Do you like this engagement ring?

My boyfriend has proposed with a temporary ring and has said I can pick the ring I want. (something I’ve always wanted to do).

I don’t want anything too expensive as I don’t particularly like jewellery and don’t want to spend thousands.

I have found one I like, very simple and not fancy at all but does it look like an engagement ring? What are your thoughts?

I know I’lol be the one wearing it but just wanted to know opinions on the style.

thanks

It could be a bit of twisted wire if that's what you want as an engagement ring. It's only you that matters (well and the love of your life of course).

When my OH proposed we went out and bought me a traditional type ring which was nice. I then bought him an engagement ring which was actually a second hand wedding band. It was plain gold but he liked it.

HermioneWeasley · 28/03/2023 16:27

If you don’t like rings you don’t have to have one at all. I wouldn’t go with that style as an engagement ring as the dip in the band will make it hard to pair with a wedding ring.

Chewbecca · 28/03/2023 16:29

The second, Cornish one is really pretty.

We booked an appointment at Ernest Jones to look at wedding rings. You can try them all on & see what you like.

I ended up with a different ring than I’d been looking at online.

I found it worth the time for the appointment

I agree with this, go and let the jeweller show you some options. I had some very specific ideas but completely changed my mind during the appointment looking at the selection. Years later I have never regretted my choice

I think that the 2nd looks more like an engagement ring than the first.

I prefer it.

You could then have a shaped wedding ring.

Pipsquiggle · 28/03/2023 16:37

Hi @Benji1998

Congratulations!!

Before you decide on a style, I recommend you try lots of different rings on before you make your final choice.

I always thought I wanted a sapphire ring - turns out that sapphires just don't really suit me. Also thought I wanted a single stone on my ring - again, it just didn't really suit me. We bought a lovely engagement ring that I hadn't even thought of - I still love it!

That's the most important thing - is that you love it!

The same advice goes for wedding dresses BTW - try on lots of different styles before you make your choice

Hotvimto3 · 28/03/2023 16:38

Why do you need the curve if its not going to be worn with another ring. Its a wedding or eternity ring.
If you use it as engagement your wedding ring will also require a curve.

BungleandGeorge · 28/03/2023 16:40

The second one is lovely for an engagement ring. Or if you’re not bothered maybe just go for a nice weeding ring and skip the engagement one?

WeWereInParis · 28/03/2023 16:41

It's more important that you like it. I like them both but particularly the second one you posted, which I think is really lovely.

The only thing I'd say is, for either ring think about what wedding ring you'll have next to it. They aren't straight so a traditional wedding ring won't sit flush next to it. Which may not bother you, but worth considering. Also if you don't particularly like jewellery you could get the second one and not have a separate wedding ring. No need for two rings if you don't want them.

Stormydanielss · 28/03/2023 16:44

I have a very understated beautiful engagement ring, my partner picked it. White gold and full front row of diamonds. I love it ❤️
People get all sorts of rings it's whatever you both like

darisdet · 28/03/2023 16:46

Yes. Elegant and understated.

pontipinemum · 28/03/2023 16:50

It looks similar to my wedding band. Could you look up somewhere that makes jewellery? We had our wedding bands made and strangely it turned out cheaper than the high street and we got exactly what we wanted. My engagement ring was bought by DH on the high St

pontipinemum · 28/03/2023 16:51

Sorry, just saw your 2nd post, teach me for skim reading! The 2nd ring is very pretty.

PollyAmour · 28/03/2023 16:57

I like the Cornish ring, it's beautiful. The first ring is pretty but doesn't look like an engagement ring.

LiliLil · 28/03/2023 16:57

I love the second one!

Pipsquiggle · 28/03/2023 16:58

Which ever engagement ring you go for - particularly if it has a curve - you need to think about the wedding ring and whether you want it flush next to it. The jewellers will probably have a wedding ring style which will pair with the engagement ring

mushroom3 · 28/03/2023 17:02

2nd one is lovely!

Reinventinganna · 28/03/2023 17:06

Not my taste but you are the one that needs to like it.
have a family ring which luckily I love.

FurElsie · 28/03/2023 17:14

I love the timeless style of the first one, will you wear it with a wedding ring? If so maybe go for one without the curve so it sits flush? The other one so pretty and delicate. So many gorgeous rings out there, take your time and enjoy the process 🙂

Have a look st this it's along the lines of what your looking for but is an engagement ring.

Hellno45 · 28/03/2023 17:18

My ring was from the pawn shop not new but I love it.

Newyeardietstartstomorrow · 28/03/2023 17:21

Really pretty and similar to my wedding ring. It'll look beautiful with a matching wishbone wedding ring. Congratulations.

Allthingsbrightandbeautifulx · 28/03/2023 17:31

Love the second one.

Aly2577 · 28/03/2023 17:37

If you don’t want to spend too much then try a pawn shop. They cater for all budgets without the mark up of traditional jewellery shops.

Additionally, you can find something really unique.

I worked in one for a few years and fell in love with some of their rings - it would amaze me how someone would ask to see a ring and it would fit them perfectly.

123wentaway · 28/03/2023 17:37

Love the second. Like the first. Both are pretty & tasteful.
