Would you rather go away with your friend or partner?

Just that really- I’ve realised I’d always rather go away with my friend or friends rather than my husband. Bit sad really

Mostly my partner. For some things, my friends. For others, my parents.

But nine out of ten times, partner. He is the person I most like hanging out with.

Chasingsquirrels · 08/02/2025 09:57

Partner.

I've never had any desire to go away with friends and (apart from when the kids were small, I was single, and a friend and her kids and I and my kids would do a travelodge 2 day/1 night trips - which were for the kods as much as us) I have never been away with friends.

Bbq1 · 08/02/2025 10:05

Husband. Always. I've never been one for going away with friends, I've never done it. Any holiday time i want to send with my dh - and our ds if he wants to come along.

MightyGoldBear · 08/02/2025 10:09

Partner. As horrendously cringey as it sounds, He is my best friend.

We don't all have to be the same though I think it's fine to prefer certain people for certain activities etc.

If it makes you sad though is it something you want to change/talk about with him? Have you distanced over the years? Would they at one point of been your first choice?

Samesame47 · 08/02/2025 10:20

Always my husband, the only time I ever choose to have a night away from him is when visiting family but even that is few and far between as he would generally come with me. I haven’t been away with friends since I was in my 20’s.

SlapTheMelon · 08/02/2025 10:25

Partner. I enjoy going with friends but only in small doses. I love my me time and comfort and DH is comfort.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 08/02/2025 10:25

Partner, or sometimes by myself. I love my friends, but no desire to go on holiday with them.

Literallynoonecares · 08/02/2025 10:28

Husband. Everytime. He is my bestie and we have a fab time when we go away together. He is the person I would chose to spend time with over any of my friends (who I love but wouldn't really want to go away with) The only other people I love going away with are my adult daughters.

savoycabbage · 08/02/2025 10:44

Definitely my husband. He's the one I want to tell when something happens, good or bad.

Funnysausage · 08/02/2025 10:45

Definitely my friends! Spend LOADS of time with my OH as it is, whereas seeing close friends is a massive treat. And, tbh, going away with them would be more fun...

Same! I love my husband to bits but we see each other every day, whereas I never have enough time with friends. Time away from home and the family always feels like such a treat.

Ruby0707 · 08/02/2025 10:50

You can't compare them like for like. They are usually different holidays.

I enjoy both and couldn't do without either.

Mrsknowitall · 08/02/2025 10:53

Husband every time

JC03745 · 08/02/2025 10:56

Husband.
I haven't been on a holiday with friends for 20yrs! We don't have children.

Ratisshortforratthew · 08/02/2025 10:59

Both, my friends and my partner are of equal importance. I also like solo travel too, I left my partner at home for 6 weeks last year while I went on my jollies round the far east. It’s no reflection of our relationship, I love spending time with him I just love my life independently of him too.

AuntieMarys · 08/02/2025 11:00

Both! I go twice a year with a friend but love my breaks with dh. We put a lot of planning into them.

MissAmbrosia · 08/02/2025 11:03

Both - but for different reasons. My DH is more into museums/galleries/sightseeing, my friends are more into a stroll round and lots of aperol on terraces. There is room in my life for both.

TomatoSandwiches · 08/02/2025 11:04

Husband but really I'd rather take myself off somewhere alone, I don't get to be alone very much at all.

Clarice99 · 08/02/2025 11:09

Husband. I'd rather spend time with him above anyone else.

I wouldn't even consider going on holiday with friend(s). A 'day out' - fine. Beyond one day, definitely not for me.

lemongrizzly · 08/02/2025 11:11

Depends if it’s a short or long trip.

There are a few friends I’d enjoy going away with for a few nights, although I mostly tend to do day trips with friends rather than go away.

For a longer trip, I’m not sure I have any friends where we’d actually want the same things from a longer trip - as much as I love my friends. And while I like the abstract idea of going away with friends, I’m just not sure it would be that great.

So, probably DH. We tend to have similar wishes in terms of how we spend our time, and we both bring different strengths - for example I hate researching things like directions, local public transport and options for days out while DH happily does that.

Or I love to go away on my own and don’t do that enough!

TuesdayRubies · 08/02/2025 11:16

Husband. I've never really enjoyed a trip with a friend quite so much. Too many personality differences. Loved a trip with my Mum, though!

MaltipooMama · 08/02/2025 11:29

Oh without a doubt my partner all day long! As cheesy as it is I really would class him as my best friend because I get on with him better than anyone else I know and have the most fun when I'm with him! No one can make me laugh like he does and whilst my friends more enjoy relaxing by the pool or on a beach, my partner and I are more inclined to want to play tennis, football and just generally muck around have fun!

socks1107 · 08/02/2025 11:47

My dh. He's my best friend I love being with him.
I've never been away with friends and it's never occurred to me to do it

Foodoverload · 08/02/2025 11:52

Depends on the holiday and what we are doing. DP likes getting out and exploring, plus chill time at the pool. He plans in advance and always researches places and things to do. It’s like having my personal tour guide and we always have fun.

friends are more relaxed and happy to wander and stop for drinks etc. they are more foodies than DP and love to try places.

I have room for both in my life. Most holidays are with DP but love going away for a girly night

Same. We're retired so going away with a dear friend or solo is a massive treat ( although AC is also a massive treat)
