My husband always wanted a lazy Susan for the garden table. What silly thing has your partner always earned after?

Why is it silly?

TroysMammy · 12/05/2025 20:17

When I told my friend I had a lazy Susan her husband said about his wife with the same name "I've got one too!". She's not lazy and he had to do a lot of apologising and crawling.

Cognacsoft · 12/05/2025 20:18

It’s not a bad idea but how much would you use it?

Last year dh and I both wanted a beautiful and very expensive glazed pot to put an olive tree in. During the winter the rim just broke into pieces, presumably frost.
£80 down the drain. Tree in a plastic pot now.

Hatty65 · 12/05/2025 20:20

@TheNightingalesStarling Ooh - my DH has always wanted one of those too!

The other thing he always wanted was a barometer (because his Grandad had one) but the adult DCs bought him one a few years ago. He taps it frequently and makes wise noises about the weather.

My husband has a departure board, to make up for the delay in creating a train room.

Arancia · 12/05/2025 20:23

I'm the cook in the family. As in, I cook 100% of our meals. I'm also the ones who cleans it, so basically, the kitchenis my domain. I don't like modern appliances at all...no touch buttons, no unnecessary devices, no ice cube dispenser on my fridge door, no Alexa...you get the gist. My husband regularly suggests getting dumb things I won't like or use, like

  • Nescafé coffee makers (I don't drink coffee, and he only drinks Serbian coffee which is made in traditional Turkish coffee pot)
  • Vitamix (genuinely don't know what I would use it for)
  • An electric kettle (I hate them, I much prefer a stove kettle)

The list goes on.

He also regularly wants to get a swimming pool in the garden. Bear in mind we live in Scandinavia, and our summers are 20 degrees celsius on average - on a good year.

He just likes the name

CoastalCalm · 12/05/2025 20:23

Oh he’s always wanting something , at the moment it’s alternating between a professional slush machine or an ice cream maker - god knows what will be next

We live on a 3 bed semi, not Downton Abbey.

Get one! We also live in a semi and bought a globe years ago. It’s so fun and our teens argue about who gets to have it when we die Grin

cheeseomelette · 12/05/2025 21:32

I have one from ikea - it’s fab!

Maybe after our garden office is complete...

menopausalfart · 12/05/2025 22:02

A room-sized bed.

I'd like both of those too! But have you seen the price of the shark slush machine!

Zanzara · 12/05/2025 22:19

A Lazy Susan is a very practical and useful item. Someone recently bought us one for our house in Spain, and I can't wait to use it in the garden this summer. ☀️🌴🌿

We had one of these!!! It was lovely, but ultimately we just didn't use it enough and sold it on. It just became a large, unwieldy but gorgeous ornament.

MarigoldCherry · 13/05/2025 08:13

Mine is desperate to build a pizza oven despite not being skilled in DIY or cooking. Our garden will not be complete without one apparently and a small portable one will not do.

AnnaMagnani · 13/05/2025 08:28

In my family it's me with the mad yearnings.

DH just rolls an eye and says 'Yes Dear' and then I know it will never happen and move on to the next random must have pointless item

Oceangrey · 13/05/2025 08:37

A tortoise

DelboytrottersDnecklace · 13/05/2025 08:38

A suit of armour

We live In a two and a half bedroom house (no way can the box room be classed as a bedroom) and not some massive stately home

God knows where we'd store the bloody thing

Caledoniadreaming · 13/05/2025 08:40

A pizza oven. We already have 2 barbecues (don't ask) and a smoker. He has designs on building an outdoor kitchen, but "only a couple of cupboards" which I can see morphing into a massive area complete with wine fridge.

He already bought the swimming pool 🙄

I think you ate going to win. At least the other items do have some practical use...

FrenchandSaunders · 13/05/2025 08:44

DH wants to pave our beautiful garden and restore classic cars in it 😳🤦‍♀️

All this thing would do is gather dust

And I hate dusting!

I have visions of it stood in our box room and giving burglars a heart attack
