How soon did you have sex after birth?

iveforgottenmyname · 02/09/2019 22:11

I'm concerned about this as I know my partner has a high sex drive (I usually do too) but I am due to give birth in a few weeks. It has already been a few weeks since we last did it with being so big and hot and tired.

How soon after birth am I likely to be able to have sex? Or to even want to have sex! What's the average?

I waited till my 6 week check up as had stitches!

So it all depends on you and how the birth goes!
Your know when you feel ready

DannyWallace · 02/09/2019 22:13

7 weeks (I had a forceps delivery, but healed easily after it).

However, I feel COMPLETELY different down there and it's only now at 6 months postnatal that I feel like I'm beginning to enjoy it again.
Luckily I have a very patient DH as I'm often tired/not in the mood x

spottydog34 · 02/09/2019 22:14

7 months

DramaAlpaca · 02/09/2019 22:17

Just before the six week check. I'd had a forceps delivery & stitches. If you have a straightforward delivery you might be ready sooner.

Your partner needs to be patient & not put any pressure on you.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 02/09/2019 22:19

6 weeks with dc1, 4 weeks with dc2.

Both occasions it was fine- I’d had an episiotomy with my first dc, and stitches with both.

cricketmum84 · 02/09/2019 22:20

6 weeks as I had stitches. I (ahem) relieved him in other ways though I'm the meantime 😂

TerfTalk · 02/09/2019 22:22

Your partner’s sex drive is irrelevant within this context. Your health and well-being comes first here. Do not do anything until you’re ready.

Good luck with the birth.

Mammyofasuperbaby · 02/09/2019 22:22

3 weeks post section but had to stop after a while as it was uncomfortable however everything was back to normal by 6 weeks.
I have think being on my feet running back and forth to the nicu helped the fast recovery

3boysandabump · 02/09/2019 22:23

6 weeks ish with the first 2.

4 months after dc3

10 months after dc4

PumpkinP · 02/09/2019 22:23

2 weeks 😅 the first time

But it’s been 2 years and haven’t yet this time round but then I’m single now so that’s why

Haworthia · 02/09/2019 22:23

What @TerfTalk said.

TokenGinger · 02/09/2019 22:24

Three weeks for me. I had stitches for 2nd degree tears. I was healed and stopped bleeding by then.

DBML · 02/09/2019 22:25

About a week. But then it wasn’t traditional sex.

barneymcgroo · 02/09/2019 22:26

6 weeks after section. Breastfed lots, so honestly didn't start to feel completely normal and enjoyable til about 15 months.

passionfruit11 · 02/09/2019 22:27

6 months after my forceps delivery. 5 weeks after my c section Grin

MondeoFan · 02/09/2019 22:31

About 6 months I was too scared

SuzieQ10 · 02/09/2019 22:31

4 or 5 months.

Spidygirl · 02/09/2019 22:37

About a week-10 days after a section.

Seriously don't worry about it, you can't plan ahead, you have no idea how you'll feel both physically or mentally. Your dh will have to wait and not put pressure on you.

mrsed1987 · 02/09/2019 22:39

8 weeks, waited for 6 week check, that was late. Lol

criticaldarling · 02/09/2019 22:43

4 weeks, after stitches dissolved.

But I had PND and wanted to reclaim my body I think. It didn't hurt but it felt numb, pointless.

Takes a while to get back into it, especially with sleep deprivation.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 02/09/2019 22:44

About 3 months. Wasn't helped by me being at my parents' house and DH in his house with his older boys though (we were moving house). No overnights for ages!

thenightsky · 02/09/2019 22:46

6 months.

dottycat123 · 02/09/2019 23:05

7 days ds1, 10 days ds2. I had no stitches with either and stopped bleeding about day 5.

SunshineBubbles · 02/09/2019 23:09

4 months. I had an episiotomy which did heal quickly but I didn’t feel ready until then. My husband has a very high sex drive but put me under no pressure whatsoever.

BobTheFishermansWife · 02/09/2019 23:11

3 weeks, we had sex a day or 2 after I stopped bleeding, first time was uncomfortable as I had had stitches and I don't think they had all dissolved, although it looked like they had to me.

I have to say it's really odd, he has always had a low sex drive compared to me but since I had our son, he wants it more often.
