We are still here. Supporting, encouraging, helping. Never judging, never minimising our problems.

If you want to catch up, our last thread is HERE

And if you want to follow everything from the start, the very first thread from 9 years ago is RIGHT HERE

You can join in anytime. Everyone is welcome. Whether you are trying to cut down, abstain completely , or are simply acknowledging that you might have a problem... Post what you want.

Everyone ok? @venusandmars @Craftycorvid
@bakingcupcakes @dementedma @Fairenuff etc.

Craftycorvid · 28/03/2020 08:52

Morning, Mint! Morning all! I’m ok. How’s everyone coping with ‘lockdown’? I’ve spent the week catching up on projects that always take second place to work, doing a bit of actual work (some can be done on line) and having the occasional socially distant run in the park. DH and I managing to stay well and not at each other’s throats yet. Grin

Craftycorvid · 28/03/2020 09:05

Just caught up on the thread. Mint that’s a bummer about your driving test!

And should we send Barrie to tackle Lance the Virus?

bakingcupcakes · 28/03/2020 10:57

Hiya Mint and everyone else. I'm ok. Haven't read back on the thread, will have to have a proper look later.

I'm drinking more because of lockdown which I'm not pleased about. Now we don't have to drive for anything none of the evenings seem out of bounds. It's not extreme but I'm aware I'm doing it.

I'm classed as a key worker but we're seeing emergencies only so most of us are on indefinite leave meaning I'm home schooling DS for now. If those still working get sick then I'll be recalled. It's very strange because no one knows exactly what's going on.

I'm living in fear they ban children from shops because there's no online slots and I'm shopping for us and my parents who are in the very vulnerable category. Not that I want to take DS to the shops but there's no one I can leave him with either. It's no wonder I'm drinking really!

Fairenuff · 28/03/2020 11:38

Hi all. We're doing ok in our household. DD is home with us and her and DH both working from home. I'm in an office all on my own so still going in to work for now. Managing to get any supplies we need ok but don't need much really. This situation brings home how little we need and what's important to us.

I certainly don't need alcohol. Got none in and don't intend getting any. I don't drink much these days anyway as I kind of weaned myself off the habit over the years. Of course HALT- hungry, angry, lonely, tired (or hopeless, anxious, listless, terrified perhaps?) can be major triggers so I can see why some will find it hard to avoid.

I'm hoping to be around here more if anyone wants to chat.

baking can you reach out to your community? There are lots of them online. Facebook has local community help pages. I would be very happy to help out neighbours, I'm sure there will be someone willing to help you out too.

MintToBee · 28/03/2020 12:11

Phwe. Glad everyone is doi g ok.
Desperate times here. I cleaned the oven yesterday 😂
I've started Couch25K and today will be Week 1 Day 2. Its killing me!
I have a new date for my test. End of June. Fingers crossed I'm allowed.

Baking Try Nextdoor.com. Ours have set up lots of helpful groups.

All well here. no coughing, no fever (except cabin fever).

Interesting adjustments to make to life. I work for home and am used to having the place to myself so it is a bit of a struggle having dp here all day too. We are so lucky that we can create separate spaces otherwise his life might be in danger..

One of my dc lives in Europe. I know she feels alone and lonely and sometimes we speak on skype or WhatsApp and cry together. But mostly we laugh. And as a family we are joining with everyone else in finding other ways to connect, and to connect more often.

Tonight I had a virtual dinner party with my sister. We agree the menu beforehand, and the timings, but we realise that we could also do this with another friend who live on a remote Scottish island, and another friend in Singapore (although they might be having a dinner party at breakfast time).

But why were we not doing this before? The technology was there. We skyped or zoomed with colleagues but not with family or friends. Maybe we can realise how connected we can be..

And for us on this bravebabes thread we can easily join in with a night down the pub - they (in their small corner) might be downing pints of gin, me (in my small corner) is raising a glass of fizzy water Smile

Hey, Bave Babes pub night? With Seedlip? You’re on! Grin

MintToBee · 29/03/2020 06:09

My boss is doing pub quizzes with us in the work WhatsApp group every day at 5pm. Its been fun.

We live on top of a hill very ruraly so I'm used to not seeing anyone about but I am going a bit stir crazy now. I've ordered some stuff for the garden so will crack on with that.

Fairenuff · 29/03/2020 11:13

Oooh there was a virtual pub quiz last Thursday on facebook and youtube which I went to and I think he's going to do more. I'll put a link here if anyone else wants to come.

MintToBee · 29/03/2020 15:43

MintToBee · 29/03/2020 15:43

@Fairenuff Yes please!

venusandmars · 29/03/2020 20:58

I'll join the virtual pub quiz. Although historically the only thing I've been useful for us having neat handwriting!

Then you can be in charge of writing down the answers venus Grin

Here is the YouTube page if anyone wants to have a go and perhaps we could have a live Babes team this Thursday?

Ok, I’m generally good for English Lit’, general knowledge and 80s music. Just don’t ask me anything sport-related.

MintToBee · 30/03/2020 05:31

I'm in. I'll need tagged to remind me though!

Fairenuff · 30/03/2020 07:17

Ok Mint I'll try to remember to tag you.

MintToBee · 30/03/2020 08:37

Is it sad that I'm going to put it in my phone alarm? After all I may really busy like out at a party or out for a meal or.......oh 😝

venusandmars · 30/03/2020 11:29

Well what a shite time . We had to have our 14 year old dog Ruby PTS yesterday in the boot of the car. This bloody virus just makes shit times even worse. DH said I could have a pass for Gin if I needed it. I furiously cleaned the kitchen instead.

Brave babes are still here: sping / summer / autumn / winter There is always someone around
venusandmars · 31/03/2020 11:46

mint how awful and sad, and I'm glad that we got to meet Ruby at your wedding last year - the wedding with more dogs than guests Smile

Well done on the kitchen cleaning, that's a good way to deal with it.

I was just musing on how I would have coped with all of this during my drinking days... no quiet times to dispose of the empties, no sneaky visits to the shops... So glad (in many ways) that I@m not in that place now.

OP posts:
Craftycorvid · 31/03/2020 19:24

Mint. I’m so sorry about Ruby. Flowers. The important thing is that she had a lovely happy life with you. It’s sad you reached the end of the journey in the way you did, but the journey is what matters.

Venus. I’ve been thinking the same thing about how I’d be if I were still drinking in the way I did. I won’t say the temptation hasn’t been there, but I suspect it’s actually less stressful doing a sober lockdown.

bakingcupcakes · 01/04/2020 10:15

Mint I'm sorry about the loss of Ruby. It's hard to distract yourself at times like these. At least you know she had a good and happy life with you.

I've rediscovered my cross stitch kit along with Harry Potter. I've reread all the books the last couple of weeks. DS has enjoyed the first 2 and is pushing for the 3rd. We're waiting until his birthday to read that one together though. Last night I watched the 6th film and cross stitched.

We have to brave the shops tonight (not been since last Thursday so there's no fresh fruit or veg). I'm doing my parents shopping as well so my dad's going to meet me in the car park. DS will sit in my car and my dad will park next to it so he's kind of supervised while I do both lots of shopping. I won't be buying any more alcohol but I have ordered another cross stitch kit for when this ones finished.

Fairenuff · 02/04/2020 19:50

Ah @MintToBee I'm sorry to hear about your poor lovely dog. Well done for furious cleaning.

If you still feel up to it I'll be looking in on the quiz later. It starts at 8.15 tonight. Is anyone doing the Carers Clap (I think that's what it's called).
