Rude "famous people"

We have a famous designer at my kid's school, born to a very wealthy family. Her kids are nice
She can be very unfriendly but inconsistently so - will often blank people one day and be friendly the next. Acts quite haughtily with the teachers. At times very abrupt.
She doesn't have to be friends with us civilians - that I fully understand. But what's with the rude behaviour? What's going on there? The school mums are a pretty innocuous bunch and I'd like to think we are friendly and welcoming.

@AdoptedBumpkin

Has anyone met any of the Last Leg presenters? I really hope they are as nice as they seem on the show.
I’ve met Adam Hills who was lovely.
dottypencilcase · 10/10/2021 20:45

I'm gutted to read about Dawn French and Peter McKay.

Dying to know who the older actress who refused the Asian taxi driver was. I'd be gutted if it was Judi Dench.

Andy of AATOS was one of THE nicest family / kid Celebs we've ever done a campaign with. Above and beyond lovely. I appreciate that was at a paid gig and not out and about but I've only ever heard super good things about him personally and experienced him being lovely first hand. Would do your head in to live with as an adult I imagine as he's a million miles an hour, but great with the kids!
What is AATOS?

Puffalicious · 10/10/2021 20:46

Forgot about this one- my brother bumped into Liam Gallagher in a pub pre-gig in Edinburgh. He was on his own and sat with brother and his mates for a few drinks. He was really lovely, apparently, and a real laugh.

I can't remember the band but he said he regularly goes to gigs on his own to see new bands. Top all round bloke.

ancientgran · 10/10/2021 20:46

Can I defend Lenny Henry? I was queuing behind him in a supermarket, some of his shopping fell off the checkout and I helped him pick some stuff up and he was polite, had a joke and was lovely to the young woman serving him. My kids were so upset that they had refused to come and help with the shopping.

Dennis Waterman was lovely to my kids and signed a card for my mother who was terminally ill. She was thrilled.

Judy Spiers was mentioned earlier and I agree she was lovely when I met her, it was a charity thing and she chatted like an old friend.

Andrew Castle gave me an award I'd won, he was very nice to everyone at the event.

Rowan Williams is lovely, very sad that photo of me meeting him went missing, it was a works do so official photos. Not sure what happened to mine.

Martine McCutcheon very unpleasant, two kids with me and she would only autograph one programme, we were introduced by another member of the cast and she barely acknowledged us. She had huge body guards with her who terrified the kids.

David Wilkie, Olympic swimmer gold medalist back in the day, was absolutely lovely. Told me my son reminded him of himself at the same age, it was at a swimming event.

So mainly nice famous people for me.

Wanttohideaway · 10/10/2021 20:47

@ButYouGottaHaveASkillJeff me too, he seems to be on everything at the moment 🤣

Lordamighty · 10/10/2021 20:48

The jockey was Liam Treadwell . He’d just won the Grand National on 100/1 Mon Mome , he seemed such a lovely chap and Claire Balding was so rude to him. He tragically passed away last year after battling mental health problems.
That’s so sad, Clare Balding was so incredibly rude to him on live TV after he won the Grand National. I’ve disliked her ever since.

ancientgran · 10/10/2021 20:48

Forgot Steve Batchall, best show I've ever taken children to. At the end of the show he said he see everyone in the foyer in a few minutes. Lots of children queuing up for photos and autographs and he was really charming.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 10/10/2021 20:48

Previous Post about Marcus Rashford having Good PR machine and not being very nice.

To me he comes across as very shy and reserved, he really doesn't like being put in front of the camera for interviews and face to face conversation. He would probably probably prefer to do the good work he does behind the keyboard. But obviously big campaigns don't work like that. I can imagine he would also be good with young kids playing football etc but having to make eye contact and small talk with wide eyed adults when he is obviously very shy is probably his worst nightmare.

DrSbaitso · 10/10/2021 20:49

Miriam Margolyes - rude

Yes.

remodelideas · 10/10/2021 20:50

So pleased to hear Tom Burke is nice. I actually love him.

Hubblebubble100 · 10/10/2021 20:50

I remember the first interview I read with a then little known backing singer called Robbie Williams in a new band called “Take That” in Smash Hits where he recalled throwing Christmas wrapping paper at the Jehovah Witness kids to taunt them.

He sounded like a right gem

Hubblebubble100 · 10/10/2021 20:51

So can believe he was a jerk at school as pp has stated.

GoGadgetGo · 10/10/2021 20:51

Kate Robbins (Emily Atack's mum who is/was a comedian) was lovely when I saw her years ago. Very down to earth.
I met Christopher Lee (Dracula in old BW films). Bit miserable, but maybe he had a long/hard day or perhaps he was just a moody so and so.

AdoptedBumpkin · 10/10/2021 20:51

@Garriet Good to hear - he always comes across as a genuine caring man.

Flowerpower23 · 10/10/2021 20:52

Oh this makes me so happy! My DD is obsessed with him, I follow him on Instagram and he does seem genuinely lovely

youvegottenminuteslynn · 10/10/2021 20:53

@Elderflower14

Ooh I meant Andy and the Odd Socks! But maybe you were thinking of another Andy on kids TV and I got the wrong idea?

KilledByWitches · 10/10/2021 20:54

@Libraryghost

I went to school with Robbie Williams. He was a right prick then and he is an even bigger prick now.
He used to knock around in the same clubs as DH (I was more a rock pub girl) and was always giving it the big I am. Between that and swanning around the potteries centre like he was Gods gift. Odious little twerp.
plk323 · 10/10/2021 20:54

My kids asked George Osborne for a selfie together when they were ice skating at Somerset. He was very gracious and asked his daughter to come over and take the photo for them.

He went up in my estimation as he was a truly dreadful skater and put himself through the ritual public humiliation to give his daughter a nice outing.

Wauden · 10/10/2021 20:54

Mart*n Keown is a bully. He came up very close to me in an aggressive manner, threw his weight around, 4was rude to everyone. Gave off a very aggressive vibe.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 10/10/2021 20:55

@EmmalineC

So many of these anecdotes are irrelevant - unless you have spent a significant length of time in someone's company, how on earth can you know whether someone is a rude/entitled/grumpy person? Or utterly sweet and kind because they once smiled at your child?

Declan Donnelly bought me a glass of wine once but that wasn't because he was nice, it was because he thought I was someone he knew. Although he probably is nice...

That's true but it's still a fun thread. It also depends what situation they are there for. E.g mine and many pp have said at. Charity event so if they can't be nice on occasions like this there's no hope. On the other hand if you meet them at the park or restaurant when they are with family - they may feel it's a bit intrusive.
plk323 · 10/10/2021 20:56

Martin Kemp also lives near us and is very friendly and charming to anyone that talks to him.

Explosivefarts · 10/10/2021 20:57

Rylan Clarke so stuck up his own ass it’s unbelievable

Antonia2021 · 10/10/2021 20:57

@KilledByWitches just so unattractive

I always think he looks like he’s sniffed loads of poppers

Walkingthedog46 · 10/10/2021 20:57

MyothercarusaCozyCoup. No, not Martin Ames
