Rude "famous people"

We have a famous designer at my kid's school, born to a very wealthy family. Her kids are nice
She can be very unfriendly but inconsistently so - will often blank people one day and be friendly the next. Acts quite haughtily with the teachers. At times very abrupt.
She doesn't have to be friends with us civilians - that I fully understand. But what's with the rude behaviour? What's going on there? The school mums are a pretty innocuous bunch and I'd like to think we are friendly and welcoming.

DH met Mick Jagger through work and was very impressed with how pleasant he was to all the staff, however junior

SunShinesBrightly · 10/10/2021 21:41

Yes, didn’t have to search far... First one I found - Kissing and signing a girl’s bare bum on stage. (Ullevigatan, Västra Götaland County).
Grim.

Celebs who were lovely - David Beckham (absolutely gorgeous person!) Prince Charles (unbelievably charming and smelt lovely!) David Jason (super super friendly)

Knobheads - Seal (rude, obnoxious) , Philip Schofield (full of himself) Amanda Holden (rude rude rude, used to deal with her weekly, utter pain in the arse)

Love Mick Jagger!

Has anyone met Ashley Banjo and Perri? They seem so lovely!

Gosh, it’s fairly unanimous that James Corden, Lenny Henry and Pip Schofe are nasty pieces of work! Cilla Black - have never heard of anyone having a positive interaction with her. Poor BA staff back in the day. I used to meet a few celebs in a previous career/life (Stagedoor) Can’t think of anyone that was particularly awful. One who was stand out lovely, with beautiful old school manners was the late Simon McKorkindale.
My friend worked for BA for 24 years and said the staff dreaded her flying with them. They used to draw straws to see who got to be her victim I mean person to look after her....

Ashley Banjo is Drop. Dead. Gorgeous. Unbelievably so. Smells amazing. Charming and not sleazy which is a very rare combination!

If perri is awful I might cry…

A while ago I listened to a podcast with the comic actress Diane Morgan (who sounds really lovely, incidentally). She said that when she was young she absolutely idolised Victoria Wood, and later managed to blag an invitation onto the set of one of her shows, where a friend was working at the time.

Diane said she was introduced to Victoria during a break and was completely starstruck, gushing about what a massive influence and inspiration she was, and Victoria Wood just stared coldly at her and said nothing at all before walking off, leaving her feeling quite humiliated and awful.

No matter what the extenuating circumstances, there’s no real excuse for that kind of twatty behaviour, and I’ve never thought of Victoria Wood in the same way since. Which makes me feel a bit sad, actually.

In fairness, I think it was well known that Victoria Wood was cripplingly shy and felt massively uncomfortable with people constantly approaching her. Still disappointing that she was actively rude though.

I'm so glad noones said anything bad about Micky Flanagan or Greg Davies

Cilla Black was the gold standard for rude celebs. Don't know what she was like at her kid's school though (if she went there herself).
Back in the 90's I was collecting for a charity on the high street in Gerrards Cross with a sweet, polite nine year old among our group. Cilla Black walks by, nine year old excited and shakes tin, smiles and asks Cilla if she would like to donate. Cilla replied "Go and ask that man over there" pointing to a pensioner passing by and walks on without troubling her handbag for loose change. Rude woman who could never sing in my opinion.

A friend met Michael McIntyre who turned out to be right up his own arse. She was gutted as she loves his shows and he comes across as so nice but he was so rude and stuck up. She said he was a celebrity she wished she never met in real life.
We went to one of his (v small) pre-tour shows once. I thought the point of them was to test gags for audience response, pre arena tours. Other comedians we’d seen were lovely, humble and self deprecating MM was an utter diva, he threw hissy fits when the audience didn’t respond as he’d hoped, it was quite embarrassing 🙈

Victoria Coren Mitchell

We were at the same wedding of a mutual friend, and another mutual friend introduced us and said we were both pregnant and due around the same time
She just said ‘oh’ and walked off

She also fiddled with her phone the whole way through the speeches..!

I always got the feeling she was a bitch, even though I haven’t met her. Guess I’m a good judge of character.

Not really "famous" as such but my sister took her lovely MIL to see the Yorkshire farm for her 90th birthday.
She said you can't go in but can stand at the gate and look into the farm. So they were doing that and Amanda (?) and two of the youngest children came to the gate for a chat.
They were utterly lovely, particularly the kids who seemed like they could have chatted all day.
It made her birthday and she couldn't stop talking about it 😍

Rev Kate Bottley from Gogglebox is lovely, she's been in our shop a few times. Always says hi, was also a colleagues RE teacher way back when.

I renewed Keith Chegwin's car insurance for him, started doing the data protection questions and thought it was a wind up - it wasn't. He was giggly and lovely on the phone. Had a TON of speeding points though. No idea how he escaped bans for totting up.

Phil Oakey - he's alright. Just a normal guy really.

Mark Feeley from Westlife, really lovely. Did a signing in store, I asked him if he had to develop an autograph signiture when he got famous instead of using a real life forgeable one and we had a fun chat. Gave me a hug when he left.

Michael Ball & Alfie Boe - lovely, both like winding each other up. Another friend says Alfie sometimes gets sick of Michael's messing about and has a strop.

Russell Watson - wonderful man. Big joker. Big smiles just sitting and chatting.

I have a friend that works in TV and I love hearing inside gossip and who's a twat. He confirms Graham Norton is a kind man, Laurence Lewellyn Bowen is gregarious but a good man (sent him the most AMAZING Christmas card which is so out there but great fun), I know certain celebs that are coke fiends with squeaky clean reputations. Mel and Sue - Mel is great, Sue can be a bit up and down.

Erm my mum used to live near Roger Moore, apparently he was very polite and always said good morning.

Gilly12345 · 10/10/2021 22:00

At book launches I have met Ruth Jones, Jodi Picoult, Richard and Judy, Phillipa Gregory and Coleen Nolan.

All were lovely and were happy to sign books and have photos taken.

Mammyloveswine · 10/10/2021 22:01

Sir Bobby Robson was so lovely!! Honestly the nicest man I've ever had the pleasure of meeting!

I met Tom Fletcher pregnant with number 2, ds was only 1... it was a meet and greet thing I'd stumbled across accidentally in Waterstones and I tried to engage him in conversation about having 2 under 2... he was so standoffish and not at all how I imagined he'd be. Was so disappointed.

Ricky whittle was so much fun! Spent ages talking to me and my mate, showing us how to pose! This was when he did strictly!

Prince Charles was lovely!!

I saw Jimmy carr once and recognised the face but didn't realise it was him.. I must have then done a recognition face and he chuckled.

Explosivefarts · 10/10/2021 22:03

@TheSpottedZebra served him in a restaurant honestly he was so rude
. Looked down his nose at everyone. Didn’t use please or thank you. So condescending.

Gilly12345 · 10/10/2021 22:03

I have heard that Kate Humble is antisocial and aloof to people she meets. Apparently she is not too good with the public.

TatianaBis · 10/10/2021 22:04

My sister was in Vicky Coren’s year at school. She was quite ostracised by the mean girls in her year, and some of the teachers really disliked her for being bumptious and up her own arse.

But come across well on TV. I’ve no idea what she like now.

notHarris · 10/10/2021 22:05

Has anyone met Anton Du Beke or any other Strictly dancers?
Would love to know what they're like.
I absolutely love Anton and will be gutted if he's horrible.

PunishmentSnart · 10/10/2021 22:06

Cherie Blair was lovely when I met her, really warm and friendly.

A lot of footballers being mentioned and Jamie Carragher seems to get a lot of bad press but in his local area he really does great things. He’s always been kind when people I know have met him.

No amount of being 'nice' to some people makes up for spitting in anyone's face though, let alone a young girl. Vile!

Yes I know Anton via my work. He's funny, charming, cheeky and very polite. I find him very gentlemanly and exactly how he is on TV.

I know Clare Balding - she’s lovely. Massively hard working and incredibly kind. ( I’ve not met Alice, but she appears to me to be very similar)

Frankie Detorri isn’t often how he comes over on screen…

I love Claire Balding.
