WW, they were like this

Hey, will you look at my flooding thread please if you get a minute? Ta.

About £20k, 3 years ago. Errm, but most of that was spent on the dress (c. £2k in all); marquee; booze - LOTS was left over, we were still drinking it 12 months later , food (crap), a disco & band (both brilliant) and portaloos (essential) - we live on a farm! Oh, and £200 on a really crap photographer.

We saved on flowers - providing our own ivy to decorate everything; cake - I made it and paid for a v plain decoration; used my dad's car and printed our own invitations. The bridesmaids' dresses were bought in the Monsoon January sale. Oh, and my sister did my make-up.

Was it worth it? Probably not, but we got married on 14th Feb which everyone sees as a licence to print money, and the only thing we could have saved on was the dress (I used a local designer, it looked great, but honestly...), and, errr, the booze. Any venue available was no smoking and therefore a non-starter. And I didn't enjoy a second of it until after the speeches when the party finally kicked off. And that was brilliant!!!!

We were still paying for it 18 months later.

SenoraPostrophe · 08/09/2007 22:16

mine was about 2000 euros, and the biggest expense was the band. and they were worth paying for too! my dad did the photos, I did my bouquet (no other flowers), dress was from ebay, and the meal was extremely good value at a local restaurant.

WendyWeber · 08/09/2007 22:18

And it was a brilliant day all round, SP

(Don't forget your limo...)

Wilkie · 08/09/2007 22:19

£8k. Wouldn't spend it again even though I loved every second of it.

SenoraPostrophe · 08/09/2007 22:21

I think the cheap spanish booze helped!

WaynettaVonSlob · 08/09/2007 22:21

Can't remember, and don't care. weren't extortionate, but were luckily able to afford what we wanted. Loved the day.

wannaBe · 09/09/2007 21:40

our wedding cost about 5k. it was fab.

My cousin's wedding cost £23k, his "d"w left him 11 weeks later. money well spent? me thinks not.

mixedmama · 13/09/2007 14:15

Ours was about £35k but my mum and dad paid for most of it. It was brilliant and two years later we still reminice (sp) about it as do all my relatives. However, I have been to many many wedidngs that cost far less that were equally as memorable for many reasons.

I agree that the most important thing is getting married and once we went on honeymoon i thought how nice it would have been to get married on the beach. Dont regret it tho and blame my dad for letting me be so extravagant.

MaureenMLove · 13/09/2007 14:18

Ours was about £3k if iirc. The dress was soooo expensive then, nearly £400! Still, I got my monies worth, I still put it on every year for our anniversary bbq!

preggersagain · 13/09/2007 14:28

we had two weddings/receptions!!! We had a traditional church white wedding in Wales with a sit down do afterwards at the Conrah, all told cost about 18k- we paid for that one.

Then because my family all come from the south coast and couldn't all make the day in wales (ill health and such like) we had a second do at Goodwood racecourse 3 months later- lovely summers day, watched the races, drank loads of bubbly then disapearred in a hot air balloon, landed and had a formal evening do at my old school (lancing college) followed by a blessing of our vows in the chapel at midnight! I have no idea how much that one cost- neither do i care, my mother is well aquainted with keeping up with the jones' and would do anything outdo various other families!!! i would imagine with everything all told she would have been very lucky to get away with less than 40k- i'm actually quite intrigued so i'll email and find out!!! I know she wrote a lot of it off on her tax forms as client entertainment

FoghornLeghorn · 13/09/2007 15:46

Mine cost £15K (last summer) - we were left £5K when my grandad passed away, my parents gave us £5K and we saved £5K ourselves.

FoghornLeghorn · 13/09/2007 16:03

A friend's wedding cost £37K, paid for by her Dad and she hated everything about it. Would much rather have spent £50 and got the day she wanted not what her Dad thought was right

mixedmama · 13/09/2007 16:07

That is always a risk when someone else is paying isnt it, luckily for me my dad didnt put too many demands on me, altho we did have a barney about my dress.

pooka · 13/09/2007 16:09

$60 for the license. 100$ for the ceremony. Splashed out on a fancy car for the drive-thru which cost abot $200 for a day hire.
Obviously flights adn hotel, but these were paid for by MIL as a present. In total about $1200. So less than £1000 and included a holiday.
Exactly what we wanted.

FoghornLeghorn · 13/09/2007 16:11

We also had a maruee with a 'free bar' i.e. my parents stock piled a ridiculous amount of alchohol. We too have only just got through it all I think, there was so much left over

FoghornLeghorn · 13/09/2007 16:13

No honeymoon included in ours either - I was nearly 6 months pregnant so decided against it

bigmouthstrikesagain · 13/09/2007 16:28

skimming through this thread has me! I think our wedding cost about £200 - registry office, dress from Greenwich market, meal after at local restaurant for all 8 of us (inc 1yo ds).

I was considering going to Chelsea Registry office but that wouldn't have made much difference to cost. DH thought that was to much like a 'do' though... we were going for understated

No regrets - but will have a party one day!

Theclosetpagan · 13/09/2007 16:29

Less than 2k as we had no honeymoon. Hired my dress for £60, used local village hall and caterer did 3 courses for about £7 a head. Mum in Law made the wedding cake and bridesmaids dresses came from BHS. A fun day was had by all.

Of course if we'd been rich then no doubt a 20k wedding would have been held but as it was we had a great day for a fraction of the cost.

Peachy · 13/09/2007 16:29

@ £14K, paid for mainly by an endowmint dh had due out, so we were quite happy tbh, and don't mind looking back although if we were to marry again dfor some reason don't suppose we'd repeat it either, a once off

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 13/09/2007 17:19

£1000 for a buffet for 70 guests
£200 for the cake
£200 for the photographer
£28 for my dress
£10 to get my hair done
£32 for my flowers
£40 for my shoes

Did my own make-up and didn't have a car - walked instead!

sleepfinder · 13/09/2007 18:41

£2000 honeymoon
£5,000 for champagne reception for 60 + canapes + night in suite at 5 star hotel (where reception held)
£150 for registry office ceremony
£800 for cake (Jane Asher!)
£1000 his suit
£500 my dress
£2000 our rings (4)
£100 for invitations and postage

I may have missed something but that looks like a grand total of £11,550

gawd and it was very low key

TotalChaos · 13/09/2007 18:52

Less than £2k on wedding. Probably about £1.5 k on honeymoon (including all food etc)

Hideehi · 13/09/2007 22:08

Mine was

£2800 for my dress
£1000 for dh and bridesmaids clothes, shoes etc
£2000 photo's/video's
£1000 for his ring (mine was £150)
£4500 Recep
£1000 Band
£1200 Fireworks

It's the little odds and sods thought that seemed to add up, flowers, cake, invitations, shoes
I think the total was £40k including engagement ring and honeymoon

macdoodle · 13/09/2007 23:03

£40K really my god
