This Is Why Instagram Makes Me Sick

Ok so I get it. Some people are better than others. Scrolling down certain profiles it is obvious that some have a very opulent lifestyles. Photographs of them exploring exotic locations Vegas, Bali and Dubai. Countless new bags, watches, shoes, trainers, vehicles and whatever cosmetic device. Photographs of their very good-looking, status-rich friends and their highly desirable significant other.

It's narcissism, no doubt. It is very much someone telling you "I am better than you" but on a mass level. If they can somehow convey that message to thousands of followers, they will do it.

This is where it gets sick. My issue with Instagram is the feet. There are countless photographs and videos where a person, somewhat bizarrely, seems determined to include their feet. It's usually their feet with some kind of magnificent backdrop, like a landmark, one of their whipped friends or I'm guessing a snapshot of their new boots they uploaded right after burning someone of their outer circle. I actually do not think this is the lustful foot fetish that seems to occupy 90% of the internet, I think it is narcissism, again. The person is saying they're better than you by including a photograph of the lowest part of their body. Where you belong, no doubt.

Maybe they just had their toes painted and won’t to get their money’s worth?

Seriously, everybody knows Instagram is make believe and a huge shop window. Ignore it.

ILoveDolly · 25/08/2018 22:34

Some people on instagram just share a lot of pictures of patchwork and cats. I follow them. Find your own tribe, or stay off it if it makes you sad.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 25/08/2018 22:35

I do look at dogs and interiors. No feet there, except dog paws, but that’s ok.

boredyboredy · 25/08/2018 22:38

ummm can I ask why this is posted in relationships? Not sure the relevance..... or is this actually a foot fetish thread?

Fwend · 25/08/2018 22:38

Maybe they post their feet because they've got a face like a baboon's arse?

stressedoutpa · 25/08/2018 22:40

Oh I love Instagram! Then again, I don't follow people who post pictures of handbags, diamond rings, exotic holidays or pictures of their feet. Confused

Don't look at it if it annoys you. It's not rocket science!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 25/08/2018 22:41

It’s in Relationships because feet come in pairs.

FabulousTomatoes · 25/08/2018 22:41

Sometimes though it’s a bit awks when RL friends post this kind of crap on insta. If they realise you have unfollowed them it doesn’t make for easy friendships. Trust me I wouldn’t want to see it out of choice. Unfortunately on insta there is no ‘unfollow but remain friends’ feature like there is on FB. I rarely go in either nowadays anyway - I much prefer to live in real life!

BitchQueen90 · 25/08/2018 22:44

Nobody can make you feel inferior without your permission.

I don't think that people who have more money are "better" than me. I see these sorts of posts sometimes but I couldn't care less. We all live different lives, owning Gucci bags doesn't interest me at all.

DearMrDilkington · 25/08/2018 22:45

This is where it gets sick. My issue with Instagram is the feet.

I have no idea why that made me laugh so much. Grin

What

This Is Why Instagram Makes Me Sick
NameChanger22 · 25/08/2018 22:48

I've just joined Instagram. I like the creative side of it. I like looking at beautiful photographs, paintings, people and I get inspiration from other people's creativity. I've posted a few of my best photographs and got a few hundred followers.

The only foot photos I've seen are the ones where a beautifully tiled floor is the main focus of the photo, it puts the floor in perspective and tells you it is a tiled floor.

I think you can make Instagram whatever you want it to be. Stop following foot fetish people if you don't like them.

BobbyBanana · 25/08/2018 22:51

Seriously Op. The problem is you, not Instagram.
I've never seen a foot on there, ever.
You choose who you follow, capeesh?

boredyboredy · 25/08/2018 22:52

@ChardonnaysPrettySister good point! Grin

boredyboredy · 25/08/2018 22:54

@marthaarthur Are those feet just married? (keeping with the relationships topic)

On a more serious note - are toe rings coming back? (maybe I should ask this in style....)

Namechanger1404 · 25/08/2018 22:55

its in relationships because feet come in pairs

This is bloody hilarious!

Trollop1 · 25/08/2018 22:57

Are you ok OP? Maybe you need a lie down?

Donthugmeimscared · 25/08/2018 22:57

The only foot picture I've seen on there is someone I know put a disgusting one of her toe with a gross bloody hole where the nail had been ripped off. It made me feel really sick it looked so sore and nasty. I don't like feet at the best of times.

dragonflyflew · 25/08/2018 22:57

I sometimes add in pics of my beautiful feet and my beautiful shoes.
They get a lots of compliments from all sexes
I take photos of things I like and hope others will like.
Regardless, this thread is bonkers.

Does anybody remember the trexing in the supermarket thread from years ago?
Had me in stitches. WAY better than this one

MarthaArthur · 25/08/2018 22:57

They are in the honeymoon phase thats why they look in love.

I bloody hope toe rings come back. Im going to invest in some to wear under my socks this winter.

Rebecca36 · 25/08/2018 23:02

I don't think I've ever looked at Instagram but it obviously brings out the green eyed monster in the op.

Dadaist · 25/08/2018 23:05

I think you’re almost right OP. But the motive is not to make others feel bad, or to look down on others. The centre of modern society is to inspire envy.
Some people have enviable qualities - attributes that belong to them - intelligence, insight, wisdom, kindness, humour, warmth, generosity, spirit, courage, conviction, dedication, devotion, ...love even.
Some people have none of these things - and seek to inspire envy through their possessions - what they have purchased rather than what truly belongs to them. And in our consumer driven society - others will envy wealth. But it is something that money really can buy - and is transient.
The feet? Well - it just demonstrates that they are alone - there is no one to take their picture, so they place themselves at the centre and your feet are always what you see of yourself when lying down.
Instagram is just all of our lives - refracted in the gap created by who we are, what we want and need, who we want others to see and who we might like to be.

chocolateworshipper · 25/08/2018 23:07

I blame Brexit.

I suggest getting your ducks in a row, LTB, call 101 and penguin bollards. Oh, and cancel the cheque (obviously).

Witchend · 25/08/2018 23:07

We had a doctor who had a phobia of feet. Dm said it was really funny, because you didn't book a specific one, you just turned up and saw the one who was free first. If it was a foot issue it always ended up being him.
He used to say "yuck. Yes I'll believe you." Grin

Magnussen · 25/08/2018 23:09

To be fair, plenty of my feed is shoe related....running shoes!
