I found an engagement ring!!!!!

ThisMustBeMyDream · 03/07/2024 12:00

After almost 7 years together and hoping that I'd get a proposal... I've just accidentally found the ring!!!!!!!! Putting his flaming underwear away, stuffed at the back of the drawer! Of course I looked... tried it on... it's exactly what I'd wanted and is my size! I'm overjoyed! But annoyed I found it too!

I can't tell anyone of course... I have to keep it all in! But... ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! I'm just so freakin' excited!!!!!!!

I really hope he does it soon... he knows I don't do flashy, public things. So I'm hoping it's romantic and just the two of us, or just our family (we both have children from previous relationships). He knows me so well though so I'm sure it will be lovely. He's a teacher, so I'm guessing something might happen over the summer holidays 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞. Or perhaps it could be later this year near my 40th. I'm guessing it won't be for my 40th though, he wouldn't do it then. But he might do it around that time.

Sorry for all the exclamations marks! I'm a little excited as you can probably tell. Grin

I couldn’t be dealing with this - what is wrong with him?

Justgorgeous · 14/08/2024 10:58

Don’t want to spoil his moment ? You have put pictures of him up on a forum and pictures of where the ring is. I wonder how he would feel if he found out about this post.

What's wrong with him? What's wrong with OP??? 75 posts obsessing over a proposal instead of enjoying her holiday.

If she wants it that badly she either speaks to him or proposes herself.

@BetteLaSwet Are you a child? What grown up writes 'ewwww' on a post? Very strange behaviour from an adult.

Oh thank you. I do prefer not to follow the herd 😂

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 14/08/2024 11:04

OP I just want to say how lovely you are. I think so many times the excitement boils over and we tend to want to make things about us but I love the idea that you don't want to spoil his moment. You sound ideally suited and truly in love with each other, rather than with the idea of being love. I hope you will have a long and happy marriage.

Bunnykins34 · 14/08/2024 11:05

Oh boy I've been following this thread and my anxiety is through the roof for you 😆
Someone may of all ready said this BUT.....What time is your flight Friday? Now have u considered a possibility of him proposing on the plane on the way home?! One of those where he somehow sneakily speaking to an airhostess to see if he can propose over the plane intercom thingymabob?!!!!

Not to mention told us all how he got someone casual up the duff and she dumped him when she got the pregnancy test.

To repeat my previous (childish apparently 😂) post

Ewwwww

Hardknocks · 14/08/2024 11:12

Oh OP - I did exactly the same thing! DH took me away and we had the PERFECT opportunity, we were sat around a fire just the two of us, really romantic and he said he was popping inside to get the marshmallows to toast and I thought bloody hell this is it, but nope!

Instead, we were walking along the beach talking about lunch, he said I had two options, afternoon tea or a restaurant and I was debating and then he said "actually there's a third option" and dropped to one knee and even though I knew it was coming, that moment completely took me by surprise and I was so glad!

Try to just enjoy your holiday - he is waiting for HIS right moment and it will come x

I am 100% sure that he will ask. I know him very, very, VERY well. If he has bought the ring, he is asking.
I'm just beginning to convince myself it might not be on holiday, maybe it just hasn't felt right? It has been fairly stressful with the kids. His daughter has been quite whingy, and my son has had several autistic meltdowns (big ones at that). Change in routine and all that... maybe he has re-thought it and decided a different time would be better?
I won't ask him. I am sure he wants to do it properly. I don't want to spoil his moment.

DH carried the ring around for ages before proposing, at one point we were in a beautiful field of lavender on a walk and for some reason he didn't do it then....

MrsMacGyver · 14/08/2024 11:22

OP I am in Australia and have been checking in the middle of the night! Daytime in Europe. Such a lovely thread. Fingers crossed for a holiday proposal ❤️

I do think putting a photo up of him (even from the back) plus all the identifying and very personal info re his previous relationship is a bit iffy OP. Maybe worth asking Mumsnet to delete some of those bits in retrospect?

As you'll see I've told others I think they've been unkind in trying to burst your bubble so this isn't me doing that!

Just having taken a step back, if my partner posted quite so much identifying stuff (including a photo of me, our location and details of a quite traumatic previous relationship) on a big forum like this where it's not that unlikely someone may recognise those details / the pic, I would be very upset.

It would be a shame for a nice thing to be tainted by him being upset about the thread. Just a thought! Enjoy the rest of your holiday!

pontipinemum · 14/08/2024 11:46

All very tense! I can't believe he hasn't asked yet. My DH proposed on holidays even though we were going to be going to much more romantic places he proposed the 1st day because he was too nervous to wait

Seconded. I'd ask to have the whole thread taken down- it's completely identifying and given how prominent it is on the site, really likely that it will get back to him. Taking the thread down might also help you feel a bit more relaxed about the whole thing.

Othersideofworld · 14/08/2024 11:52

I’m in Australia and more excited about this than the new episodes of Love is Blind UK!!!

Try to pop it out of your mind, be your best self and time will do the rest!!

SweetBirdsong · 14/08/2024 11:54

SeriouslyWorriedEars · 14/08/2024 10:38

Maybe I'm odd but I don't get why people are so excited about an internet stranger waiting for a proposal. 🤷‍♀️

Hmmm, yeah this. ^ This thread was started 6 weeks ago, and I first saw the thread bumped back up by the OP nearly a week ago when she and her partner went on holiday. I thought 'this is a cute thread, it looks like her partner is sneaking the engagement ring on holiday, and is going to propose to her there. What a lovely, romantic story.' And I posted to say as much - around 5 days ago. But I'm a bit bored now to be honest.

And now the OP says 'the proposal' is quite likely not going to happen on this holiday now anyway, and is already asking people for suggestions for the title of the next thread. Confused The rate this thread has gone, there will be a third one.

I'm not grumpy, with a sad life either, as some posters have accused others of being (who are finding the situation a bit weird or boring.) I do think the posters checking the thread multiple times a day, and hardly able to sleep thinking about it, and living on tenterhooks, and who are so SO excited about it all, need to perhaps get out a little bit more, or get a hobby though. 😬

I hope you get what you want @ThisMustBeMyDream And you and your partner are happy together. But this has dragged on too much for me now, and the TMI posts about how and when you got together and who left who was enough for me. And now it's going to carry on into another thread.

So I'm out, and will be hiding any subsequent threads. (And as I will inevitably be getting an earbashing for this post, I am hiding this thread too immediately.)

Poor bloke. I hope she never tells him.

She may not but I can almost guarantee that a 'friend' of her will, especially if she and friend have an argument. Imagine being in the position of having to keep all one's friends on side, forever!

Is it a public occasion?

Agree. I've got to watch my words here but I think:

A, The OP is displaying narcissistic behaviour with this ongoing thread, or just adores being the centre of attention.

Or
B, She posted thinking it would be a short thread but others have projected their romantic ideals onto her - and she now feels obliged to carry this thread on out of politeness-because, really, who gives a shit about a random stranger getting engaged? It's barmy.

ikeo · 14/08/2024 12:14

Agree that it is very identifying, especially as OP also shared her SD’s first name.

Stigsmother · 14/08/2024 12:15

Placemarking for the next thread, but I hope it doesn't get that far OP 😊

Agree that it is very identifying, especially as OP also shared her SD’s first name.

The other issue is that her previous threads are visible and create an 'autobiography'.
