Holiday with new partner and embarrassing problem

I’m so embarrassed. I’ve had a fungal nail
infection which has spread from my middle toe to big toe nail. It’s now thickened and looks obvious. I’ve been to the docs and got a lacquer and that’s all fine but I’m going on holiday for 2 weeks with a new partner and I’ve managed to hide it from him so far but he’s bound to see it by the pool and I can’t wear closed toe shoes all the time or he’ll think I’m weird! Im rubbish at doing my own nails at the best of time so I want to get a
pedicure to at least disguise it while im
away but google has come up with no salons that offer pedicures for people with nail infections so I don’t know what to do. Help! Anyone else has this issue? Anyone know what I can do?

Thanks everyone. I feel so much better. He’s a great guy I doubt he would give a shit. It’s purely me. Probably didn’t help that I was inspecting it with a magnifying glass last night 😂 I highly doubt he will do that and if he did then yes I would dump him 😂

I wouldn't use the phrase fungal tbh. I'd say the skin got sore and infected so you have to use this stuff. Fungal is what sounds gross. And also he might worry about catching it (I would).
Not that you're gross just the sound of it is.

Campestris · 04/06/2024 14:05

I would point it out to him 'Look at my gammy toe!!' and just own it basically.

SpringleDingle · 04/06/2024 14:43

I have a rotting foot - it's a strange excema on the sole of one foot. I have regularly discussed my rotting foot with my boyfriend and he still fancies me! Your fungal toe will go unnoticed :)

We all have imperfections whether temporary or permanent.

I lost my big tonail when a heavy piece of furniture was dropped on it. It grew back, but it won't ever be the same.

Enjoy your hols!

I used the nailner varnish to cover over mine when I was treating it a few years ago. It worked fine just to make them look at bit better. I'm sure you don't need to worry though.

I hate feet and spend as little time as possible looking at them - both mine and anyone else's 😂

perfectcolourfound · 04/06/2024 16:50

I'd tell him about it. Opennes and honesty are healthy in a relationship. If he doesn't react well, you know he isn't good partner material (as let's face it, there are far more 'embarassing' problems our bodies go through in a lifetime).

boobyandthebeast · 05/06/2024 07:33

I never wear open toed shoes. No one has ever noticed let alone thought or called me weird.

ilovethesunnydays · 05/06/2024 08:22

Margaret Dabbs clinics offer a treatment for fungal nails. I use them for medical pedicures, and they are very professional and effective. I don't have fungal nails, so can't comment on that treatment, but it's worth your while investigating it.

I'll probably get flamed fir this but it's really worked for me and looked much better in a week. I filed the nail down a bit to make the surface rough. I then soaked my feet in hot salt water for 15 minutes took them out and dried them. I then took a 'bleach pen' for shirt cuffs and collars and carefully applied it to the nail avoiding touching the surrounding skin and let it soak in and almost dry. The bleach will soak through the softened nail and both kill and whiten the mushy green fungus on the nail bed. I did it for 6 weeks and it has completely cleared up. If your skin does start burning or going red swill it off, yes it's a radical way to treat it but it works but take care to only apply it to the nail.

vacay · 05/06/2024 08:47

I agree with a pp he won't be looking, aslong as you haven't got fungal fanny he really wont give a shite

But I would still paint it for your holidays !!

NippyCrab · 05/06/2024 08:51

Have you called and asked asked a few salons if they will give you a pedicure with the nail? I've had gel toes with fungal nails, even if they charge more it's worth it for nice toes in sandals.
Be honest with him, it's contagious, I had nice toes until my ex husband passed the infection to me.

ManilowBarry · 05/06/2024 09:03

Use this twice a day and the appearance of the nail will quickly be transformed. It's miraculous stuff!

It removes the discolouring of the nail by eliminating the latest in which the fungus is feeding on.

mindutopia · 05/06/2024 09:25

I've been married to dh for 16 years and I honestly can't say I've ever noticed his toenails. Men really don't care about these things.

Pozz · 05/06/2024 09:29

Put a plaster over it?

Underestimated4 · 06/06/2024 21:49

Gel nails; this is what I do to hide mine.

Or just paint your toe nails. And take your vanish to top it up everyday.

I highly doubt he will care.

Victoriancat · 06/06/2024 21:51

Unless he likes putting your feet in his mouth I doubt he'll care

Can I ask, did you do this every day for 6 weeks? Willing to try it!!

Search a chiropodist

cansu · 06/06/2024 22:08

Get the nail thinned at a podiatrist. I have one. When it is filed and thinned out it looks much better.

beckybarefoot · 06/06/2024 22:09

how long have you been seeing your new partner, i assume as you are going on holiday its not in the 'first flush' of romance and that you have slept together?

he's probably already seen it unless you sleep in your socks

Maryamlouise · 06/06/2024 22:15

Another vote for the tea tree oil - won't work in time for the holiday but hopefully will longer term. Seems to have fixed mine though having to wait for the Discoloured but to grow out

beanii · 06/06/2024 22:57

Just cover it with nail polish that's what I did 🤷🏻‍♀️

Tablets from the doctor work better than the lacquer too.

Maelil01 · 06/06/2024 23:01

Nailner do a nail colour which treats as well as hiding the problem nail. You’ll get by for a fortnight.
