Would you rather go away with your friend or partner?

Just that really- I’ve realised I’d always rather go away with my friend or friends rather than my husband. Bit sad really

Different folks for different strokes; I have a friend who is happy to indulge my "let's spend all day in museum and drinking tea" side. Whilst DH will go to a museum, he's usually had enough after 2 hours or so.
DH and I enjoy wandering around stately homes and gardens, which few if my friends are as interested in.
If I want fine dining and cocktails - friends
If I want coastal walks -DH
Comedy shows/gigs - depends on who is performing

Abracadabra12345 · 08/02/2025 12:04

It also depends on what your husband is like on holiday. My friend and I are very laid back and compatible holiday wise, my husband gets a bit stressy and it's less fun if I'm honest. Plus, seeing each other so much at home, it's nice to take breaks.

My favourite of all ( rare) is solo though

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 08/02/2025 12:07

Both. I love going away with my partner and we do regularly just the two of us. I also love trips with friends.

TwistedWonder · 08/02/2025 12:53

I’m single now but when I was married both as they were very different trips.

With DH we had very chilled relaxing holidays whereas with friends it was more of a partying trip.

Though now I’m older and in go with friends our holidays abroad are more chilled around the pool and a few cocktails at night.

strawberryShorty · 08/02/2025 13:36

I'm single so hypothetical for me but definitely a partner!

SnowyintheATL · 08/02/2025 14:02

Depends on the partner. With my ex I preferred going with friends every time. With a different ex he was my best friend and really got me, plus we shared a lot of the same interests so I preferred being with him over friends 99% of the time

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 08/02/2025 14:04

Friends! Trips with friends are amazing.

Waitingfordoggo · 08/02/2025 15:38

Husband, definitely. I had a nice couple of nights away last summer with a friend but I love city breaks with my DH more.

CrushingOnRubies · 08/02/2025 16:25

Dp! We are more in sync about what we want when it comes to a trip away then in with my friends.

ApolloandDaphne · 08/02/2025 16:25

I like both. I also love going away with my adult DDs. Each group does different things so I get a good spread of culture/arts/gigs/eating/drinking/shopping/spa etc.

sunshineandshowers40 · 08/02/2025 16:31

Partner.

kiraric · 08/02/2025 16:33

DH any day

I do go away with my friends but I have only really done that since I had kids as it's nice to get away without children but we have no family support so the best we can do is take turns and go with friends

CarpetKnees · 08/02/2025 17:03

Don't think it is either / or.
I like going away with dh, and I also like going away with a friend.
I also like going away with one of my adult dc.

Different people for different occasions. DH and I both have things one of us loves and the other hates, so we each prefer to go away with a friend if that sort of a break - can't see the point in one being miserable or "putting up with" doing something they don't want to and can't see the point of living life without doing something you love because your partner doesn't - go and find someone who shares that passion.
But, I also like our holidays together.

CharlieAndMoose · 08/02/2025 17:09

I go away with my friends every year - that hasn't changed just because I'm married (though I'm currently pregnant so this will be the first year without our annual girls' trip). I enjoy doing both, but being completely honest I have more fun with my friends 😂 DH and I tend to do more staycations and domestic travel which is nice but not as relaxing as a foreign trip and time away from home.

SecondMrsTanqueray · 08/02/2025 17:12

I love nothing more than a weekend away with just my husband.

I do weekends with girlfriends and we both do them with other couples too, but we have a few breaks a year for a night or two, just the two of us, and it’s heaven.

Husband

Funnysausage · 08/02/2025 10:45

Definitely my friends! Spend LOADS of time with my OH as it is, whereas seeing close friends is a massive treat. And, tbh, going away with them would be more fun...

Same!

MelisandeLongfield · 08/02/2025 17:14

My husband - would hate the element of best behaviour involved when going away with a friend.

Jennifershuffles · 08/02/2025 17:16

Partner 💯

CandyCane457 · 08/02/2025 17:54

Mixed.

I love going away with my partner as he’s my best friend, and we can just do what we want, please ourselves totally. We always have a great time and I feel so content and happy when I’m away with him.

I have a group of 6 girlfriends and we go away loosely twice a year, one long weekend in a European city/beach type place and one cosy uk autumnal Airbnb with a hot tub type weekend. I find I don’t look forward to these trips as much, there’s a lot of logistics and planning, as we like to be “extra”… but when I’m there I have a blast and usually keep the memories with me for a long time.

JudgeBread · 08/02/2025 17:57

Husband every time. At the risk of sounding terribly corny, he's my best friend and we've travelled a lot and always had a lovely time. We're very similar in how we travel so do very well even on the kind of holidays where we're just doing fuck all for two weeks. Meanwhile travel with friends has been a mixed bag of absolutely lovely and world war three.

mindutopia · 08/02/2025 18:37

Definitely would not want to go away with friends. I have been there and done that and happy not to do it again. Though maybe I just have weird friends with weird hangups who are not easy to travel with. I quite like traveling on my own, but I don’t mind going with Dh either.

Partner because we like the same stuff (where to stay, eat, walk, explore)

Love trips with friends too, though

Fawn87 · 08/02/2025 18:40

Husband. I've never been away with friends or had any desire to. I usually prefer his company over anyone else's, unless it's a night out drinking then it's more fun with a mate but I do still enjoy going with him too.

MaggieBsBoat · 08/02/2025 18:41

My husband. Every time. But i think I have to mask to a certain extent with friends and it’s exhausting after any length of time.
