Do you like this engagement ring?

My boyfriend has proposed with a temporary ring and has said I can pick the ring I want. (something I’ve always wanted to do).

I don’t want anything too expensive as I don’t particularly like jewellery and don’t want to spend thousands.

I have found one I like, very simple and not fancy at all but does it look like an engagement ring? What are your thoughts?

I know I’lol be the one wearing it but just wanted to know opinions on the style.

thanks

The first ring is very like my ring - I don't have an engagement ring just this one simple band. I really didn't want a big rock and I didn't want to wear two rings. So, obviously I like it! I do recommend trying on, pick something you love.

PonyPatter44 · 28/03/2023 17:50

The one in the second picture is lovely!

Thank you so much. I just want something simple, I know I want something platinum but that’s about it!

I think you should go for a plain eternity ring with diamonds ( so basically what you’ve chosen but without the dip). It would still be simple, but striking.

as PPs have pointed out, its curved to accommodate an engagement ring… think it would just look strange on its own. Don’t think those rings are designed to be worn alone.

if you wanted a curved or twisted band, then it would be better to get one that’s designed to stand alone- will sit better on your finger

God who cares if it's an 'eternity' style ring. You lot are such sticklers for old fashioned rules. If she likes it who cares. It's nice and understated, just what OP says she likes.

slowquickstep · 28/03/2023 17:56

You don't have to have a ring if you really don't want one

begoneday · 28/03/2023 18:00

It’s beautiful! Elegant and understated .

Sassyfox · 28/03/2023 18:03

I think they’re all lovely.

I don’t know what an eternity ring is but I wouldn’t care, if I liked it then I’d get it.

No one is going to care or barely look at your engagement or wedding rings (I’ve honestly lost count of the amount that people have shown and I honestly cannot remember even 1 of them).

Get the one that you like the best, not what think someone else might like.

I like the idea of going in and trying them on.
You don’t have to buy it there and then you can say you’re torn and need to think about it or go without your DP and say he’s going to come in a buy it.

Sassyfox · 28/03/2023 18:04

I also really like the dip and think it would look really nice on its own.

Suetcrust · 28/03/2023 18:11

There’s plenty of advice on here.
If you like the ring with the “dip” in it then that’s all that matters.
Go try it on with a wedding ring to see if you like how they look & fit together.

If I was buying jewellery these days I’d buy second hand. No VAT and better value.
Why not look for shops where they have a pre-loved section in their window. Locally in my city there’s a fabulous jeweller who only sell second hand stuff and his window is dazzling. Beautiful vintage high quality items alongside plenty of modern items the likes of which you might prefer. Lush!

I love the first one. A plain platinum wedding band will look lovely with that

Crikeyalmighty · 28/03/2023 18:16

I think it's lovely

MrsWidgerysLodger · 28/03/2023 18:18

ADORE that second one you posted. You could get something similar to the first for your wedding ring (either with or without stones depending on your preference)

changerlot · 28/03/2023 18:19

What about something like this. Very similar to your original photo, but without the curve.

MissLucyLiu · 28/03/2023 18:19

It is not an engagement ring! But at the end of the day YOU WEAR WHATEVER you and your man likes/prefer! I am sure it will look elegant!

Geppili · 28/03/2023 18:22

I love the second one. I have a half eternity ring like the first but not curved, and the diamond half ALWAYS ends up facing my palm. It is really annoying!

Geppili · 28/03/2023 18:23

Also you need to match metals for engagement and wedding rings.

Pinkbananas01 · 28/03/2023 18:23

Simple & lovely which is what you say you like. Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks if you are happy & will wear it. I'm not a great wearer of jewellery & chose something not too expensive but which I loved for similar reasons, did have a few comments but honestly don't care, I love it & have worn it daily ever since, been married over 20yrs. Still don't wear other jewellery apart from wedd8ng ringm

DisforDarkChocolate · 28/03/2023 18:24

It's very like my wedding ring so I love it.

Spanielsarepainless · 28/03/2023 18:24

My engagement ring is a sapphire and diamond eternity ring. It's a ring I got for being engaged!

tinselvestsparklepants · 28/03/2023 18:25

I have a small solitaire in a band of white gold. It was not expensive. It's simple and I love it.

Hiddenvoice · 28/03/2023 18:26

The second one you posted is beautiful and it’s even nicer when you explain that there will be some significance around it being handmade in Cornwall. Overall it’s what you and your fiancé like, doesn’t matter to anyone else!

Sleepyteach · 28/03/2023 18:35

Both rings are beautiful, my eternity ring is a similar style to the first one and I wear that day to day with my wedding ring after my engagement ring was damaged. The only thing I would be wary of with the second one is how fine and delicate it is, will it stand up to years and years of daily wear. I’ve spent a fortune on repairs and replacement stones for my engagement ring so it’s strictly for special occasions only now!

maddiemookins16mum · 28/03/2023 18:37

Its like my wedding ring and my engagement ring sits nicely on it.

elm26 · 28/03/2023 18:38

It's lovely, classy and elegant but I agree it looks like a wedding band.

CatOnTheChair · 28/03/2023 19:20

The platinum ring is beautiful, but shaped. Can you find similar without the curve - I think adding a wedding band will be tricky.

The Cornish ring is much more traditional engagement style. It's also beautiful.

I know nothing about the company I'm about to link to, but I ended up with an engagement ring similar to this:

https://www.glamira.co.uk/glamira-ring-vitaly.html?stone1=diamond-Brillant&alloy=white-585&gclid=CjwKCAjwoIqhBhAGEiwArXT7K3jvC27S6JJCoikMsPHXEovgalgvQgpffZgqWuA2jr3w5tvVV1UanBoClF8QAvD_BwE

Congratulations! Ignore what others say, and pick the ring that makes you smile everything you see it.
