Tick tock: the one where Geller discovers Polly is no longer a doormat

AKA Co-parenting: I do not think it means what you think it means

Here we go again my lovelies! Will this be the one where I finally get divorced?!

Previous thread here

I have clock news! Turns out, no one wants it. Quelle surprise. Could I sell it? No, sez I, it’s worth ha’penny tuppence on a good day. Plus, no time.

Ha ha.

I suggested, because I am a kind hearted soul and because it’s already in a box and I don’t know which one that they keep the clock face and I get rid of the mechanism and the case. That appears to be a reasonable compromise. Pass me an axe.

The reason for the clock conversation? My brother phoned. My mother has given away my grandfather’s WW1 medals to a museum. WTF?! We’re going to try and get them back. She can’t see what she’s done wrong.

Solicitors on the other side for the house purchase are useless. Estate agent spoke to them today. They are awaiting proof of ID and funds on account?! WTF. I lost my shit a bit. I’d just come back from having a filling so I sounded three gins down, which I’m sure added to the effect.

Oh, and I haven’t stopped laughing for the last hour. A friend has found Geller’s profile on a dating app. It contains such gems as ‘addressing climate change one word at a time in my career as a professional’ and goes on to claim he ‘always has time’

Given me the best laugh I’ve had since my solicitor said she’d call me just to be sure that I wanted to file for absolute once the finance order is made…

Anyway, buckle up loves. It’ll be a ride, as ever…glad you could join me.

Of course you aced it! Onward and upward, the sky is the limit!

Mix56 · 04/05/2022 20:34

What about a tree... an Acer ?? (Maple)
Relatively fast growing, lovely colours in Autumn ...
Do you gave green fingers?

StuckInPollyannaMode · 04/05/2022 16:53

Oh you GUYS! You made me cry again! I couldn’t have done it without you all - I’m thinking I need to plant a Polly Plant or something in the garden to remind me of you all.

@Newestname002 aced it, baby! Doubled our contract for the rest of the year! #winning #thisgirlcan 😆

I'm thrilled for you.

Really really pleased.

Now that the property has been signed for and your presentation has been done, I'm going to be bold and ask what happened with the grandfather clock? You mentioned above about not asking about it but I'm thinking that was more like the Fawlty Towers "don't mention the war" kind of thing...feel free to ignore if you really don't want to talk about it. 😉

Fraaahnces · 05/05/2022 12:02

Gosh Polly! So proud of you!!!! You’re knocking it out of the park!!! Hope that the move isn’t too stressful and that you recover emotionally from the damage done to the clock whilst shifting.

HazelBite · 05/05/2022 12:11

I'm sorry but we all need to know about the clock?????

Lunde · 05/05/2022 12:22

Congratulations Polly 🍾🍸🍹🍷

p.s. tick tock what happened with the clock?

PunishmentSnart · 06/05/2022 13:32

Congratulations on your house and new contract Polly 🙌

StuckInPollyannaMode · 07/05/2022 07:43

Good morning my lovelies

This update comes to you from my new room, fresh off the heels of me having spent my first night in my little house. I actually slept; which for me is a miracle as you know. I’m ignoring the hour I was awake at 3am as I just got up and pottered round to say hello to everything 😁 I have the cat and a coffee, and I’m looking (rather blurrily as I can’t find my glasses) at the top of my cherry tree.

Moving day was a NIGHTMARE. Short version - the cheap movers got halfway through the job and fucked off. Left me with furniture all through the ground floor and garden, when they’d been paid to take the beds and chests of drawers etc upstairs. I was so tired by that point that I sat on the stairs and cried. Sent out a cry for help and within an hour three friends husbands had turned up and we finished the job. And they plumbed in my washing machine.

Westley was driving back from Scotland, before I am asked where he was - by the time he got here there was only one run to do which he did and then shot off to his and cooked me dinner! By 9pm I was collapsed on his sofa nursing a cup of tea in one hand and an Old Fashioned in the other, watching West Wing.

I have far, far too much stuff. And my dad’s car won’t fit in my parking space, so that’s going to be a challenge for the next few weeks. But I don’t care. I’m IN and I love it! I get the Dollies back on Monday so basically spending the weekend sorting. Although I do have a friend’s 40th today - we’re off on a walk and a picnic! Will be a nice change.

The clock is still here. I moved it with me. They now have ten days to get it couriered or it goes. The reason for the delay? I couldn’t find the fucking mechanism 😂 but I have now! I messaged my SIL directly last night

am I green fingered? Ummm. I tend to kill things. I have much enthusiasm. I’m better with shrubs to be honest. Lavender tends to do well with me 😂the garden is desperately overgrown, needs completely hacking back. There’s some lovely plants in it, if you can find them under the giant bushes. But it’s the wrong time of year to cut back hard isn’t it? (No, I haven’t read any of the gardening books I own!)

In the absence of Westley and with the cat seemingly unwilling to go downstairs and make me breakfast, I must go and forage. Moving is hungry work.

oh, and Geller STILL hasn’t signed. But he’s dropped the messaging right off - he has a Girlfriend v2. Whatever. And my mother is sending me long chatty emails which I’m only responding to once a week. I don’t know when she thinks I have the time (I am sending her and my dad pics on the family WhatsApp, I’m not ignoring her, just not engaging in her overly affectionate whatever it is she’s got going on at the moment)

How’s everyone else doing? What news of teenagers and exams this year?

Well I'm glad you're in Polly and thankful you have such good friends to help you out.
I'm jealous you have a cherry tree they are so pretty. We have a lilac which seems to be getting a progressively deeper shade of purple each year, I don't think I'm imagining it!
Enjoy the unpacking and don't be afraid to weed stuff out again as you unpack, sometimes the end of the packing gets so hurried stuff ends up going with just because it's easier to throw it in!

Mix56 · 07/05/2022 08:08

Bravo, a thousand thanks to the
GF DHs...You are in, that chapter is closed. (Can you get a part refund on the unfinished removal?)
Hoorah for Westley. Life is good.
Re garden, you can cut back stuff that you ultimately will remove to get light to stuff you want to keep?
Id get in someone to cut the grass do a spring tidy & advise.. then you & the Dds can enjoy it till the autumn. Or does anyone you know have knowledge/enthusiam/equipment to help with a primary tidy up ?
What Tosspottery is G playing at? Did he hope to scupper the house purchase?
Have you told him NOT to introduce the dollies to v2, within nanoseconds like he did v1 ?
He's going to love that the drive is blocked !!🤗

Mix56 · 07/05/2022 08:15

Try & implement TOTO, (I try)
Touch one time only
So to minimise dithering & uneeded traipsing.
Also what I learned on my first waitressing job. "Never make a trip empty handed", ( I am unable to get my H to comply with this notion.) Why oh why go to the fridge to get out a yoghurt, without removing a part of the finished plates on the table, & dispose if them as you pass by?
Surely 1 trip is better than 2.

RandomMess · 07/05/2022 08:23

Hurrah for being in the house.

Hurrah for poor GF v2 as it will keep him off your back and I reckon he will ask for favours with the Dollies.

Is now the time to move onto taking it to court?

pointythings · 07/05/2022 08:50

I have a cherry tree too! It's old, not going to live that much longer, but it throws a crop of edible cherries every year.

I am an anti gardener - but I have raised beds and can do basic things like lettuce, peas and tomatoes.

And on exams - DD1 graduates on the 21st of July.

Newestname002 · 07/05/2022 09:23

Hurrah!! First night in your own home (shades of ET here - home .. home... home!! 😂). And thank goodness for your lovely friends' lovely (and practical) husbands - so much better than the facsimile of a man who'll very soon, one hopes, be further out of your life. I wish I could see the excitement on the Dollies' faces when they see their new rooms.

Sending you ☕️ and 🍰 plus Gin or 🥃 for much later on. 🌹

@StuckInPollyannaMode
such wonderful news in this update!

I remember the feeling of deep satisfaction when I finally settled post divorce.
The children and I had a friendly ‘presence’; a tall woman who stood at the top of the stairs as you came in.
We all know that the house is empty or if someone is in, however quiet they are, don’t we?
Well, as you walked in through the hall to the bottom of the stairs, there was a sensation in the air. If you glanced up she disappeared, leaving the faintest impression of hair piled up, high necked blouse and long skirt…and a smile ☺️
No animosity, no fear, just the gentlest acknowledgment of the presence of both of us.
My daughter and women friends often saw/sensed her too.

The Dollies will be so excited on Monday, bless them.
Wishing you contentment in your new nest 💖☺️💖

BatshitCrazyWoman · 07/05/2022 15:37

Oh hooray Polly! I hope you have years of happiness in your new home. I had a little cry reading your update - my divorce was long and painful but 7 years (!!!) after it began, I was in my new home and that feeling was incredible!

Fraaahnces · 07/05/2022 16:02

Acing it Polly!!! So relieved you’re IN!!! Hope you and the Dollies (and kitty) love your new place!!!

AnneKipankitoo · 07/05/2022 16:15

Wonderful news !
Glad your friends rallied round ( sent the muscles ) !
Enjoy!

TheThreadisMildlyAmusing · 07/05/2022 16:18

So glad you are in Polly. A pox on those removal men, hope you manage to post a review. No matter, you have fantastic friends and good friends are worth their weight in gold.

If Gellar were to meet with an unfortunate accident before signing the papers would everything of his automatically come to you? Just asking for a friend 😉

LookItsMeAgain · 07/05/2022 19:09

I'd leave a small box or two of bits and pieces (not necessarily their clothes) but a lamp and ornaments that your girls would have in their room, for them to unpack and set up for themselves for when you get them back on Monday. It'll get them involved in the moving process and help them to settle in, I think.
What do you think @StuckInPollyannaMode

Great idea! Congratulations on finally moving into your new home 🏡

AcrossthePond55 · 07/05/2022 20:19

Oh I'm so happy for you! Ensconced in your lovely home with no memories of Geller within your four walls! Peace and calm, even with the remaining settling in and arranging.

claireb7rg · 08/05/2022 20:26

Oh congratulations on the house front (and the presentation)!

I remember the first night I spent in my own house after splitting with my ex. It was gloriously messy and full of boxes but it was all mine!!! I was quite sad when I sold that house but on the other hand I had by then moved in with current partner so all was well.

Enjoy the first few weeks of unpacking and choosing things for you rather than twuntish ex 😊

ByeByeMissAmericanPie · 11/05/2022 08:26

WooHoo @StuckInPollyannaMode 💐🥂🍸🥳🥰

You’ve made it! Congratulations and Welcome to Your New Home

Wish we could all come and celebrate with you.

I agree with the others to let the dollies do a bit of unpacking in their own rooms. Maybe ask their opinions on hanging pictures, or where something else should go.

BigRedDuck · 12/05/2022 22:54

Congratulations @StuckInPollyannaMode 🎉🎉🎉💐💐💐
