Rude "famous people"

We have a famous designer at my kid's school, born to a very wealthy family. Her kids are nice
She can be very unfriendly but inconsistently so - will often blank people one day and be friendly the next. Acts quite haughtily with the teachers. At times very abrupt.
She doesn't have to be friends with us civilians - that I fully understand. But what's with the rude behaviour? What's going on there? The school mums are a pretty innocuous bunch and I'd like to think we are friendly and welcoming.

Robbie Williams was pushed into showbiz by his mum when he was 15 - it's hardly surprising he's grown into an arrogant arse. The throwing Christmas wrapping paper at JW kids is the kind of cruel thing a lot of nasty children do, I don't think it's limited to him.

remodelideas · 10/10/2021 20:58

Forgot to post my own:

Lovely:
Joanna Lumley - adorable and self effacing
David & Sam Cameron - not a fan of his politics but they are both calm, charming and very kind
Trevor McDonald - just a really lovely Manx very intelligent and his family seem to adore him
Tom Hardy - incredibly beautiful and gives people time
Maggie Smith - wickedly funny and very "with it"
Duncan James - breathtakingly handsome and really sweet
Holly Willoughby - really kind and unassuming (her husband however comes across as an arsehole, rude and talks down to her in public)
Sally Phillips - really sweet
Dec Donnelly - really sweet
Bill Nighy- lovely

The not so lovely:
Carole Malone (journalist) - vile. Utterly vile
Will Young - "don't you know who I am"
Ant (of and Dec fame) - grumpy and stand offish
Heston Blumenthal - rude and arrogant

SalsaLove · 10/10/2021 20:58

So many English celebrities.

steponthetightrope · 10/10/2021 20:59

And Zoe Ball's boyfriend is knobhead too.

Elle McPherson, arsehole, as is her sister Elizabeth. Dreadful people.

Ooh I meant Andy and the Odd Socks! But maybe you were thinking of another Andy on kids TV and I got the wrong idea?[/quote]
No. Just couldn't work out the initials!! 🤣 🤣 🤣

AdoptedBumpkin · 10/10/2021 21:02

Have to admit, if I saw George Osborne skating, I'd be tempted to knock him over. (I wouldn't really, I'd just regret not doing so for decades afterwards). Grin

Gilmoregale · 10/10/2021 21:03

@Gonnagetgoing I heard something similar from a former colleague who mixed in several quasi-celebrity circles due to having a very well known spouse in a particularly specialised field. Colleague was known for telling it like it is.

Halfpace · 10/10/2021 21:03

I agree that it’s deeply unreasonable to expect any celebrity to be permanently polite, warm and smiling. Alan Rickman was remarkably rude to me at a charity event (I was there in a professional capacity), but he’d just done some endless ‘meet and greet’ thing where fans donated to the charity to have a minute with him, and he’d probably got to the end of his endurance. I mean, it was unpleasant at the time — I was only in my early 20s and felt very dismissed — but I don’t imagine one interaction somehow sums up his character.

ChinstrapBobblehat · 10/10/2021 21:04

A while ago I listened to a podcast with the comic actress Diane Morgan (who sounds really lovely, incidentally). She said that when she was young she absolutely idolised Victoria Wood, and later managed to blag an invitation onto the set of one of her shows, where a friend was working at the time.

Diane said she was introduced to Victoria during a break and was completely starstruck, gushing about what a massive influence and inspiration she was, and Victoria Wood just stared coldly at her and said nothing at all before walking off, leaving her feeling quite humiliated and awful.

No matter what the extenuating circumstances, there’s no real excuse for that kind of twatty behaviour, and I’ve never thought of Victoria Wood in the same way since. Which makes me feel a bit sad, actually.

@Explosivefarts

Rylan Clarke so stuck up his own ass it’s unbelievable
Shock No!

What happened?

MsTSwift · 10/10/2021 21:08

A friend works in film and he said Judi Dench was really lovely. As was Colin firth and Helena Bonham Carter

Who is her boyfriend ?
Wanttohideaway · 10/10/2021 21:12

Martin Platt from Coronation Street ( Sean Wilson) absolutely lovely

I’ve been to Judi Denchs house (well, one of them, she probably has a few), she didn’t like my mismatched socks so she gave me a new pair to wear Grin
Trudij123 · 10/10/2021 21:18

I know Clare Balding - she’s lovely. Massively hard working and incredibly kind. ( I’ve not met Alice, but she appears to me to be very similar)

Frankie Detorri isn’t often how he comes over on screen…

Shimmylikejoanholloway · 10/10/2021 21:19

DH is famous sort of and can either be all sunshine and roses or a grumpy twat when people stop him for autographs and pictures - much like any other human! I don't think people have boundaries when approaching well known people, they feel entitled to their time.

However, I have met some cracking twats on nights out with DH and at work functions and some famous people do seem to be rude just because they can, especially to 'the help' (Obnoxious phrase).

James Cordon, Martin Freeman were just so rude to the point it was almost comical. The one who played Simon in Inbetweeners was also a bit of a bellend.

Tom Hiddleston, David Caves, Shaun Evans, Peter Andre and Una Healy were all absolutely lovely, interested, chatty, really respectful and came across as very grateful for all their fans.

Halfpace · 10/10/2021 21:23

@Simonjt, I’m trying to imagine the circumstances in which your socks could be so disturbing to someone that they replace them…?

youvegottenminuteslynn · 10/10/2021 21:23

Rylan did a Christmas light switch on for a client of mine a few years ago and he was SO fun. Surprised to hear someone had a bad experience with him as never heard a bad word, but maybe it's changed over time? He was really lovely. As were Jedward!

FredaFox · 10/10/2021 21:27

I used to work in Ibiza and regularly saw Zoe ball and fat boy slim at the airport, they always stopped for a chat.
Used to see several big djs at the airport.Carl cox always said hi. Paul oakenfold is very shy.
Used to see judge jukes regularly in the bank, he was always off his head.
Michelle Collins came through once and her daughter was really playing her up, seemed very spoiled
Anthony cotton is rude and nasty. See him knocking around Manchester a lot. Diva.
A friend has worked with James Cordon a lot and hasn't got a good word to say about him. Isn't interested in the little people only the influential ones.
Met gok wan once, rude, he was only interested in the boys in my group, wouldn't even look at the girls.
Ended up on an impromptu night out with actor Daniel Mays, really sound guy
See Liam fray from the courteeners out and about a lot, always nice to people
I always think Marcus rashford seems naturally shy and the media side is really out of his comfort zone

TReXX · 10/10/2021 21:30

Martin Lewis the money saving expert guy is a friend of friend. I've been on group nights out with him (many years ago before he was famous) and he was much like his TV persona. I met his wife Lara Lewington at a party (she's also a presenter) and she was so, so lovely.

youvegottenminuteslynn · 10/10/2021 21:32

There's a moment of great schaudenfreude to be had when you watch a clip of James Corden doing food challenges on his own show and all he has to do to avoid tasting something awful is name two members of his own camera crew. On his own talk show. The look on his face - oh fuck I am rumbled, say his eyes Grin By any account I have ever heard in the industry he is really not a nice person. So enjoy 7.00 into this clip:

FairNotFair · 10/10/2021 21:33

Worked on a production with Lucy Worsley a few years ago. She was lovely - very focused, genuinely interested, and unfailingly good-humoured despite having to do multiple takes due to relentless outside noise.

Starstar7 · 10/10/2021 21:34

I chatted to David Thewlis about his Buggaboo pram whilst he was waiting by the door in a Marks and Spencer..I had no idea who he was until Anna Friel turned up. He was lovely.

CoastalWave · 10/10/2021 21:34

@Suzi888

Holly Willoughby. No personal experience, a friends son worked in the studio and said it’s all show for the cameras. I was surprised! as seems genuine.
My Mum's friends son dated her for ages.

She absolutely IS a cow apparently. I was shocked too! Real nasty piece of work by all accounts (mum's friend is so lovely I trust her opinion) She was delighted when they split up!

SunShinesBrightly · 10/10/2021 21:35

@Libraryghost

I went to school with Robbie Williams. He was a right prick then and he is an even bigger prick now.
I’ve never had the misfortune to meet him thankfully but he’s horrendous. I wonder if all the clips of him inviting random young girls up on stage and full on snogging them are still on you tube? I’ll have to look.
