Boyfriend acts like he’s YouTube-famous

And not as a joke. He has had A YouTube channel for a couple of years and it has a few hundred subscribers. I’m supportive of him and wouldn’t tell him but he’s not actually that good at it. Hardly anyone watches his videos. There’s nothing particularly distinctive about his videos to draw an audience. He is just a random man talking about things he isn’t really qualified to talk about, and why would someone listen to his opinion? I don’t think he has really gone and done much research, and I can’t see why anyone would actually be interested in the videos. He acts like he’s famous, many people have made fun of him. it’s embarrassing. I feel like he’s too old to be acting like this.

Having a YouTube channel as a hobby to talk about something he was knowledgeable about would probably be fine.

Talking a load of bollocks and then acting like he's famous is embarrassingly bad.

You would be surprised at how many who do it truly believe they are famous just because they are on it, it's not just him it's everywhere.

Unless you are very good and offering something unique or lucky, YouTube takes a very long time to become famous levels. Nobody sees you, watches or comments it takes a long time to build up momentum.

I'm a guy who does it but not in a genre where I'm talking about things, I don't talk or have a camera. I have a following that's growing, I get views and lots of comments. I am getting known in my genre, but I don't see myself as famous nor am I expecting to be. If it happens then great but not losing sleep over it.

Your partner is likely trying too hard on his image or popularity, that doesn't exist, rather than on his content. Even then it's a massive pool and slim chances even be noticed anyway.

So from what you've said so far, quite likely delusional. I would not be telling people either IRL unless I was actually massively famous.

Wants to be a footballer but going to be a mechanic....... he is in his 30s....... Fair enough to decide to switch career paths in your 30s, but I am guessing he hasn't even started to develop one. By that age most people are in some sort of career, or experienced at something.

Also, for those who are saying it's cringe in say 30s, in some cases, like this one it may well be.

However, YouTube isn't for young people only and if you are semi successful you can earn a lot of money, more so than working and with the potential of becoming extremely rich.

This is the end goal for majority who are doing it, the chase of being a millionaire. However, it's not easy at all and requires a hell of a lot of effort and persistence, and you actually have to be good at it.

The wannabe footballer is enough Walter Mitty for me.
My DIL has a great career but has a huge following on Instagram. She views it as a hobby and does it because of a love of the subject. She seems to have hit upon an area that interests others. The amount of companies asking for collaborations and offering expensive gifts is ridiculous. This doesn't sound like your boyfriend. He is only successful on SM in his own mind.
