I found an engagement ring!!!!!

1000 replies

ThisMustBeMyDream · 03/07/2024 12:00

After almost 7 years together and hoping that I'd get a proposal... I've just accidentally found the ring!!!!!!!! Putting his flaming underwear away, stuffed at the back of the drawer! Of course I looked... tried it on... it's exactly what I'd wanted and is my size! I'm overjoyed! But annoyed I found it too!

I can't tell anyone of course... I have to keep it all in! But... ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! I'm just so freakin' excited!!!!!!!

I really hope he does it soon... he knows I don't do flashy, public things. So I'm hoping it's romantic and just the two of us, or just our family (we both have children from previous relationships). He knows me so well though so I'm sure it will be lovely. He's a teacher, so I'm guessing something might happen over the summer holidays 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞. Or perhaps it could be later this year near my 40th. I'm guessing it won't be for my 40th though, he wouldn't do it then. But he might do it around that time.

Sorry for all the exclamations marks! I'm a little excited as you can probably tell. Grin

Yes! I wasn't aware of this abbreviation though 😂

Thiswayforward · 13/08/2024 14:57

I didn’t find my engagement ring but my partner kept it in a really safe place in his car. 🙄 He acted like a complete weirdo when I nearly found it and slammed the drawer shut in the car. Turned out he had bought it months previously. This thread could go on for years with us all overly invested op!! Fingers crossed it’s soon!!

Collie86 · 13/08/2024 15:19

omg this is so frikin exciting!! congrats ahead of time!! keep us posted!

I posted on another thread once about still being in the honeymoon stage 5 years in. Well at almost 7 years, I can confirm I am still very much in the honeymoon stage and I think he is too!
I still get butterflies when I see him. Sad, maybe, but he is everything I ever wanted in a partner and also what I didn't know I needed. Soppy, but true. Romance isn't dead at 40 here! I don't care if I sound like a lovestruck teenager, because I feel like one. And I'm not ashamed! We're a long time dead!

Making me want to cry at work as this is so cute 🥹 I feel the same about my DH, we’ve been together 15 years, married eleven and he just makes my heart leap with how wonderful he is in every way. Just a lovely person. I have so much to thank my late MIL for, raising the best man that ever existed.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 13/08/2024 15:29

Just checking in…

My mum would have said the same about my dad. And so would his mistress....

Don't put people on pedestals.

This advice is just too sensible.

There's something to be said for the fact that you don't seem to be enjoying the holiday because you are just waiting. I'm not sure I agree with telling him you've found the ring now - I think maybe the moment has passed- but if you can try and focus on having a good time and not 'waiting'.

I think there is a lot in the post above from @PyongyangKipperbang about the cautionary tale with the woman who found a ring, got excited waiting on holiday, created situations where he could propose and then it didnt happen and he later said planned to but she was "acting weird" so he didnt as he thought it might mean she would say no.

I'd like to think if I was in that situation and I found a ring that I'd have told my bf straight away. It's more honest and direct and avoids all this faking of normalcy.

Doggymummar · 13/08/2024 12:54

Are you sure the ring is your size, and not a gift for his daughter? 😔 Hope I'm wrong did you try it on and it's definitely a n adults ring?

I was thinking the same thing and wondered how old his daughter is

@BusyCM That’s what I thought 😵‍💫

That's because you're both just nasty... why would you even post that... little green eyed are you!

At least he'll know she'll say yes 🤣

Workhardcryharder · 13/08/2024 16:15

I’m waiting eagerly for the big moment! 😂

NippyCrab · 13/08/2024 16:31

@ListentotheButterflies I didn't say you did.

Hardly

NippyCrab · 13/08/2024 16:37

Awww maybe he is going to get his daughter to say, @ThisMustBeMyDream will you marry my Daddy?
Are you going to any shows that involve audience participation? 😂😂❤️❤️❤️💍💍💍

Fannyfiggs · 13/08/2024 17:13

Jeez, there's some right mood hoovers on this thread.

I beg of you, please allow us to have a wee bit of enjoyment in OP being excited about her forthcoming engagement.

CoffeeLover90 · 13/08/2024 17:24

FFS. Everytime I see a notification for this thread, my hearts in my mouth 😂 how on earth you're keeping it together I don't know. I'm so bloody excited!

HavingABitOfAMare · 13/08/2024 17:26

I just found this thread and idly scrolled through to find the proposal.

But SIX weeks, 69 replies from the OP and still nothing? 😳

That's an awful lot of drama for a 7 year relationship. I'd honestly just tell him I found it, I mean it's not like he hid it very well anyway 🤷‍♂️

MaryMack · 13/08/2024 17:30

So no proposal yet?

<sigh>

So OP shows partner a ring and says how much she loves it, and partner buys it for his daughter....

Mumsnet never disappoints with the little sparky posts, especially when OP is so pleased.
...oh let's bring her down a peg or two eh?

Life’s too short for pissing on people’s cornflakes.

InkyPinkyPonky24 · 13/08/2024 17:48

Just finished reading the whole thread...I am so invested in this 😆.

Can't wait for the update OP and hope you're having a lovely holiday.

sunnywithmeatbols · 13/08/2024 17:52

Life’s too short for pissing on people’s cornflakes.

I wasn't one of the cornflake pissers but

pointing out that sometimes life does give you lemons isn't necessarily a bad thing - it's good to be prepared mentally for that because it's less of a shock and helps coping with a disappointment

and also you are forgetting

some people really enjoy pissing on cornflakes so for them life isn't long enough to piss!!!
