Parents relationship.

OP posts:
Comedycook · 20/08/2025 19:08

My parents were together for 14 years before one of them died. I've been with DH for longer which was a really weird realisation...I'm also older than my mum when she died...very strange

autienotnaughty · 20/08/2025 19:09

My parents were together 41 years but were unhappy unfortunately
ive been with dh 17 years some good some not so good

TaborlinTheGreat · 20/08/2025 19:10

My parents have been married for 54 years. I'm 53, so it wouldn't be possible for me to have had a longer relationship than theirs! I have been married for 22 years.

hugoagogo · 20/08/2025 19:12

dps divorced after 14 years, dh and I have been together for 30 years.

WorthyOpalZebra · 20/08/2025 19:19

Both my parents and my inlaws made it past 50 years married before one of them died. I'll struggle to compete with that unless we both live a very long time.

Guavafish1 · 20/08/2025 19:21

Parents married 46 years

me and partner married 5 years… both in our 40’s … unlike to get there 😢

Indianajet · 20/08/2025 19:24

My parents were married for 70 years. My late husband and I made it to just under 49 years.

StrawberryWater · 20/08/2025 19:35

My parents were married for 10 years, together about 16 years.

My husband and I have been married for 12 years and together for 16. So pretty similar. No signs of divorce though!

mindutopia · 20/08/2025 19:36

Dh and I. Together 17 years and married 14.

My parents, quite disastrously, were together about 14 and married for 12 (separated for 2 of those years).

Fortunately, I have a much healthier sense of self worth and better relationship skills than my mum. All of her relationships have been with complete losers, even her 2nd marriage, which has lasted 20 years. I learned a lot from her about what NOT to look for in a man!

Doyouknowdanieltiger · 20/08/2025 19:37

Mine - 10 years
Mums longest -7 years

SparklyGlitterballs · 20/08/2025 19:42

My parents were married just short of 60 years when my dad died in 2017.

Me and DH had been married 34 years (together 40 years) when he died last year.

greengreyblue · 20/08/2025 19:44

Parents got to 51 before DM died. We are at 29 so far.

turkeyboots · 20/08/2025 19:45

As of last week I am married 3 years longer than my parents, and 15 years longer than the inlaws. Inlaws second marriages are all longer than DH and mines marriage though.

legalseagull · 20/08/2025 19:45

Mine. My parents were only together 8 years. Were 17 so far

Radiowaawaa · 20/08/2025 19:52

I’ve been married longer and we are much happier (I’m sure that they probably were at some point but not when I was growing up).

Sodastreamin · 20/08/2025 19:57

Parents - Married 43 years when one of them passed away.

silverspringer · 20/08/2025 19:59

Mine. I overtook my parents a few years ago in terms of when they divorced. Far more successful in every way and they should never have had a second date. 😂

WonderingWanda · 20/08/2025 19:59

My parents have 6 marriages between them, none of them lasted as long as mine but altogether they have each had more years being married than me.

oustedbymymate · 20/08/2025 20:05

Parents - 9 years. DH and I -19 so far!

Dutchhouse14 · 20/08/2025 20:10

My parents were married 42 years, a lot of it unhappily.
DHs parents were married 10 years before divorce, his dad had numerous affairs and one of which resulted in a child.
Me and DH have been together 30 years married 27.
Not always a bed of roses but better than our parents.
My paternal grandparents were married 6 years before my granddad was killed in the WWII
and maternal grandparents married 40 years.

MoreIcedLattePlease · 20/08/2025 20:11

DH and I have been married for 12 years, together for over 15. My parents barely made it to 5 and DM has had 2 failed marriages since then... (God only knows how I've managed to create a functioning family life for my DC!!)

BeeMyBaby · 20/08/2025 20:12

My parents have been married 56 years so far and my husband just left me after 16 years. And every year of my parents marriage was happier than mine. So I guess its good mine was shorter.

goudacheese · 20/08/2025 20:17

My parents and in laws, around 35 years each with a parent passing away. I've been married 37 years.

LonelyMom123 · 20/08/2025 20:27

My parents:
parents - almost 50 years together and 47 years married

me - 24 years together and 20 years married

merryhouse · 20/08/2025 20:27

parents approx 40 years, so we've got another 4 to go.
