This Is Why Instagram Makes Me Sick

Ok so I get it. Some people are better than others. Scrolling down certain profiles it is obvious that some have a very opulent lifestyles. Photographs of them exploring exotic locations Vegas, Bali and Dubai. Countless new bags, watches, shoes, trainers, vehicles and whatever cosmetic device. Photographs of their very good-looking, status-rich friends and their highly desirable significant other.

It's narcissism, no doubt. It is very much someone telling you "I am better than you" but on a mass level. If they can somehow convey that message to thousands of followers, they will do it.

This is where it gets sick. My issue with Instagram is the feet. There are countless photographs and videos where a person, somewhat bizarrely, seems determined to include their feet. It's usually their feet with some kind of magnificent backdrop, like a landmark, one of their whipped friends or I'm guessing a snapshot of their new boots they uploaded right after burning someone of their outer circle. I actually do not think this is the lustful foot fetish that seems to occupy 90% of the internet, I think it is narcissism, again. The person is saying they're better than you by including a photograph of the lowest part of their body. Where you belong, no doubt.

OKaaay! Lol, you just stuck something random and obtuse on here for the heck of it, and I replied, because I'm bored waiting for my pizza to arrive

GinLimeandLemonade · 25/08/2018 22:07

Wait, what? Confused

Thatsfuckingshit · 25/08/2018 22:08

Hhahhahahahahahaaaaa

SpectacularAardvark · 25/08/2018 22:08

Don't look at instagram then. It's easy, I live everyday in blissful ignorance of the shite that is on instagram.

Buffythevampireslayerr · 25/08/2018 22:09

ummm... Hmm

heartyrebel · 25/08/2018 22:09

Dont follow those types of people. It's all fake and advertising and lots of them buy half their followers.
As for the feet.. shrug

AtrociousCircumstance · 25/08/2018 22:09

That’s interesting, actually. But also maybe it’s ‘proof’ they are there and it’s not just any old image of some wondrous environment.

Just the most basic way of saying “Look at ME, HERE”.

Existential self-reassurance fattened up with gross lashings of narcissism.

wafflyversatile · 25/08/2018 22:12

Um. Ok. Maybe dont follow those people or switch off Instagram and its narcissistic feet.

FissionChips · 25/08/2018 22:12

Weirdo.

Magnussen · 25/08/2018 22:12

Don't be ridiculous!!

Did you miss the high profile instamum recently confessing her gorgeous Kensington home was in fact, social housing!!

Same with another one. Shared ownership.

They photograph the good bits of their lives. Which is what most people know

SleepingStandingUp · 25/08/2018 22:16

The feet but is like holiday photos, people Inc their as an I'm here. OK so it's an hahaha I'm here and you're not but it's not a oi shit, you're less than the crap on my feet

Shoobydooby09 · 25/08/2018 22:17

What ? Hmm.... I'm very tired but still what Confused ???

Cynara · 25/08/2018 22:21

Just step away from the tedious shite that is social media. In all its hideous forms.

Sacrilegious · 25/08/2018 22:22

Yeah and it's like a photograph of their legs and feet pointing towards a swimming pool while their laid out like the Queen of Sheba on a sun-lounger.

And it's like "So how's your Monday morning?" I mean...it's not even a hook to buy a franchise license to make what this person makes...but rather a basic cream-pie-to-the-face "I am better than you so there."

God op, your own self esteem is in your shoes! Get a grip fgs

Orange6904 · 25/08/2018 22:23

Redglitter · 25/08/2018 22:24

😂😂😂

CurlyhairedAssassin · 25/08/2018 22:26

Are you talking about foot shots at the end of a sunlonger with a fab view in the background? Toenails must be painted?

It’s just the next trend Along from the sausage thigh shot, surely? I don’t have a personal Instagram account, just one for work (“proper” job BTW, not fake Instagram”job”). So I don’t even come across that shite. I suggest you do the same if you’re frothing at the mouth.

Brendatheblender · 25/08/2018 22:26

WTF Hmm

BobbyBanana · 25/08/2018 22:26

You're so right OP.
Why is no-one else realising that this 'my foot is better than your foot' thing is now endemic. The teens will be alternately crowing and then cowering in footly shame.

I blame Jeremy Corbyn.

boredyboredy · 25/08/2018 22:27

Hmmm. I don't think I have ever noticed this at all....Maybe the algorithm thinks you have a foot fetish and just keeps presenting these pictures to you? Grin Or maybe they actually like their feet? What is wrong with feet any way?

Sacrilegious · 25/08/2018 22:30

I don't see a quote option so...

@BobbyBanana: why is it Jeremy Corbyn's fault?

goforthandmultiply · 25/08/2018 22:31

Its the 3 F's of Instagram. Food, Fame, Feet. It is all famous or wannabe famous people advertising themselves, people taking photos of food or the feet on a beach travellers. It's why I cba with even bothering.

FabulousTomatoes · 25/08/2018 22:32

Well I get you op. I hate feet, and one person I follow seems to like sticking pics of her pudgy Ibizan-tanned, Goan-tattooed, Bali-bejewelled tootsies up for us all to fawn over every now and then. Sometimes in a beach, sometimes in a hammock, sometimes by a pool. The excitement of it all kills me.

Whatsthisbear · 25/08/2018 22:33

Ummmmm I look at insta several times a day, I have never had feet posts come up. Do you realise that they know your interests based on the posts you click on so that your feed will be suitably filled with similar posts?
