Okay, another view: I had an HUGE wedding - abot 400 people and it cost about 20,000. My parents paid for most of it - they have good jobs and had it saved up, and dh's parents contributed too, willingly and with no arguments over money.

But: I come from a war torn country and weddings are the only occassions communities come together, and my beloved family flew in from around the world to be with me so we wanted to pay for their hotels and give them a proper party. We organised it in three months flat, so no bridezilla moments.

izzybiz · 06/09/2007 08:48

Im getting married in Jan and our wedding will be (hopefully!) about £5-6000.

My mum has bought my dress-£800
The church fees are £375, with flowers.
The car is £325
The reception is nearly £2000, in a hotel.
I have 2 adult bridesmaids to dress and 3 children,
5 suits to hire, we haven't bought the rings yet but are looking at about £600 for both of those.

We have cut corners, we are having the ceremony at 4pm, and then straight to an evening reception, no sit down meal etc, we aren't having a professional photographer either, my brother is going to film it and we will use guests photos for album.
Im looking into silk flowers or maybe doing my own?
Am so excited! I just want to wear my dress now!!

cookiesandcream · 06/09/2007 08:51

Mine cost about £7000 and was the best day of my life so well worth it

cookiesandcream · 06/09/2007 08:56

Just read an original message and my advice is get a photographer - ours was £500 but we spent a bit more on extras but I love my album. I made a second album using guests photos and there is really no comparrison. You need someone official to organise everyone. I really think that for such a special day it is sad not to have a great record of it. My album has bought me lots of pleasure and will do for years to come. We had a friend do the video and it's great but in hind sight I would of liked that done professionally too.

Ours was less than £2k.

We got married at Gretna Green and they did a package will included the service, photographer, a car and a nights stay in the hotels bridal suite.
That was £950 the all we paid for after that was for my dress which was nearly £300 from Monsoon, dh hired a suit for him and his brother and then we paid an extra £40 to have the Piper

If your adding rings on to it though, thats another £1.5k

expatinscotland · 06/09/2007 09:09

£75 for license and £200 for the rings.

I bought a nice dress from Episode that I wore until I lost my figure after having the girls . It cost about £100.

DH wore his kilt that he got for his 21st.

We had lunch in a nice restaurant afterwards - think that cost about £30.

That's it.

SleeplessInTheStaceym11House · 06/09/2007 09:10

mine was £1400 including the rception! it ws brill couldnt ask for more!!

SleeplessInTheStaceym11House · 06/09/2007 09:12

izzybiz, if you can, get a professional photographer, well worth the money imho, and if you play them fof each other you can get quite a cheap deal!!

Pidge · 06/09/2007 09:13

Well, it wasn't a wedding, but it was a marriage ....

Budget:
Bus fare to registry office: £2
Marriage licence: (am guessing here) £90

Optional extras:
food for hungover friend serving as witness: £2 (actually he bought it himself!)
ingredients for rather nice chocolate mousse cake made by myself: £10
lunch out with 4 friends acting as witnesses: £12 per head (I think they paid for themselves if I recall)

joopie · 06/09/2007 18:01

we paid:

bespoke dress:£500
shoes:£25
Flowers:£100
Church:£500
honeymoon:£500ish
husband suit:£200
Photography:£300

my parents insisted on doing the reception, mum and sister did the cake, whole family did all the catering, dad did a booze cruise, dad got a cheap deal on the marquee through a friend.
his family, they whinged and did nothing, ingrates.

Trix11 · 06/09/2007 20:57

20K - We saved up and paid for it all ourselves (was still paying for it a year or so after too)

Was worth it got the wedding we both wanted and dont regret it although could do a lot with that money now

Amethyst8 · 08/09/2007 20:05

Cost of registry office - cant remember how much - about £ 30.00 I think.

Wedding Rings £200.00

My outfit, haircut and highlights £170.00

Flowers £15.00

New tie for DH £10.00

Drinks before and after £50.00

TOTAL: Approx £500.00

No guests. Just me DH and two witnesses at the Registry Office and it was one of the happiest days of my life.

MIL paid for Honeymoon after the event even though she was gutted not to have been there.

Oh and we got married 8 weeks after we met. Still together 7 years and two kids later.

Rhubarb · 08/09/2007 20:07

Less than a grand. About £750 in all I think.

For that we got a church service, some flowers, a dress, a suit, rings, button-holes, meal for 70 guests, reception with bands, buffet at reception, some wine for everyone.
And a pair of Docs sprayed white.

munz · 08/09/2007 20:09

about £12K ish plus £500 rings and honey moon we paid, £2000 ish PIL paid.

and what a waste of money it all was.

PSCMUM · 08/09/2007 21:35

ours was £7k all in. we had the most brilliant wedding ever tho maybe I'm a teeeny bit biased?!)

Mungarra · 08/09/2007 21:42

About £450 (registry office, a new dress, lunch in restaurant for us and 5 guests, taxis).

However, DH managed to get £200 compensation from the taxi company, who failed to show up, so it really cost £250.

poppy34 · 08/09/2007 21:51

about 2k for flights/accommodation in vegas (which I count as honeymoon too)- then about £1k for rings, ceremony, dress , flowers etc

kitsandbits · 08/09/2007 21:52

kitsandbits · 08/09/2007 21:52

WendyWeber · 08/09/2007 21:55

WideWebWitch · 08/09/2007 21:57
