three times as long as my parents were

BusySittingDown · 20/08/2025 18:28

My parents were together about 30 years before my Dad died. DH and I have been together for 24 so we're not far off.

DH's parents have been married for about 41 years or so, their relationship is obviously longer.

MadiMooMoo · 20/08/2025 18:29

My parents are 40 years married, around 45 together. Im on 20 years currently... God willing will all get more years together ❤️

Teacherjw · 20/08/2025 18:32

My parents were together for 10 years, my husband and I have been together for 23 years, married for 12.

SeasalterSadie · 20/08/2025 18:32

My parents lasted 19 years
I've managed 36

TorroFerney · 20/08/2025 18:33

Me 29 years, my parents a lot more but they absolutely hated each other so really they should probably not have been married or probably got divorced after a couple of years.

Arley617 · 20/08/2025 18:34

My parents have been together for about 60 years so far. I met DH at 27 so have nearly 40 years left to catch up!

UnctuousUnicorns · 20/08/2025 18:38

My parents. They've been together for 60 years (might be longer), married for 58. DH and I have been together for 30 years, married for 27.

TwistedWonder · 20/08/2025 18:42

My parents have been married 62 years together 64

I was married 23 years together 27

Meadowfinch · 20/08/2025 18:47

My parents were together 42 years, disliking each other but of the generation who regarded divorce as shameful.

My longest relationship lasted 6 years but it was my choice to walk away, and has enabled me to have a happy enjoyable life and provide my ds with a positive and healthy home environment.

I am far far luckier than my DM. 😊

SecretNameforMN · 20/08/2025 18:48

Parents.

FrenchLavendar · 20/08/2025 18:55

My parents were engaged for a year and married for 45 years. I'm sure it would have been longer if my dad had lived as long as mum did. My mum was a widow for 22 years.

DH and I are in our 48th year of marriage. We met more than 50 years ago. When I think about it I'm astonished at how much time has passed!

ShoeeMcfee · 20/08/2025 18:58

Parents. But things were different in the past, social norms dictated that once married, you should stay married. Plus, there wasn't any support for women if you left an abusive husband. My dad was nasty, but my mum wouldn't have dreamed of leaving him because of the 'shame'.

MemorableTrenchcoat · 20/08/2025 18:58

My parents have been married 50 years. My longest relationship was a little over 1% of that 😂

Makingamessofitall · 20/08/2025 19:00

My marriage is currently both longer in terms of time, and in terms of happiness than my parents. They were definitely two people who should never have been together, let alone procreated.

Endofyear · 20/08/2025 19:06

My parents were married for 52 years until my dad passed away aged 75. DH and I have clocked up 35 years so we've got a way to go yet!

Snap.

Beachtastic · 20/08/2025 19:07

My parents were married for 72 years, so it's quite hard to beat. Not that I'd have wanted their marriage.

PrincessC0nsuelaBananaHammock · 20/08/2025 19:08

Mine, parents were together for 22 years, I've been with DH for 30 years. My parents have been divorced longer than they were married.
