Rude "famous people"

We have a famous designer at my kid's school, born to a very wealthy family. Her kids are nice
She can be very unfriendly but inconsistently so - will often blank people one day and be friendly the next. Acts quite haughtily with the teachers. At times very abrupt.
She doesn't have to be friends with us civilians - that I fully understand. But what's with the rude behaviour? What's going on there? The school mums are a pretty innocuous bunch and I'd like to think we are friendly and welcoming.

Lenny Henry is horrid ( like not once but multiple times) .Boris, Obama and Biden nice. Antony Hopkins amazing. According to DH.

forgotmyusernamagain · 09/10/2021 23:39

Could say the same for David Beckham

He came to visit injured soldiers at the QE in Birmingham many years ago , was really lovely to all

Oh Prince Charles visited once too , I rushed round a corner almost smacked straight into him , I apologised and he laughed out loud
Seemed nice enough

Garriet · 09/10/2021 23:39

The worst I’ve met is no surprise to anyone, Russell Crowe. Obnoxious arse with an ego the size of Australia.

notHarris · 09/10/2021 23:39

@SkiingIsHeaven

Cherie Blair.

In fact I shouted rude at her. Horrible rude woman.

She visited the special school (PMLD class) I was working in and was absolutely lovely. Most visitors stand well back and smile nervously from the door 🙄 but she got down on the floor and spoke to each child individually. One slapped her in the face and another left a chocolate hand print on her expensive jacket but she was unphased!
CinemaPantomime · 09/10/2021 23:40

Met David and Carrie Grant and they were absolutely lovely. So genuine, chatty and kind. Went out of their way to engage with the children present and took their time very patiently with the shy overwhelmed ones - David goofing about and Carrie being gentle and kind.
Mr Tumble was there too - he was ok, nothing wrong as such as he went through the motions but not a patch on David and Carrie.

New job on Reception - man comes in (who turned out to be a famous author, but I didn’t know who he was at the time). He just said ‘I’m expected’. When I said ‘what name is it please?’ He replied ‘don’t get funny with me, dear’. The person he had come to see appeared at that moment and took him off, so I had to ask a colleague who the hell that was.
I'd love to know who this was. If it isnt Roald Dahl, (RIP), the only other I can think of is Michael Rosen, maybe David Walliams. I can imagine this to be fair.
Haudyourwheesht · 09/10/2021 23:42

@COPPER3

Stella McCartney?
That was my assumption.
notHarris · 09/10/2021 23:42

My uncle attended a school down the road from Enid Blyton's house. He told us that when she was writing she would invite a group of children to tea, so she could get inspiration.
They all hated going because she was cold and unfriendly apparently.

Lenny Henry YES. Thinks he's a real thesp. Makes me interested to know what Dawn French is like as I'm a real fan and they were still together when I worked on an event Lenny Henry was booked for. He was just so, so, so arrogant and dismissive.
Haudyourwheesht · 09/10/2021 23:47

@Mrsweasleysclock

Jeremy Clarkson Super grumpy
Shocker.
Lightisnotwhite · 09/10/2021 23:49

youvegottenminuteslynn I wondered that too. DH has worked with him a few times whilst he was married and after,. DH is easy going too.
Must have been embarrassing for Dawn being in the same business and knowing your other half is a knob. Like being rude to waiters..

I’ve heard Dawn French is horrible as well! Although should stress I’ve not met her myself!
notHarris · 09/10/2021 23:55

A good few years ago I was on a train with Eric Cantona, the train was packed and he ended up standing the whole way (a couple of hours) getting plagued for his autograph and pictures. He was a complete gent throughout so I was pleasantly surprised.

Izitso · 09/10/2021 23:59

Scott Walker (Engel) so enigmatic, shy and yet friendly. Wanted not to be recognised but we got chatting by chance waiting in a queue. Gorgeous man. R.I.P.
Judy Finnegan - amazing lady - a curious blend of reserved yet confident. Oh and very pretty! Much missed on TV in my opinion...

Izitso · 10/10/2021 00:05

Oops! Sorry OP I got lost in revelry - the only a**e has been the designer already alluded to (if I'm correct in my assumption!)

bert3400 · 10/10/2021 00:08

I met Bono once, randomly in the street, was really lovely and very chatty. I was a huge U2 fan at the time so was a quivering wreck.

Gemma2019 · 10/10/2021 00:09

Have met Laura Whitmore through work a few times and she is truly horrendous. Arrogant, smug and condescending. The worst celebrity I have ever met.

I met Alison Hammond at Butlins just before lockdown and she was lovely, so I'm surprised at the negative comments. Also met Rylan and Romesh Ranganathan at Butlins and they were delightful too.

My DD1 used to go to school with one of Rod Stewart's kids and he and Penny Lancaster were very nice.

SophieKaczynsky · 10/10/2021 00:11

I've met Lenny Henry and Dawn French once, when they were still together. All I can say is, considering they are 'comedians' they were both very glum and miserable

sunflower1988 · 10/10/2021 00:11

Friend of a friend worked on sherlock, apparently benedict cumberbatch was lovely but Martin freeman was grumpy and rude.

Rachie1973 · 10/10/2021 00:11

Chris Packham. Sat at a bar (we lived in same village) at the actual bar eating. People queuing next to him to order drinks and food were rudely told he wouldn’t be signing autographs! No one had asked!

Eleanor Tomlinson from Poldark is lovely though. We met her at her uncles funeral (my DH best mate) and he’d never mentioned they were related!

TatianaBis · 10/10/2021 00:15

@Quire

Oh, and *@DrSbaitso* is absolutely right about Margaret Atwood, whom I met several times when I knew her daughter. It was kind of exhausting having someone do full-on grande dame over the breakfast table.
I’m finding the MA comments Interesting. What did she do?
olidora63 · 10/10/2021 00:17

@YouokHun

We had a celeb mother at one of my DC’s school, Davina McCall. I am mentioning her because it’s all positive. She was a bit insecure and I think wanted very much to be liked but she was lovely, and super kind and open. What wasn’t so lovely was that having a celeb in the school fucked up the dynamic and it was the behaviour of some other parents around her that was cringing to observe; falling over themselves to snuggle up to her. I think she found it quite embarrassing. It wasn’t great for one of her DC who was a nice kid but had too much social power, again because all the sharp elbowed parents were shoving their DC in her direction.

I was pretty happy when Davina left but not because of her but because it settled down a lot after she went and the flash set went back to being the everyday wankers they normally were instead of the star-struck super-wankers they became. Perhaps the parent you mention @acornfed is somewhat wary of people changing their behaviour around her?

I see Davina regularly out walking the dog …she is absolutely lovely and definitely avoids wankers 😂
BoxOfDreams · 10/10/2021 00:19

A late friend of mine, an actor, was in an episode of Murder Most Horrid. He said Kenny Henry hung around all the time and was rude and egotistical but Dawn French was lovely.

My sister, many many years ago, used to arrange book signings for one of the major book stores. Joan Collins was lovely and was the only celeb she dealt with who ever sent her a personal thank you note. Apparently Noel Edmonds was a knob.

TatianaBis · 10/10/2021 00:22

You can kind of tell Noel is a knob.

HundredMilesAnHour · 10/10/2021 00:24

I did a shift of voluntary work with Jilly Goolden. She was pleasant and obviously just wanted to be treated like a normal person. She was a regular volunteer at this particular charity.
