Neighbours cameras in back garden

youllsan · 30/07/2024 08:47

We have neighbours around us who have cameras up high on their houses so we have no privacy in our back garden.
There is no need for this as could have put cameras up half way on their houses and would not have infringed on our privacy.
I think this is weird and intrusive.
What do others think?

I have cameras half way up my house and you can only see my garden. Theirs are probably the same.

youllsan · 30/07/2024 08:48

Also difficult to cover cameras as so high up but don't enjoy our garden now and it's really beginning to p... us off.

Are you sure they can see into your garden? Can you go round and ask to see what the cameras cover?

If they do and your neighbours refuse to move them, I'd go to the police.

StrawberryFire · 30/07/2024 08:50

Ask to see what they can see on the camera? Mine is high up but only sees my garden.

Obviously not, as their cameras are 'up high'

ByCupidStunt · 30/07/2024 08:52

Go and talk to them.

Blisterly · 30/07/2024 08:53

Is it the only point they can fix them? Ours are just above our back door and can still see a bit of other gardens as we are terrace.

I can see a lot more of their garden looking out the window though!

itsgoingtobeabumpyride · 30/07/2024 08:54

My ndn has cameras high up but can only see their own garden, I can see the cameras so it's easy to assume if I can see them they can see me.
Ndn is very proud of his cameras as he installed them himself so he's shown me on his phone what they cover.
He also adjusted the front cameras to cover the front of my house too, very nice of him.
You could just ask what the cameras cover

Ours are high - can't see neighbours garden at all. They are high so that they can't easily be reached to tamper with. (As a PP said I can easily view several gardens from my upstairs windows.....) Why do you think your neighbours are sitting in their house watching what you do in your garden?!

converseandjeans · 30/07/2024 09:01

I'd hate that. I don't understand why people are filming everything. As a child/teenager I would have hated being filmed in our family home. It's such an invasion of privacy.

converseandjeans · 30/07/2024 09:03

YANBU to want to check if neighbour is filming you!

LlynTegid · 30/07/2024 09:04

Talk to them first.

GodspeedJune · 30/07/2024 09:04

Back gardens are considered private spaces and you would have grounds to report this to the police as a breach of privacy. Front gardens that can be viewed and accessed by the public are different.

brunettemic · 30/07/2024 09:13

Just go and ask them. Why does it matter though, what are you doing that’s so interesting you think they’re going to download the video, save it and watch over and over again? Drug fuelled garden orgies? Cutting up dead bodies?

Don't know
One of neighbours camera has changed position so pointing in our garden rather than theirs!
Also cameras do not need to be at top of houses to see an intruder.
Can be halfway up house so neighbours aren't overlooking other people's gardens.
I don't get it!!

Not doing anything to the person who asked but usual normal stuff but got a camera pointing at me on chair.
My question to anyone asking this why do you need cameras so high on house? Dont know anyone that tall🤣!
Just feels weird and uncomfortable and unnecessary.

Exactly
We have teenagers and they hate it!

If the camera is connected to mains electricity, it's best to have it positioned near an upstairs power socket. My drive can't be seen from the house so I have a camera up high for the reason stated. I then set the view to include just my car, drive and side gate. Although it looks as if it can film my neighbour's house and garden, it doesn't. Ask your neighbours before jumping to conclusions.

Yeah they are going to tell us!
Oh yes we have camera pointing in your garden as we are making films of you. I don't think so. F.....g weirdos

No one is jumping to conclusion but they aren't going to say and I think it would have been courteous if they had mentioned before installing.

Anything but I don't want a camera pointing at me!
Thats reasonable isn't it?!

Why is this a thread? Just go and ask them 🤣

AquaFurball · 30/07/2024 09:25

File a complaint with your local council

Combattingthemoaners · 30/07/2024 09:25

I actually don’t think you can point your cameras into other people’s private property without permission. You should go and have a chat with them.
