I found an engagement ring!!!!!

After almost 7 years together and hoping that I'd get a proposal... I've just accidentally found the ring!!!!!!!! Putting his flaming underwear away, stuffed at the back of the drawer! Of course I looked... tried it on... it's exactly what I'd wanted and is my size! I'm overjoyed! But annoyed I found it too!

I can't tell anyone of course... I have to keep it all in! But... ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! I'm just so freakin' excited!!!!!!!

I really hope he does it soon... he knows I don't do flashy, public things. So I'm hoping it's romantic and just the two of us, or just our family (we both have children from previous relationships). He knows me so well though so I'm sure it will be lovely. He's a teacher, so I'm guessing something might happen over the summer holidays 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞. Or perhaps it could be later this year near my 40th. I'm guessing it won't be for my 40th though, he wouldn't do it then. But he might do it around that time.

Sorry for all the exclamations marks! I'm a little excited as you can probably tell. Grin

But why can’t men have something? It seems like all MN posters want to do is take stuff away from them…I personally don’t see how proposing would be giving him power but so what? Why can’t he have it for this moment?

Exactly! My (now married) older DD is a staunch feminist, all for womens rights, champions women being promoted in the workplace, and doing what they want with their life, and being treated well, and having the same opportunities as men. She is a well-educated professional post-graduate who is on the mid 5 figures in her job (in her late 20s,) in middle management at work, and she is all for equal rights. And she was NEVER changing her surname if she got married!

She was with her (now) husband for 7 years before they got married, (in 2022,) and she really did want to get married (after they'd been together around 3-4 years,) but would not ask him. She wanted him to ask her. She just wanted that traditional, romantic proposal, and to be able to excitedly squeal, and show everyone the amazing ring he bought her.

I am sure a few posters on here would mock and deride her for this though, for being such a silly wet lettuce, waiting for her man to pop the question. 🙄Ya know 'letting the side down' and 'giving the man the power!'

FFS! Hmm

Oh and this will send shock waves through the man haters. SHE CHANGED HER SURNAME TO HIS!

I know right, shocking! Shock

NotARealWookiie · 09/08/2024 18:10

Oh my god I’m so excited for you OP…

LegoTherapy · 09/08/2024 18:14

I'm a staunch feminist and as cynical as they come but threads like this create a warm glow of not all is bad with the world and that romance isn't dead. I'm happy spending my life single but I wish OP a wonderful holiday, proposal and life with her soon to be finance 🥰

SeriouslyWorriedEars · 09/08/2024 14:24

I'm finding this all seriously old fashioned. Waiting to be asked.... bollocks to that

And they say romance is dead!

Inastatus · 09/08/2024 18:49

Just came across this thread and I am fully invested! I’m looking forward to the updates. Good luck OP.

Greytulips · 09/08/2024 18:58

I’m excited for you!!!

Ahh the suspense!

UpUpUpU · 09/08/2024 18:59

Love this thread! Cannot wait to hear the proposal story ❤

hollyblueivy · 09/08/2024 19:02

How are you keeping yourself together?! Are you being extra lovely to each other both knowing what's coming without knowing the other person knows?!

So lovely to read a positive thread and we are all behind you in one of your happiest moments to be!!!

Denialisagirlsbestfriend · 09/08/2024 19:06

When DH proposed it was on the first night of our holiday, he couldn’t take the anticipation or stress I’d find the ring any longer. I hope you don’t have to wait long into your holiday either 🤞🏻

This is so lovely! It just goes to show doesn’t it that (usually) it’s purely about the tradition and romantic side of it - a lot of people think that there’s an alterior motive but actually let’s just let it be for what it is…A man showing a woman how much he loves her and wants to be committed to her 🤷‍♀️.

Like I said, men get bashed for sooo many things now, let’s not take this away from them, or us too x

Oooh, how exciting, happy for you OP! We need a few uplifting posts like this. Do come back and tell us about the proposal though! 🙌

CherieBabySpliffUp · 09/08/2024 19:17

I hope whenever and wherever he proposes, it's amazing.

It's not in the drawer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My husband proposed on holiday! I touched his leg in the car and he almost had kittens, I had no idea the ring box was stuffed in his pocket. He must have been super on it at security, I didn't notice a thing.

He proposed on day 4 of our holiday when we went on a day trip to somewhere we'd been before and loved. It was really romantic. I couldn't have planned a better proposal for myself 😆

Enjoy yourself!

Travelkettle · 09/08/2024 20:00

Have been watching this thread and not posted before but bloody hell I'm invested now.

Let us know what happens OP!

I think they are still travelling out! We might need to be patient.

I doubt he’ll do it on the first day anyway.

I just hope he does actually do it and hasn’t just moved it and is planning to do it when he gets home.

OP (and all the MNers) are expected it this holiday!!! 😁

Ponkpinkpink15 · 09/08/2024 20:25

@ThisMustBeMyDream

I'm glad I only just (well a good hour ago!!) & have been in suspense sine 3rd July!

it's a very pretty ring!

are there any significant dates while you're away that he might wait for?

How old are the kids? Do you think they'll be excited?

my friends daughter (11 going on 21), typically hormone driven monstrous brat (at the moment!!) made the sweetest speech at her Mums recent wedding. Very touching!!

can't wait to see the ring in your hand, I'm very taken with it!!

ItsNotYou852 · 09/08/2024 20:29

What a lovely thread, can't wait for the update, and bollocks to the naysayers, it's just charming and romantic, we need a little more of that in our lives!
